Ahhhh today is Ysabele day!!! shes a really interesting character and im hyped to talk about her. I recommend this article (mentioned above) which discusses the proto-racist portrayal of India in the Roman van Walewein.
my reason for loving ysabele comes down to: she does actual literal murder and the text finds no problem with this. i think that is hilarious
this was written by me but with help from @pendraegon and @gringolet!!
i know its easy to think about what the ideal arthurian tv show/film would look like but for me in terms of paper media i actually think a comic series would work best to capture the meta storytelling themes that are almost required for modern arthuriana. im thinking, like– there’s a bit in Young Avengers Vol. 2 where the villain grabs the narrator’s speech bubble off the page and eats it. there’s another moment where a character hops into the space between comic panels, and another where someone rifles through different versions of themselves and picks the one they want to be. and its all visually represented using the conventions of the comic genre, twisted them and warping them and turning them on their head. loki: agent of asgard does this as well and also sandman overture– i think all these stories that have to do with perception and reputation and living traditions as meta work really well in a medium that is, in my mind, perhaps one of the most fluid and versatile storytelling venues in existence. also i think gawain should be able to read the narration boxes and lancelot should be able to travel between panels and guinevere should be able to rewrite other characters dialogue
I cannot believe you left out ‘maybe were not so different after oh wait we are jesus christ’

Oh! Also! Lest it get overshadowed by the transphobia-- it's time to bring up the fact that in wilder culture, being interested in king Arthur is a frequently a red flag for being a racist (not so much in teenagers, I'm talking about adults). Although online that is thankfully not the case anywhere near as much, we should not ignore racism in this fandom. Fans of colour have repeatedly criticized certain trends and elements of the literature and fandom, including but not certainly not limited to th White's influence, and been repeatedly talked over. They have done critical, interesting analysis of racism in medieval literature and been dismissed as starting discourse instead of doing great meta at an academic level. Theyve been harassed for character designs (dont have receipts on that one but multiple ppl have told me about it). And if you think this fandom is safe from white nationalists, ppl have gotten anons accusing them of ruining arthuriana as a symbol of "western society," as well as repeated dismissals of colonialism and the existence of racism in med lit. If, like me, you're white, then please be aware of the white nationalist associations of the genre and listen to fans and creators of colour within it!!! They are not "starting discourse," they are making incredible content and doing really awesome analysis and deserve to be heard and anyone who doesnt like it can fuck right off
One of SO MANY moments in last night’s episode that warmed my heart. I just had to capture it.
Morgan le Fay and Sebile the enchantress, the best most almost slightly kind of canonical girlfriends from the Arthurian mythos!
