I mean, I'm not super clear on what Reagan did. 'What pillars' he was disassembling. I'm not from the States and the precise details of Reagan era politics just sorta fell through the cracks for me. However, this video does help put some of what is going on between the older and younger generations into focus. I was born in 1991. The Berlin Wall had just come down recently, and the Soviet Union had collapsed, but I was far too young to understand the politics of it all, and by the time I WAS old enough to understand some of these things the NATO nations were neck deep in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars and my attention was largely on that. I get that the pillars that are holding up the world are trembling, and can see that something is deeply...sick in basically every government of every type around the world. Some of it seems like institutionalized corruption that's been there in one form or another for a long time, and some feels...newer. I often find myself wondering, was the world always this broken? Can we fix it before it comes crashing down around us? We all exist in the context of what we grew up with and what we're trying to pass along to the next generation. Ironically, in the information age: communicating between the generations and each person individual finding the information needed to make a good decision is tougher than ever. Misinformation, propaganda and just flat out incorrect information is rampant. And I often wonder, do any of us really know what needs to happen to fix everything? And can we do it without causing the whole thing to come down on our heads.

I mean, we knew, but it's nice to hear so succinctly

reblog if fanfic writing has been a source of happiness for you and has helped with your mental health

Fictional Con Artists are often modern day Robin Hood types. Take from the rich, give to the poor. Blah Blah Blah Real Life Con Artists are probably something like 99.99% predatory. And like all predators, they're constantly weighing up the risks versus the rewards. A cheetah (who has more redeeming qualities than a con artist) will weigh up whether expending that precious energy and risking the gazelles horns are worth the risk of the attempt. To feed themselves and their young. Sometimes they win, sometimes they lose. Real Life Con Artists might tell themselves they do it for the same reasons but they do not. Not really. There are millions of ways to make a living. Not all of them are good admittedly, but Con 'Artists' chose and continue to choose to make money by victimizing fellow human beings. And like a predator they prefer prey that can't fight back or who can be taken enough by surprise that they themselves risk nothing. In animals, it's the law of the wild. It can be forgiven. They do what they must as a (near?) obligate carnivore to survive. In humans? It runs the gamut between them being rank snivelling little cowards, and the sort of hard and cynical selfish sociopathy that can justify doing anything to get ahead. The later kind probably like to mutter things like 'there's a sucker born every minute'. There's LOTs of types of human predators, as we should all be bitterly aware. This breed of predator is just the opportunistic little cartoonish self serving jackal type of predator who lust for wealth rather than other worse things like power or sex. I could say more, but frankly I'd just be retreading the same ground and someone else can probably say it better and more clearly. I will leave a single further note. I'm probably maligning Jackals and actual predator species, by in any way equating them with Con Artists. My apologies to real Jackals.

"con artist" is maybe the profession with the biggest gap between How Cool They Are In Media and How Cool They Are In Real Life

Reblog if you’re 30 or older

This is an experiment to see if there really are as few of us as people think. You can also use this to freak out your followers who think you’re 25 or something. Yay!

An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works

Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: Fallout (TV 2024), Fallout: New Vegas Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: past Rose MacLean/Hank MacLean Characters: Hank MacLean, Female Courier (Fallout: New Vegas) Additional Tags: Fix-It, NCR | New California Republic, disaster averted, Bigotry & Prejudice, Delusions, Hank's not as smart as he thinks he is Summary:

Hank's wife didn't understand, or didn't want to understand what was at stake. Worse she'd stolen his children chasing a fantasy. Endangering. Well, nothing will stand between him and his mission. Certainly not his ex-wife. And certainly not the NCR of Shady Sands.

Or so he thinks. I wrote this. After a night of panic attacks, little sleep and being messed up on Ativan. Nevertheless, I am pleased with it. :)

if you don't do anything else today,

Please have a moment of silence for the people who were killed instead of freed when news of emancipation finally reached the furthest corners of the american south.

have another moment for the ledgers, catalogs, and records that were burned and the homes that were destroyed to hide the presence of very much alive and still enslaved people on dozens of plantations and homesteads across the south for decades after emancipation.

and have a third moment for those who were hunted and killed while fleeing the south to find safety across the border, overseas, in the north and to the west.

black people. light a candle, write a note to those who have passed telling them what you have achieved in spite of the racist and intolerant conditions of this world, feel the warmth of the flame under your hand, say a prayer of rememberance if you are religious, place the note under the candle, and then blow it out.

if you have children, sit them down and tell them anything you know about the life of oldest black person you've ever met. it doesn't have to be your own family. tell them what you know about what life was like for us in the days, years, decades after emancipation. if you don't know much, look it up and learn about it together.

This is Juneteenth.

white people CAN interact with this post. share it, spread it.

What to do if you suddenly find yourself homeless

FOOD

Find your nearest food bank or mission, for food

grocery stores with free samples, bakeries + stores with day-old bread

different fast food outlets have cheaper food and will generally let you hang out for a while.

some dollar stores carry food like cans of beans or fruit

SHELTER

Sleeping at beaches during the day is a good way to avoid suspicion and harassment

sleep with your bag strapped to you, so someone can’t steal it

Some churches offer short term residence

Find your nearest homeless shelter

Look for places that are open to the public

A large dumpster near a wall can often be moved so that flipping up the lids creates an angled shelter to stay dry

HYGIENE

A membership to the YMCA is usually only 10$, which has a shower, and sometimes laundry machines and lockers.

Public libraries have bathrooms you can use

Dollar stores carry low-end soaps and deodorant etc.

Wet wipes are all purpose and a life saver

Local beaches, go for a quick swim

Some truck stops have showers you can pay for

Staying clean is the best way to prevent disease, and potentially get a job to get back on your feet

Pack 7 pairs of socks/undies, 2 outfits, and one hooded rain jacket

OTHER

first aid kit

 sunscreen

a travel alarm clock or watch

 mylar emergency blanket

 a backpack is a must

downgrade your cellphone to a pay as you go with top-up cards

 sleeping bag

travel kit of toothbrush, hair brush/comb, mirror

 swiss army knife

 can opener

This is amazing advice. It's hard to talk about. Especially if your struggle against mental illness has been going on for a long time.

I always hate it when people are all “so do you go to school, or are you working, or” and I either have to

make up some lie, or

eventually get around to “I am not working because of depression/anxiety,” and subsequently have to deal with whatever bullshit-riddled and completely unsolicited opinions on mental illness this stranger feels obligated to share with me.

So my therapist was like, “You don’t have to do either. You can just say you haven’t worked in a while because you’re recovering from an illness.”

I tried it when the home inspector was here today, and it fucking worked. He was like, “oh, I’m sorry, are you doing better now,” and I’m like yeah, and don’t worry, it’s not contagious, awkward laugh, and we moved on.

MY THERAPIST. IS A GENIUS. Because it is an illness, so it’s not a lie to say that, and it’s also none of his business to know specifically what it is, and I clearly don’t want to give more details, so we should move on from this topic. MY THERAPIST IS A GODDAMN GENIUS.

There was an article I read a while back, by a reporter who was travelling abroad. (Sorry I can't find it right now). And wherever he went, he liked to run each morning. Well, this time, he was in...Kenya? Or maybe it was Tanzania. (I just remember it was that section of Africa's east coast.) He went on a run, and all was good as he followed a trail along the outskirts of the city he was in. And then the brush around him started 'cackling'. He stopped, and immediately made best speed back into the city. He was being hunted and he knew it. Returning to the city he was safe. But he described how unnerving it was to realize that he was actively being surrounded by Hyenas and hadn't noticed.

I wanna pet a hyena so bad but that would not end well for anyone.
