As Ron stared out of a window of the Hogwarts Express he sensed his hand trembling. That often happened when he thought about Moody’s words. He wasn’t scared, he knew that wasn’t the problem. No, the real problem was that he was quite the opposite from scared, he was excited, abnormally so. There was a fire that raged inside him, not a physical one. The physical fire hadn’t made an appearance since his incident in the bathroom.
‘Bad phrasing,’ thought Ron.
Jokes and puns aside, Ron couldn’t help it. It was a new sort of feeling, similar to the nervousness before a Quidditch match, all with the nausea, the sweating, the fidgeting, except the exact opposite. He didn’t feel like vomiting because he was afraid, but because he was completely unable to think about anything else. That must have been the reason, because otherwise, it would mean that he was… That he felt…
No, he’d rather think about the excitement of it all. Whatever was happening Ron thought Gryffindor knew what was going on, after all he had sent a Patronus just moments after his first… Whatever the hell was happening to him. It couldn’t be a simple coincidence.
Ron’s dreams were also falling towards the weirder side. More often than not he dreamt of the same cave, with the silver shaft that stuck out of the ground and always managed to allure Ron enough for him to walk into the fiery trap. However, to his relief not every night was similar, some nights he would dream of a certain someone. They would be holding their hands, fingers intertwined with one another. They’d stared at each other in the eye before Ron would lean in and his lips would find hers.
Ever since Hermione’s second kiss he had become far more, infatuated with his bookworm best friend. He found himself staring at her far more than he used to, observing and admiring her curls as she read a book. Her nose scrunching as she put all of her focus on a book of hers, every fiber in Ron’s being wanted to walk over to her and kiss her on the tip of her nose. She would smile, and although she had gotten rid of her fairly large front teeth Ron could sometimes imagine her laughing with them, it gave her a sort of childish look so different from the nagging and bossy girl he had come to know for years now.
When they were on the Knight Bus on their way to Hogsmeade Ron took the chance to open some of his mail. During the holidays he had gotten a few more letters than he usually got, most probably because of his status as Champion of Gryffindor. He opened some of them up. He got some chocolates from Dean and Seamus, gillyweed gum from Neville which apparently gave webbed hands as well as some other sweets from Cedric and Angelina Johnson. He finally got to a letter from Luna which he read over quickly. Half of it was about the usual weird, strange and probably imaginary creatures that she and her barmy father believed in, however when he got to the last part he almost choked on his chocolate. Harry noticed and Ron simply pointed to the part that had interested him so much. He saw as his speckled best friend’s eyes seemed to almost pop out of the frames of his glasses and his eyebrows shot up his fringe.
As he walked into the castle accompanied by Harry, Hermione and his family he couldn’t help, but notice how people kept staring at them. Particularly he and his siblings. The day he arrived he didn’t Gryffindor anywhere, he seemed to have left the school and nobody knew.
The next day he took Hermione aside towards the common room when he saw Cho Chang speak with Harry after a double-Potions lesson. She looked at him weirdly, but he only smirked when he saw her confusion. Once they were inside their common room Ron sat Hermione down, she seemed to catch on to what Ron was trying to do.

A few days back on AO3 I found an unfinished, two chapter spideypool fanfic that was cute and had lots of potential and was also last updated two years ago. Two whole years! And it had only three comments, all of which on chapter one, none on chapter two. I enjoyed the fanfic, despite it being far, FAR from being finished and the chance of it ever updating again anytime soon was just about zero. So you know what I did?
I wrote a damn comment. On chapter two.
And I made sure that fucker was long and had a small theory of where I think the author would take the fanfic in the future. I let the person behind the fic know that I friggin LOVED the two chapters I got to read! That I would LOVE to see more! That I’d jump out of my skin in happiness and virtually hug them half to death if I saw that they updated it.
Let me remind you this fic wasn’t updated in two YEARS! I was the first to comment on it in a year. And the first to comment on chapter two! And you know what happened today?
I got a reply.
From the author of the fanfic. And the author said how I gave them life for a project they had loved (still did) and that they were now working on a third chapter. After two YEARS of not updating. Of not writing. And it makes me so friggin happy seeing what I did. What I caused.
With a single. Damn. Comment.
All that it took for me was to think a bit about what I wanted to tell the author and the comment it. All it took was one comment. And suddenly this person was inspired to continue a fanfic they had abandoned for TWO YEARS!!
I couldn’t be happier. I couldn’t be more proud.
Comment on people’s fanfics. No matter how few chapters there are. No matter how many years have passed since their last update. Comment. You like a fanfic? Comment on it. It’s that easy.
Just a mere three days after the random medical examination, Ron felt himself becoming less anxious. It was the first day of June, and even though Ron was still preparing for his O.W.L.s, the Tournament, and making sure to keep his prefect duties up to the standard, his friends seemed to lighten the weight on his shoulders. As he ate breakfast alongside Harry, and Ginny the founders stood up to give the Great Hall an announcement.
“Everyone,” Hufflepuff said excitedly. “We have an announcement to make. One we are sure you will like.”
“Some of them,” Slytherin mumbled so only Gryffindor heard, the red-headed wizard stifled a small laugh.
“In anticipation of the Tournament we have prepared the Hogwarts Ball for all of you!” Hufflepuff announced. “A special opportunity for all of the houses to socialise and connect further, and for your Champions to enjoy a moment of rest as the Tournament quickly approaches every day. Students from all houses Year 4 and forth, will be able to attend. As well, any Year 3 students who are personally invited by a student attending the ball.”
The hall was mixed with different reactions. Some fourth years who had been unable to go to the Yule Ball looked excited, like Colin Creevey who jumped in his seat looking around perhaps for a possible date. Others looked simply happy for the opportunity, Cedric was smiling at Tamsin Applebee who seemed to blush. Others looked worried, perhaps for what they were going to wear, who they were going to take, or how they were going to look by the time of the event. Neville was one of them as he looked desperately at Ginny, his date for the Yule Ball last year, who instead chatted with Katie Bell excitedly.
“The Ball shall take place the 14th of June,” Ravenclaw announced. “Five days before the Hogwarts Tournament, so be prepared. Champions should also be aware they are to entertain their fellow students and the faculty members with a show of their magic.”
Ron, and Daphne groaned, Cedric looked thoughtful, and Luna looked excited.
“You are more than allowed to owl your families for your dress robes, or in the case that you have not bought them Lady Hufflepuff and myself will attend to your needs.” Slytherin explained. “However, remember we are teachers. Not your personal tailors.”
“Good luck to you all,” Gryffindor called. “More than anything, the gentlemen.”
He and Slytherin proceeded to laugh, with Ravenclaw admonishing her husband.
Ron had already decided on going back to his dorm to take a well deserved nap with some dreamless potion, but as he finished his breakfast and walked back to his dorm, his mind was plagued by insecurity.
‘A ball,’ Ron thought desperately. ‘Why did it have to be a ball? Why couldn’t it be another demonstration match? I could handle one of those. Asking out a girl? No way, that is out of the question. Maybe Harry could ask someone for me again? Oh that’s pathetic, Weasley’
His mind raced with memories from last year. His fight with Hermione, and the subsequent awkwardness after the event. He thanked Merlin for the fact that his girl best friend was in the library at the time of the announcement.
‘I mean,’ his mind continued. ‘She did tell me that I should invite her the next time there was a ball.’
‘Don’t be an idiot,’ another voice told him. ‘Why in the bloody hell would she want to go with you?’
Maybe, he was getting his hopes up. He sighed as he arrived at the Gryffindor Common Room, he picked up a nearby magazine and began reading it out of boredom. He absentmindedly flipped each page, as he felt himself being watched. He turned his head curiously around the Gryffindor Common Room, for some reason feeling as if the person staring at him had just vanished. He went back to the magazine, before leaving it aside, missing as a blonde head of hair rushed back up the stairs to the girl’s dorm.

For me both are alright. Some of the first fanfics I read had it as Hermione Weasley so I was a bit surprised when I found out it was Granger-Weasley canonically. So for me it could go either way, she choosing to keep her name or taking Ron's.
Although what I do think is that if she does hyphenate her name, she explicitly always corrects people when they call her only one of the names.
So if someone where to call her "Mrs. Weasley" or "Mrs. Granger" she'd correct them with Granger-Weasley
After Ron and Hermione get married, y'all prefer Hermione Granger or Hermione Weasley?
Great Work! A scene that when I first read broke me in more than one way!
Hey silver doe anon…
Its funny cause since I started this in like, February, you can see my drawing style shift a bit, lol.
Oh boy, did I feel sad drawing the end :,D
Also, yes, I know, I still need to work on backgrounds.
Winter Romione🥰
Ron was nervous. How could he not be? Tonight was the Ball. In just a few minutes he would have to go down and dance in front of almost all of Hogwarts. It felt like the Yule Ball all over again, but a bit better. This time there were no ugly maroon robes, but instead deep burgundy velvet dress robes with golden lining. They looked good, far better than what he had last year. The design was immaculate with a sleek golden lion shoulder pad on top of one of his arms which held his blonde fur cape.
The robes had been a gift from Master Gryffindor that he had forcefully accepted. He almost rejected them, until he told him he was going to throw him in the middle of the Great Hall naked if he did not accept them. He was sure his Master was only joking. But not so sure as to find out.
His hair was managed as well, although he most likely still needed to cut it. Thankfully, Daphne had been nice enough to have given him some hair products to use.
The Ball was any minute now. Ron descended down the stairs. Harry, Ginny, Neville and Dean were sitting on the couch waiting. Ginny and Dean were going together, and although Ron found the pairing weird he was sure it was quite harmless. Neville had been a surprise, Luna had decided to invite his blonde dorm mate, and the poor bloke had been clearly relieved of his constant search for a date. Harry was another story, he had also managed to put his date to the Ball till the last minute one more time. And now he was as stuck as one could get with a date he had no interest with.
“You look good for a change,” Ginny teased.
“Shut up,” Ron responded. He cleared his throat, before asking Ginny the question he wanted to ask. “Is… Is she…?”
“She’ll be down any minute now,” she said with a smile.
“I hope so,” he nervously checked his dress robes. “Do I look good?”
“You look great mate,” Dean said, most likely trying to assure him. Ron looked to Harry for confirmation who nodded his head.
Then, Ron heard it. The subtle set of steps he had walked with for 5 years. He turned to look before anyone else. There she was. Hermione Granger. Her brown hair was up in a bun on her head, with some strands of hair falling down and reaching her neck essentially framing her beautiful face. She was not wearing the periwinkle dress she had worn last year, instead she wore a champagne-coloured dress adorned with red lining and an intricate red pattern at the bottom that matched his own dress robes. She looked even more beautiful than last year, perhaps she had grown or maybe it was because she had chosen him.
Her cheeks were a bit pink, although Ron did not know if it was because of her make-up or another reason. Although she was wearing some short heels, he was still nearly a head taller than her.
“Hi,” he said with a smile on his face.
“Hi,” she almost whispered, as if they had a secret. The two remained in silence only staring at each other, when Harry cleared his throat.

So I'm a big fan of Ron. He has been my favorite characters since forever and is my second favorite fictional character of all time. As such I've always like Ron-centric content. Fanfics, fanarts, little headcannons, all of which make me fall more and more in love with the character.
And I came across an answer in Quora that perfectly described Ron and Draco as opposites. Two sides of the same coin. I already thought so as well as I always saw Draco and Ron as the two first kids Harry met at his age, both of which to him seemed completely different while still remaining somewhat similar in certain aspects.
Both Ron and Draco come from ancient Pureblood families that have a long history in the Wizarding World
Both grew up with their fathers' opinion on muggles, muggle-borns and half-bloods influencing them
Both grew up in households that showed them unwavering love
Both made an impression that lasted on Harry
Both held care and loyalty for their families and close friends (Ron with Harry and Hermione; Draco with Crabbe and Goyle: This is even more evident in the Deathly Hallows were Draco seems legitimately saddened by Crabbe's death)
But it was the differences that made Harry choose Ron as his best friend and Draco as his school nemesis:
Draco was rich in wealth but poor in values; Ron was poor in wealth but rich in values
Ron was nice, humble, brave and loyal; Draco was rude, vain, cowardly and always looked out for himself mostly
Draco was an only child so Lucius and Narcissa spoiled him rotten with gifts, attention and love; Ron had a lot of brothers, and as such had to (from his perspective) compete for that same attention and love
Draco was a bully; Ron was a friend
All of these reasons as well as others led me to question, just why Draco was Harry's nemesis and then I remembered that Harry's nemesis was Voldemort. Not Draco.
And I think it was a missed opportunity to have made Harry the one to suspect Malfoy and not Ron. Now this may or may not come from the fact that I mostly hate a lot of HBP, but I also have a lot of reasons behind it.
While Harry has never liked Malfoy him immediately thinking that Voldemort recruited him to be a Death Eater was never really believable for me. We even see in OoTP that Harry doesn't really consider Malfoy a threat. After Lucius is arrested and Draco threatens Harry, he only sees this as laughable not something to be scared of.
So him changing his perspective to a 180 in HBP never seemed logical to me. Ron, however, I would completely see thinking that Malfoy was a Death Eater.
From the start while Malfoy had always teased and bullied Harry, Ron and Hermione as well as others like Neville, Luna or others his attempts to bully Harry and Ron were where he "shined". The Potter Stinks badges, buying the Slytherin Quidditch team and becoming Seeker just to spite Harry as well as the Weasley is Our King song, making fun of his dress robes, etc...
However, the type of personalities that both Harry and Ron have are vastly different. Harry doesn't mind these attempts at annoying him as he sees Malfoy as pathetic, but the thing with Ron is that he is much more self conscious than Harry.
Malfoy got the entire school to actually sing a song about Ron's poor skills at Quidditch which only increased his nervousness making him fail. Not only that, but in the books Malfoy made badges that said Weasley is our King as well.
So we have this boy who has made fun of Ron year after year, his financial status, his family, his friends, himself and now he's doing something incredibly suspicious just months after his father threatened Ron's sister with death in the Department of Mysteries. And he is suspicious of him, but he's two best friends just take Ron's suspiciousness as his natural inclination not to trust Slytherins, specifically Draco Malfoy.
And with that I present to you a very small piece of fanfiction inspired by an AU where Ron suspected Malfoy:
Harry and Hermione didn't seem to understand, or it was more like they didn't want to understand. It was as if his voice didn't matter, as if years of loyalty towards the two didn't matter for one bit, like Ron Weasley could only say something stupid and inappropriate if he ever opened his mouth.
But he wasn't stupid, he knew that. He got more than the average student in O.W.L.s, he beat McGonagall's chess set, he help figure out where the opening to the Chamber of Secrets was, he knew that Malfoy was a Death Eater from the beginning.
That last one still left a bitter taste in Ron's mouth. He had been telling Harry and Hermione for months that Draco Malfoy had taken the Dark Mark and was doing Death Eater activities for You-Know-Who in Hogwarts, but they just wouldn't listen.
Just like Hermione didn't listen whenever he told her that house-elves didn't want to be free, or how Lockhart was clearly a fraud, or just like Harry didn't seem to actually listen to him when he told him that he didn't like hearing You-Know-Who's name. It was as simple as that, but unless Ron Weasley had food in his mouth they wouldn't pay him one single fraction of attention.
They didn't know Malfoy like he did, they wouldn't know the lengths that the bloody ferret would go to just to be daddy's perfect little Death Eater, the lengths he would go to spoil everything.
Because they just didn't. They couldn't know the humiliation of being the school's punching bag for months. They couldn't understand how unfair it was that a family like the Malfoys was more respected than his just because they had more money. They couldn't understand how Malfoy's father had a part in the fine that his father had to pay after Harry and he had to go in the car to Hogwarts.
And Ron had been fine with that, he had been understandable about it, but now he knew the truth. They didn't care.
Because as he sat in his bed listening to Harry and Hermione come up with another bloody thing that they had to get in the stupid hunt of theirs in woods that froze his bollocks off with little to no food, he finally understood. Ginny, his own little sister, who was trapped in a castle with Snape and other dark wizards, had been sent to the Forbidden Forest where she could die.
In fact all of his family could be dead, and he would be none the wiser.
They didn't care.
So he stood up and clicked the Deluminator leaving them all in the darkness. They could feel as he felt about his family's situation. They could hear their own heartbeats as he did whenever he laid down in bed scared about waking up and finding out that he was the last member of his family left alive.
Someone called his name, but Ron could only hear the voice. Silky, smooth, seductive and speaking its every thought into his mind.
They don't care. They seemed to have forgotten about you, about your family, about anything but themselves.
He clicked the Deluminator once more and stared into the green and brown eyes of Harry and Hermione.
"Remember me, have you?"
my sweetie Hermione at Slughorn’s party
A few days ago the official Harry Potter Film Instagram page posted a montage. It had 3 scenes of 3 different ships. James/Lily, Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny asked 'what's your favourite ship?'
The amount of people who said Ron/Hermione just warmed my heart. I think 60-70% people picked Ron/Hermione.
Even the movie watchers know which is the superior ship. Imagine if they portrayed Ron/Hermione correctly on screen what could have happened...... 😢
The four Champions had been called to the stadium. Ron was just finishing the last of his Herbology assignment, his fingers dirty with small ink spots. His hair was bothering him as it stuck to the back of his neck, perhaps he needed a haircut, but he thought about his mother ranting about Bill's hair and put the idea aside almost immediately. As he entered his private room, he left his things in front of the fireplace, taking a bite of a chocolate biscuit he had left a day or two ago by the sofa.
He entered the stadium to find that the other Champions along with their founders were already there. As he munched on his chocolate biscuit he tried very hard not to feel like the odd one out. Cedric had his hammer holstered on his side, Daphne wore her silver rings and Luna had her bow on her back. Ron very silently went back to his room and took his sword.
Sitting down and waiting for his Master, Ron took a second biscuit from that day’s lunch and ate it in one bite. As he swallowed a loud bang came from behind him, making him choke on the sweet pastry.
“Very well,” Gryffindor hollered cheerily. “Wait, what are you all doing here so early?” He asked.
“We’ve been here for 45 minutes, Lord Gryffindor,” said Slytherin, who at that point had been conjuring water snakes with his wand. “You’re the one who's late.”
“My apologies then,” said Gryffindor, a smile still on his face despite inconveniencing everyone.
“Why did you summon us all here, Madame?” Cedric asked Hufflepuff.
“Well,” she said, in an uncertain tone of voice. “It has come to our attention that perhaps trying to get all of you to train together might lead you to a… closer interhouse-relationship.”
“We’re worried that you might end up killing each other if you don’t get along,” Gryffindor said in a bit of an annoyed tone.
“Godric!” The other three scolded, only making him scoff as if to dare anyone to prove him wrong. Slytherin rolled his eyes and looked at Luna.
“Come on now, we’ll start with you Ms. Lovegood,” said Slytherin. “You and Lady Ravenclaw shall show us exactly what you’ve been doing during your training sessions.”
Luna nodded, and took out her bow. Ravenclaw for her part summoned a cage filled with small flying lights with wings; they looked like blue glowing snitches that flew around the cage.
“Ms. Lovegood,” said Ravenclaw in a clear voice. “Are you ready?”
“Yes, madame,” said Luna. Ravenclaw waved her wand at Luna.
“Caesio,” a piece of black cloth wrapped around Luna's eyes. She waved her wand once more at the cage, and the flying lights began to soar around the stadium like dozens of snitches trying to get away from a seeker. “Begin.”
Luna pulled the string of the bow and simply aimed at the side, the spell that was in the shape of an arrow shined brightly, Luna kept the string incredibly tight, when the light of it suddenly shined even brighter in a quick flash.
“Stupefy,” she casted and three spells shot out of her bow and hit three of the lights, vanishing them and making the other lights flying around the stadium at an even faster rate. Luna began to look around, aiming her bow at a seemingly random place before hitting at least one, sometimes two. About a handful of them charged at her, and she simply jumped into the air, before stepping on air like she had done at the Match and hitting the last of them.
Ron clapped for her, and was surprised when he was the only one to. He looked at Daphne Greengrass, it checked out why she hadn’t clapped, but Cedric was looking at something in the air, paying almost no attention to Luna. His eyes moved from one side of the room to the other, and then Luna was hit on the side of her body.
“Ouch!” Luna shrieked. She put her bow on her back and took out her wand hitting the last of the little flying lights. Taking off her blind, she had a look of almost annoyance, like when Hermione had insulted the Quibbler in their first meeting.
“It’s fine, Ms Lovegood,” said Ravenclaw. “Good job. You make your house proud,” Luna still seemed upset, but Ravenclaw’s words seemed to brighten her mood slightly.
“Very well,” said Hufflepuff. “How about you go next, Cedric?”
