After spending what feels like a lifetime in my VtM echo chamber, looking at the other vampire media almost feels like blasphemy. You feel lost and confused like a mole crawling out into the sun (pun intended) for the first time. What do you mean, the concept of the Masquerade isn't even present most of the time? What do you mean, you don't have to wait patiently for about 20-30 years and then ask your local authorities permission to Embrace somebody?? Wait, there are no limits to siring??! And the sun might not even kill you??!?!
I don't know if somebody already talked about it, but I also don't remember finding this type of theory surrounding the inspiration origins of Crème Republic (because ofc the wiki had to make everything about the States again-)
We more or less know the inspiration for all the Ancient's kingdoms – some with distinctive cultures, some (like Faerie Kingdom) are mostly folklore. But the consensus of Crème Republic is that it's mostly something Greek or Roman that's being occupied by French for some reason.
Well, I think there is a reason for them being specifically French in a Greek-based place, because that's exactly what it is. Let me introduce you to the Latin Empire.
So, long story short: that'd explain their mostly French names and the understandable dissatisfaction of the native Cookies' of the Sea of them taking up the majority of the Council seats. Their cartoonish goodness and glory doesn't exactly match with the history (especially with the fact that in crk Vanillians are war refugees instead of, y'know, crusaders. and thank god) – but eh well, Constantinople (now Istanbul) was an ancient city with a rich history and culture even back then, and even more so now. Devsis kinda had to get rid of the monarchy in favour of more Roman-style government, but that's for the better ig?
It's still my favourite Kingdom in crk because I just love the whole warm vibes of it and it has all my favourite cookies in there, but it's interesting how people may have overlooked this obvious reference to the concept of Francocracy lol
I've been saying this for years
toreador haters are simply unable to see the potential in beautiful sickos
This scene is literally
I'm gonna throw this theory out here and see how it lives through the upcoming crk updates
I already speculated that each of the Beasts are representing different type of dread: Mystic Flour, for instance, is as creepy as the wraith from the old abandoned castle (or temple) can be – she is someone you're afraid to meet alone in the dark, out of anyone's reach. Burning Spice, on the other hand, is terrifying as the foe on the battlefield can be – someone clearly too powerful for you to stand a chance against, and someone who can and will bring you the long and painful destruction. Now, two other Beasts we haven't met yet, but I imagine they can represent something similar. Since Eternal Sugar represents sloth, I think, their type of fear would be fear to once discover yourself in their situation – bored and tired of life, having nothing to amuse yourself with anymore and dragging everyone around you with yourself. Silent Salt might be similar, but not completely: I imagine, they would represent fear of becoming like them, isolated and completely devoid of any human interaction in one's life, possibly even viewing connections and friendships as lower and inferior to their grandiose self.
Finally, Shadow Milk, whom we've met first and who isn't particularly scary at the first sight – silly and goofy, rather, but not terrifying – I think can represent fear of being someone you're afraid your loved ones could turn into. Giving how he's already betrayed Elder Faerie and stuff akhem-
But that's just my take, I don't know if it turns out to be correct in the end.
Maybe it's a weird take but Shadow Milk Cookie and Elder Faerie Cookie OBVIOUSLY look like a divorced couple because they interacted like one
I really don't know what happened between them, but for someone as wise and reserved as Elder Faerie to repeat in almost every line something like «no, don't listen to him» or «no, shut your mouth, no, no, stop talking» seemed really strange to me and then I realized this lmao.
My friends cringed so bad at what I'm about to say, and idk if anybody said it before, but please, hear me out:
Madeleine and Espresso look like Achilles and Patroclus, I'm sorry-
It's always "World of darkness isn't supposed to be happy" this and "vampires are monsters" that. Wrong. Why be vampire if not to find eternal love??? Hmm??? HMMMM??! Check mate WOD.
Also wanted to add something a month later
I honestly enjoy the Fledgeling as a character, truly. They have very limited background options, and even less of a personality – mostly because they have yours – but what little they have is a lot of fun to watch. They seem to be pretty chill, having a sense of humor (pretty sick, mostly), sometimes even empathy, depending on their humanity level, but, eh, sometimes the game is kind of forcing you to be edgy or react super chill and cool in the situations, where most freshly Embraced people would be screaming and shitting their pants.
It honestly always baffled me why VTMB just INSISTS the player to be an edgelord, sometimes to the point of cringe (even with taking in account having a Beast inside you), but even when you're playing a high-humanity vampire you're almost forced to be unnecessary rude to people like Gary or Imalia right away, even if you don't want to, and then I realized something.
We're playing as a young person in their twenties in 2004. It's a millennial.
