I made this a long time ago and was very nervous about posting it to Tumblr. I can’t really think of a good caption~ everything I wanted to say is in the little blurb at the beginning.

I always find it kind of weird that matriarchal cultures in fiction are always “women fight and hunt, men stay home and care for the babies” because world-building-wise, it makes no sense

think about it. like, assuming that gender even works the same in this fantasy culture as it does in ours, with gender conflated with sex (because let’s be real, all of these stories assume that), men wouldn’t be the ones to make the babies, so why would they be the ones to care for the babies? why is fighting and hunting necessary for leadership?

writing a matriarchy this way is just lazy, because you’re just taking the patriarchy and just swapping the people in it, rather than actually swapping the culture. especially when there are so many other cool things you could explore. like, what if it’s not a swap of roles but of what society deems important?

maybe a matriarchy would have hunting and fighting be part of the man’s job, but undervalued. like taking the trash out or cleaning toilets: necessary, but gross, and not noble or interesting. maybe farming is now the most important thing, and is given a lot of spiritual and cultural weight.

how would law work? what crimes would exist, and what things would be considered too trivial to make illegal? who gets what property? why?

how would religion work? how would you mark time or the passage into adulthood? what would marriage look like? if bloodlines are through the mother, bastardy wouldn’t even be a concept - how does that work?

what qualities would be most important in a person? how would you define strength or leadership? what knowledge would be the most coveted and protected? what acts or roles are considered useless or degrading?

like, you can’t just take our current society and say you’re turning it on its head when you’re just regurgitating it wholesale. you have to really think about why things are the way they are and change that. 

Alternative Maribat

Batman takes Marinette to the watch tower for whatever reason. Second everyone sees her

Superman: Batman, step away. Good. Ok, who has the least tragic backstory, least dark life, but still has the power to protect her?

Aquaman: I do not know who that child is but I want to protect them and make sure there are only good things in her life.

Flash: Same, but I’m out. If I run her anywhere and am not careful…well bodies aren’t designed for that speed. Same with you as I’m pretty sure she can’t breathe underwater

Batman: She’s-

Superman: No. Not with your current dark knight routine. 

Manhunter: I could help.

Superman: You sure, John?

Marinette: So you know I already have parents, I’m not a sidekick, still underage, and have class to get to. Batsy just sort of brought me for some reason I’m still not sure of

Batman: Because you are a new member of the Justice League and we protect our own. 

Marinette: I’m struggling with keeping Paris safe let alone fighting everything you do. 

Manhunter: I can learn French.

Marinette: I really didn’t ask for-

Green Lantern (passing her a ring): Here, in case you ever need some protection. I’ll get another

Wonderwoman: Batman once mentioned you were struggling with a liar. I will escort you home to expose them unless you would just like my lasso yourself. 

Marinette: I really-

Batman: So we have decided. John you will join Marinette in Paris pretending to be her new teacher so you can protect her there. Wonder woman you will make sure all around her are good people. Superman you’ll find Hawkmoth and defeat him. 

Marinette: I’m really really scared to ask but what will you be doing?

Batman: Hawkgirl is going to give your boyfriend a little visit while I talk to the other one about what happens if you get hurt.

Marinette: Wonder if Fluff will let me go back in time to avoid all this

Batman: We can also time travel so don’t do that

Marinette: Don’t you have a world to protect? Surely Joker is doing something or someone?

Batman (shrugs): Someone will take care of it. Think Constantine is down there? Green Arrow? Someone will deal with it.

Sleep: Adrien is Oblivious to Marinette’s Feelings.

Woke: Adrien is suppressing those feelings due to his feelings for Ladybug.

Enlightened: Adrien is constantly figuring out Ladybug & Marinette are the same but Bunnix keeps interfering, resulting in an “Oblivious” Adrien.

I know the popular take is Batman's rogues getting their butts handed to them by Bruce Wayne, and I'm not belittling that, because that's really funny for all stated reasons?

But how about a new take: most of Batman's rogues call him off limits, because they find out he is their benefactor, when/if they try to reform?

Mr Freeze won't touch him because when he's in Arkham, Bruce is the one who finances the research to help Nora Fries.

Poison Ivy won't touch him because he had been the one supplying her with plants, while in prison.

Harley won't touch him because he's just a great guy an' gotham needs guys like that.

Riddler won't touch him because he was the secret backer that time Eddie tried to open a detective agency.

Croc won't touch him because he's one of the few people who ever talks to him like a person.

Deadshot refuses any hits on him because he found out Wayne does a lot of secret work for people down on their luck who made bad mistakes.

Teach children that this is not ok

What if Marinette goes to GA and becomes friends with damian and are known as the chaos kids. The school gets used to them. The waynes need Damian one day and when they ask for him the reply is "At (area) doing (weird thing. Example: making pokemon statues out of waffles) with Mari" they get to said area they're gone and the fam has to keep asking people where he is and keep getting crazy replies. When they find him he's arguing with her about whether winnie the pooh's fav color is red or yellow

@coolrascalhoagienerd, well I had a good laugh when I saw this and where is the making of what I thought would have worked. I hope you enjoy. 

When Damian entered the halls of Gotham Academy, the first thing he notice was the change in the usual dark atmosphere. It felt oddly kinder and more lighthearted. Everywhere he turns there are whispers featuring around the new girl that recently join the school.

It’s funny how the two met that very same day. She was running down the halls in a hurry as he was walking to his next class, one that he was particular care for. They bump into each other causing a standstill in the halls. Everyone wondered how the dark prince would react to the princess of sunshine. They expected a yelling match, instead they got the best and worst of alliance ever made.

Just had my nth conversation with someone about mask-wearing today - yet another well-intentioned moron who was like 

‘But the virus is gone now’ (it isn’t) 

‘But the mask is uncomfortable’ (ventilators are worse)

‘But you’re young, you won’t die’ (having this thing could impact my health for decades to come + it’s my responsability to protect those who’re more vulnerable than I am because that’s how society works)

‘But are you going to live in fear for the rest of your life’ (taking concrete safety measures actually helps me feel more in control and less worried)

‘But are you going to give up everything and stay inside like a rat’ (no, but I’m definitely going to decide what’s worth risking my health for, and shopping for bread rolls is not very high on my list of literally-to-die-for activities)

‘But what if they never find a vaccine’ (then we’ll get used to the situation just like we got used to a thousand other things like seat belts, bike helmets, and increasingly weird true crime podcasts). 

I know it’s tiring to have people call you paranoid all the time - but you’re right and they’re wrong. Check the news, keep a safe distance from others whenever possible and keep wearing your mask!
