The emboldened, rising tide of fascism in the US has me reflecting a lot about the importance of standing up for our marginalized communities in meaningful ways. There is power in unity - we must build our communities, support our neighbors, and stand together.
it's because it's too saturated as well. removing the intensity of the saturation helps immensely with the image coherent-ness and helps him look closer to his original design
I am going to do my utmost to not talk too much about the CGI remake because its not good for me, however something I think is inchresting...
I noticed a lot of folks, myself included, felt that Toothless' eyes are a little off. Like technically the shape and colour are roughly correct, but something isn't quite right.
My personal theory is that this is because there is virtually no contrast between his eye colour and his body colour. They're both equally deep colours. Compare this to the animated movie and well...
I think a lot about how we as a culture have turned “forever” into the only acceptable definition of success.
Like… if you open a coffee shop and run it for a while and it makes you happy but then stuff gets too expensive and stressful and you want to do something else so you close it, it’s a “failed” business. If you write a book or two, then decide that you don’t actually want to keep doing that, you’re a “failed” writer. If you marry someone, and that marriage is good for a while, and then stops working and you get divorced, it’s a “failed” marriage.
The only acceptable “win condition” is “you keep doing that thing forever”. A friendship that lasts for a few years but then its time is done and you move on is considered less valuable or not a “real” friendship. A hobby that you do for a while and then are done with is a “phase” - or, alternatively, a “pity” that you don’t do that thing any more. A fandom is “dying” because people have had a lot of fun with it but are now moving on to other things.
I just think that something can be good, and also end, and that thing was still good. And it’s okay to be sad that it ended, too. But the idea that anything that ends is automatically less than this hypothetical eternal state of success… I don’t think that’s doing us any good at all.
tfw you confront your parents for sending you into the army as a child soldier
just throwing vague low effort sketch ideas around for how a confrontation between some side characters goes. and the first post wahooo just to get that out of the way.
Time: 0:21
short short version of the lore:
local angry son takes revenge on family by giving his illegal siblings to the queen of his kingdom and yells at his parents for making him a child soldier
short version of the lore:
Ardor (featured dragon) was sent off to be a soldier in an active war by his parents 3 years prior. He receives news that his parents are expecting a new child and is only permitted to visit upon their first birthday. Upon returning, he learns he has not 1 but 2 siblings, a firescaled and fireless dragonet. The village had kept them secret thus far.
Ardor keeps a facade to them but when he returns he shares this information to the Queen, who yoinks his siblings into the kingdom for further study (requested not to be killed by Ardor himself). Ardor and his parents, who are about to be arrested, have a high tension conversation where Ardor explains his reasoning behind the actions. His parents do the same, and in the end Ardor regrets his choice. His anger never should have been taken out on people who were never related to his problems.
Ardor's rank as a soldier is bolstered by it all, but the cost is great. And thus begins Crimson's perspective in the story.
It... It's true... I have turned into a Nocturne!
Day 27. The (I think) universal experience
was in a drawing mood so i drew a dragon. because that is 90% of what i make ever.
average copper dragon, mostly just a concept for smthn i may or may not commit to as a story. very basic premise but i think as a genre dragon fantasy stories are missing a lot of shit where nobody has sex. like why is there more pages of smut than mentions of dragons. give me a nerd of a protagonist. give me a character who just doesn't need some random man/woman carnally.
the day that "dragon book" actually means "story with a focus on dragons" and not "this is actually a romance novel and your main character is still going to have a heavy focus on how much they want to fuck the love interest INSTEAD of devoting page time to the beautiful lizards" is the day i will ascend
if one of you mfers tells me to read fourth wing i'm exorcising you
on that note i want to see more xenofiction about dragons that's made for more mature audiences. wings of fire is still for a teenage age range... let the dragons swear y'all.
give the dragons significant problems that cannot be solved with the powers of friendship and keep them as draconic as they should be. the world will delight.
i love how tumblr is the "idgaf i'm rambling" site. absolutely made for me
a little ironic that i complain about things focusing more on sex and people than dragons in the post that was supposed to be about dragons. whoops.
copper dragons are 1 of 3 dragon species in this potential universe. they're the most common dragon species (not that this is saying much) and are fantastic all rounders. they are the one dragon species capable of breathing fire via an organ in their throat. as the name implies, these dragons are the color of copper and are primarily orange/brown with blue/grey/green/turquoise spread all along their body. they have no different underbelly color. coppers live in a variety of areas; among dragons they are the most versatile. they prefer forested areas with access to caves and mountains, and are the most territorial dragon species. fun little bastards.
less importantly, in universe these are the dragons the main character is supposed to have, and then ends up getting later on. a bit of poor luck there!
Meet Socks!
finally felt like drawing dragons again. how many art styles can one have? idk but i count 3 so far just for dragons
shameless oc art of course, because thats all i post, species headcanons and all. this time around is one of my oldest characters, Blizzard. she's about 8 years old.
she's gone through arguably the most changes in her story and design in comparison to her 4 companions. though shockingly her color has stayed practically the same the entire time, but that's probably because icewings don't have many choices and i didn't want to make her look minty or purple-y.
anyways, work in progress (that may or may not be finished) because i'd like to finish her ex-girlfriend's side of the piece that i redo every year. somehow her girlfriend is not my favorite despite the fact she has the most art.
why i still continue to remake these despite not remaking the actual, written work for the story eludes me, but oh well. pretty colors are nice.
reblog bc people don't understand what dddne means 💔💔💔 swear it ain't all problematic shit y'all!!! that's not the meaning!!!
hate what people did to the dead dove tag
Day 5: Looks to the Moon region
Nothing creative to add to this one, on the technical side, I did try a more "graphic" approach to rendering to save time on the more demanding composition.
