Hi my name is Harrow'hark Nonagesimus and I have 200 souls trapped in me and short choppy black hair that grows too fast ever since my DIY lobotomy and black eyes like the rest of the Ninth and a lot of people tell me I look like Anastasia (AN: if u don't know who she is get da hell out of here!). I'm not related to the girl in the tomb but I wish I was because she's a major fucking hottie. I'm a space Kiwi but my teeth are straight and white. I have skin that's only described as somewhat lighter than Gideon's and is always covered in greasepaint. I'm also a necromancer, and I live in a castle called Drearburh on Pluto where I'm the Reverend Daughter (I'm seventeen). I'm a goth (in case you couldn't tell) and I wear mostly black. I love the Ninth's dress code and I always adhere to it. For example today I was wearing a ribcage corset, a black shirt, black pants, black boots, and a black cloak. I was wearing skull facepaint, specifically The Chain. I was walking outside Drearburh. It’s on Pluto so there was hardly any sun, which I was very happy about. Gideon Nav stared at me. I put up my middle finger at her.

Listen. The Picture of Dorian Gray should not be hard to adapt. Drag Ben Whishaw or Nick Hoult or somebody out of the opium dens to play Lord Henry, it's not as if we're strapped for gorgeous dissolute twinks. Kidnap 20-year-old Heath Ledger from the year 1999 to play Dorian. Summon the ghost of Pier Paolo Pasolini from Hell and tell him that if he doesn't direct another indescribably awful gay arthouse pornohorror, the fascists will win. And - this is crucial - make it gay, but in the worst way possible. I want it to set the discourse back 15 years. People should walk out of the theater asking if gay marriage should be legal.
It simply is not that difficult.
get yourself a main character whos two primary emotions are "little cunt" and "catatonic with grief"
I think this is the first time as an adult I've made fanart for a book. So like- you know it's gotta be good.
Pretty please go read angels before man by @nicosraf ! It's absolutely gorgeous and got me down so bad for the idea of ftm Lucifer; also lots of plant symbolism 💖

The thing that really gets me about the start of Nona the Ninth is how - even though she didn’t end up being either one of them - Cam, Pal, and Pyrrha couldn’t figure out whether she was Harrow or Gideon because they knew how absolutely fucked up their childhoods must of been.
They knew that if they took away all of the horrible things that Gideon and Harrow went through they would be almost unrecognizable as people - how much of their personalities were shaped by what they were trained to do, or how they resented their training. Making them wonder that maybe if things were different Harrow or Gideon could have been the happy and loving little girl Nona is.
Could you imagine having the chance to reparent your friend, giving them the things you think they deserve, that they never got, and realizing they are nothing like the friend you knew?
And then realizing that either way, this must be better.
'The chain of a kiss'
Ok, but the amount of trouble shooting I had to do for this fuckery was hilarious!
First I highlighted every "Griddle" I could find. (I even found more after my initial skim, through editing).
I downloaded the Audiobook, (a purchased version ofc)
Then I had to find a program to convert the Audiobook from AAX to MP4 then find a program that downloaded the audiobook into the program to convert the audio from AAX to MP4
Then I tried to upload it to my audio editing program, and had to download *another* program to export my MP4 to MP3.
Then I had to cut down a 9 HOUR AUDIO CHUNK TO ONE MINUTE OF "GRIDDLES" BECAUSE THE AUDIOBOOK DIDN'T COME IN CHAPTERS, IT JUST CAME AS ONE HUGE AUDIO CLIP OF THE FIRST HALF OF THE BOOK, AND THE SECOND HALF.
Then I made sure to adjust my clips so they fell on beat, and Voila!
There are more "Griddle"s after the first time she calls her Gideon, but I thought it more suitable to stop there.
I have more edits in mind. More to come.
“every portrait that is painted with feeling is a portrait of the artist, not of the sitter. the sitter is merely the accident, the occasion. it is not he who is revealed by the painter; it is rather the painter who, on the colored canvas, reveals himself.”
