Y’all, I’m over here DYING cuz Google suggested me this article about the crisis of backyard chicken keepers– which is that they love having chickens so much that they keep getting more, and then don’t know what to do with all the eggs.
Which I can see how this would be a problem, but it’s just so funny to me because they had interviewed this one guy who started off with 3 chickens, and then kept adding more and more, and eventually started donating the eggs to a local food bank, and at the end of the year when they wrote him a tax receipt, he discovered he’d donated over 400 dozen eggs.
Seriously, it was a whole article talking very seriously about how people are so into chickens that they just keep collecting them like pokemon and then have to “scramble” (their words not mine) to get rid of the eggs, because they weren’t even thinking of egg production, they just loved having chickens.
And while I may be over here laughing a bit too hard, honestly? Big Mood.

A lot of the guides I've seen don't actually seem to understand how reddit works in comparison to tumblr so
your blog is basically your own small subreddit. some people curate this heavily to fit a theme, like a sub, most people don't
reblogs are culturally equivilant to upvotes but functionally equvilant to crossposting
there is an algorithm. it sucks and nobody uses it. turn it off in settings. everything is generally chronological
likes are functionally equivilant to saving a post
you've probably already seen this but change your icon and put something in your bio or people WILL assume you're a bot. personal info not required
generally, anything you would put as a comment on a thread should go in the tags or the replies of a post. only add comments in reblogs if you want it to become part of the base post
tags are mostly equivilant to flairs, used for organization and commentary
your dashboard is an aggregation of everyone you follow
there is an r/all equivilant(trending page) but it sucks and nobody uses it
our search also sucks. your best bet is using tumblr.com/tagged/[TAG] and not /search
there are no mods
by extension, reporting something doesn't put it in front of the mods, it sends it to staff, who may or may not do anything(usually they don't)
there is no karma, there are no karma limits. anyone can reblog anything, comment/reply to anything, or post in any tag
"reposting"(reblogging) old content doesn't matter. people can and will reblog the same post multiple times, including in a row
CAVEAT. reposting someones art(NOT reblogging, making a new post) is a dick move. i know this is commonplace on fandom subs but its not necessary here. everything you post should be [OC] unless you are reblogging. or posting shitty memes
we have our own sitelore, you'll pick it up
(though im not opposed to bringing some over from reddit)
our app also sucks. we do not have third party apps and any that claim to be are scams. sorry
for desktop, most people use the XKit Rewritten extension for QoL improvements and to revert shitty aesthetic updates, much like old.reddit
we have no idea where the porn rules are at either. add a mature content flag to anything you'd get fired for looking at at work, that's about it
Take notes
Group of friends who are close because they all have the same superpower except no they don't.

The Amazon Rainforest is under a massive threat. I know you've heard this a million times, but this is different. There is a piece of legislation that will decimate the rights of Indigenous people of Brazil, who have been protecting the rainforest. It's unfathomably bad. It has majority support. And they're voting tomorrow. As reported here, the Bill allows "the Brazilian government to find energy resources, set up military bases, develop strategic roads, and implement commercial agriculture on protected Indigenous tribal lands, without any prior discussion with the affected peoples."
The thing you can do—and I know this sounds overly simple—is sign this petition—and tell your friends to do the same: SIGN HERE.
As reported here, the Bill allows "the Brazilian government to find energy resources, set up military bases, develop strategic roads, and implement commercial agriculture on protected Indigenous tribal lands, without any prior discussion with the affected peoples."
Again, this bill has majority support. You may be wondering, why will a petition signed by people who don't live in Brazil make any difference? Because it will give those opposing it political air cover. It will show the world is with them.
But we need a LOT of signatures.
Please do this simple act and spread the word.
FOOD
Find your nearest food bank or mission, for food
grocery stores with free samples, bakeries + stores with day-old bread
different fast food outlets have cheaper food and will generally let you hang out for a while.
some dollar stores carry food like cans of beans or fruit
SHELTER
Sleeping at beaches during the day is a good way to avoid suspicion and harassment
sleep with your bag strapped to you, so someone can’t steal it
Some churches offer short term residence
Find your nearest homeless shelter
Look for places that are open to the public
A large dumpster near a wall can often be moved so that flipping up the lids creates an angled shelter to stay dry
HYGIENE
A membership to the YMCA is usually only 10$, which has a shower, and sometimes laundry machines and lockers.
Public libraries have bathrooms you can use
Dollar stores carry low-end soaps and deodorant etc.
Wet wipes are all purpose and a life saver
Local beaches, go for a quick swim
Some truck stops have showers you can pay for
Staying clean is the best way to prevent disease, and potentially get a job to get back on your feet
Pack 7 pairs of socks/undies, 2 outfits, and one hooded rain jacket
OTHER
first aid kit
sunscreen
a travel alarm clock or watch
mylar emergency blanket
a backpack is a must
downgrade your cellphone to a pay as you go with top-up cards
sleeping bag
travel kit of toothbrush, hair brush/comb, mirror
swiss army knife
can opener

Are you stuck scrolling through reddit, twitter, tumblr, tiktok, any media site that gets money from the attention that you give it by granting you little scraps of dopamine whenever you actually find something genuine throughout the mundane?
I need you to pull up a playlist, any playlist. It can be an oc playlist, your world building playlist, mood playlist, etc.
Second, grab your notebook or sketchbook.
Third, get comfy somewhere, like the couch, your partner’s bed, etc (blankets and snacks may be crucial)
LASTLY, start your playlist and place your phone face down and just
Be bored. With your music. For 15 minutes.
Don’t pick up your phone, let your mind wander, and see where it takes you.
he’s licking his lips…
he’s checking it twice…
I never know how to say this without sounding condescending but when it comes to social media you can simply choose not to be around people who make you unhappy.
Absolutely captivated by this very specific type of image
Everyone knows that on Uber/Lyft you should always give the driver five stars unless they, like, drive the car into the ocean or something, right? You can’t say “the ride was fine, nothing special, so I gave them three stars,” because the company will punish them for being anything less than perfect.
Well, you should know that the same rule goes for any kind of customer service survey. Unless the service you received was unacceptable, give them 5/5 or 10/10 or whatever. It’s annoying, because it ruins the sensitivity of the survey, but it’s how it’s gotta be. 9/10 gets treated like a problem and 6/10 gets treated like a disaster. Understand this and do the workers a favor by grading easy.
maybe mediocrity isn’t wrong. maybe you don’t need to be the best at everything you do. maybe you don’t need to be the best at anything you do. it’s ok to simply do things because you enjoy doing them. its ok to not want to advance in your job. nothing has to be a competition. you don’t need to be better than anyone. you can do things just because they’re fun. you don’t need to read up on the history, and know everything about it. its ok to just exist. its ok.
This is based on decades of experience as an uncle and as an older brother.
Never forget that children are just as much people as adults are.
Kids 10 years or younger (and sometimes older than that) don’t get sarcasm or irony, so don’t use them.
If a child has difficulty pronouncing a word, don’t copy their misprounciation when speaking to them. They can hear the word just fine. It could sound to them like you’re making fun of them.
(Yes, this means no babytalk)
Don’t be dismissive.
Listen to what they’re saying.
To get on the same eye-level, don’t bend over or squat: it seems condescending. Kneeling or sitting are better.
It should go without saying that you should respect children’s body autonomy. Don’t force affection on them.
Respect children’s emotional autonomy as well. Let them be angry. Let them be sad. Don’t force them to be happy.
Let children like things. Don’t run down the things they like just because you find them cringy.
Don’t think that you know better.
To children, adults are giants. Be a big friendly giant.
Don’t stifle children’s curiosity.
Don’t stifle children’s enthusiasm.
To quote Sondheim, “Be careful the words you say, children will listen.”
Don’t look down on children.

its just undertale canon that chara eats rocks
hey @amalgarn i got you a mock up for that great new ask blog idea i gave you
Alright you guys, ‘tis the season again and I’ve already seen bullshit float about so here we go: what to do and what not to do when you happen to have a tick attached to yours truly.
DON’T cover the tick in anything. Vaseline, nailpolish, whatever. Doesn’t matter. It’ll all suffocate the tick, making it panic vomit germs into your blood stream. That’s the opposite of what you want.
DON’T burn the tick. Same problem, plus the additional option of giving yourself a burn wound in the process.
DON’T squeeze the body of the tick when you try to remove it. Again this empties the tick’s digestive system into your body. Bad.
DON’T wait for the tick to detach itself. The longer it stays on you, the higher the chances it’ll transmit anything to you. Plus when ti detaches it may again vomit germs into you.
STAY CALM. A tick hanging on you is not a reason to panick. You’re not going to keel over just like that, and if you’re unsure what to do, there are many resources on the internet on how to safely remove a tick, like this one from the CDC (aka the professionals)
USE APPROPRIATE TOOLS. These can be suitable tweezers (the pointy kind, not blunt tipped ones), tick removers (there are cheap ones out there, those you can buy at the vets are totally fine for use on humans, too!). Ideally you can remove the entire tick in one go, however if that doesn’t work and the mouth part breaks off in your skin, that’s not a terribly big deal and you can totally remove it separately after you got the body remove. Again, don’t panic.
KILL THE REMOVED TICK. But not by squeezing it. Flush it down the toilet, submerse it in alcohol in a container etc. Ideally if the tick has bitten you and not your dog, keep the tick around in a sealed container in case you start having symptoms and someone needs to identify the tick species. Also IF you start getting symptoms like the tell tale Lyme disease rash, HIT A DOCTOR RIGHT AWAY AND TELL THEM ABOUT YOUR TICK BITE. Do not wait this out, ticks can transmit a whole host of diseases beside Lyme, so be mindful of that, too!
Some of those diseases you can actually get vaccinated again, such as tick born encephalitis. Check with the local authorities if you live in a risk area, and if so, get the shots to protect yourself.
and another thing: no child should ever be made fun of for things they love especially by their parents
in light of gen 9's bonkers release timescale and the steadily-decreasing game quality in recent years, you may want to pull your support for pokemon until they get their shit together. however, you might feel too attached to the franchise to just drop it.
if that's your problem, this is the post for you!
originally this was a comic, hence the "special project" i was talking about, but my laptop decided to delete it randomly (rip) so you're getting a written guide.
rbs > likes for exposure, everything's under the cut!
to clarify something real quick, nintendo/the pokemon company owns the franchise and oversees the games + merch but gamefreak actually makes the games themselves. if you're going to be (rightfully) mad, get mad at the right people.
also a lot of this stuff might not come as a shock, but i still felt this was an important post to make, especially for younger/newer pokemon fans.
that being said, here we go!
you can play pokemon games multiple ways without supporting gamefreak! this may not come as a shock to most of you, but i still wanted to mention it.
buy games/devices secondhand (often cheaper and better for the environment, though it's still spending money)
borrow a friends device/copy of the game and play on that
use emulators (just a quick search on duckduckgo is a good place to start with this!)
play fangames
make your own fangames! i personally recommend rpg maker mv for game-making purposes. you can get a free, fully-functioning copy of rpg maker mv on steamunlocked!
we all know that joke about collecting the cards because they're pretty but not knowing how to play the card game. you can always:
buy the specific cards you want second-hand
find the cards you want and print them out
draw your own cards if you wanna have fun with it
here's where we're getting into interesting territory. usually by the time you can save up for these, they're out of stock.
your options are:
buy them secondhand (again, cheaper, better for the environment, and usually your only feasible option anyway)
learn 3d modelling (try blender, it's free and has a ton of tutorials out!) and make your own custom ones with 3d printing
the reblog button is gonna be your best friend. likes don't give exposure and they only serve to dishearten creators that were so excited to show their hard work to the world but might not even bother if they only get likes. what's the point if nobody sees what you do?
buying merch from individual creators on sites like redbubble and etsy not only tells these creators that you like and care about what they do, it gives them money to go towards important things so they can keep creating amazing things for you to enjoy!
merch on redbubble can range anywhere from stickers to blankets and pillows, and merch on etsy can be things like plushies, stickers, keychains, you name it! personally i'd recommend redbubble, though, since it doesn't charge the artist just to open a shop and have listings. etsy is notoriously shitty about how it treats its users.
you can also commission artists directly to draw whatever you want within their guidelines, not just pokemon! (shameless plug but my commissions are here, my phone recently broke ^^;) this is an even better option, since rather than the site taking a cut from what the artist would make, the only cuts taken are small fees by whatever the artist uses, which is usually paypal.
look at you, you made it through this overly-wordy guide!
before you go, if you really want to make a statement, email/tweet @/write to gamefreak/the pokemon company to tell them exactly why you won't be supporting them rather than just. not.
sending a clear message with specific complaints, then withholding money from their grubby corporate hands until they act right, is the best way to incite change as money's their only motivator.
however! it'll only work if this happens in large enough amounts with the same complaints, so be sure to encourage your friends to take these options too instead of doing it alone.
if this helps even one person, it was a post worth making in my opinion, so thanks for reading! have a good day/night!

Farewell online privacy
People on twitter arguing that Disney owns so many things it’s “““impossible”““ to boycott them when they still only own a bunch of entertainment and media brands. How does anyone not know about things like 123movies or kimcartoon. No you won’t get viruses or malware, no you won’t go to jail, stop spending money on moving pictures that hundreds of people have already uploaded for free, come on, this is ridiculous. If it kills the industries, let it. They’re too big. They’ve already made so much shit that you can never watch it all in one lifetime. Nobody needs more actually.
Become bipedal some of the time
guys. guys I just had a fucking vision of the next tumblr meme
