ZHONGLI AND GUIZHONG WERE NEVER A THING, JESUS CHRIST ON A STICK.

Sure, they formed the Guili Assembly together...with a third god, actually. Guizhong was kind and highly intelligent. Morax was extremely powerful and basically a war god. Morax was also not fuckin' smart. Morax leading a nation on his own? Uh-uh, not gonna happen. Remember, like, ~2000 years after Guizhong died, Venti basically said Morax was a, "brutish, blundering bafoon." And that's millennia after she died. That's like asking a stereotypical jock from a 90's TV show to run student counsel. Shit's gonna crash and burn almost immediately.

Guizhong, like I said, was extremely intelligent. But she was not much of a fighter. Alone, she probably wouldn't have stood a chance against the monsters, demons and other gods of the time that would try to take her land. Forming an alliance with Morax was a big brain play. The brawn to her brains. If anything, she was out of his league lmao And then she died in a battle... 3700 years ago. She's been dead almost longer than Xiao has been alive, I believe. It will always hurt to lose a friend, especially when you live as long as Zhongli and remember practically everything that has happened in your extremely long life.

Tumblr is weird because sometimes you go to a mutual's page and like/reblog half their content like you just broke in their house and imediately ate a little piece of all their food, tried out some of their clothes, sat on their sofa, and then just left.

And sometimes the mutual notices and does the same to your house.

Very Brief Guide to [tumblr], for Reddit refugees

Shit You Must Do Right Fucking Now:

Change your profile picture, blog header, and title to something other than the defaults. Do it right now. You will be mistaken for a bot otherwise, and blocked.

Go into Settings -> Dashboard, scroll down to Preferences, and turn off the options in the picture. This will get rid of most of the algorithmic stuff.

Turn off Tumblr Live. You have to snooze it once every 7 days for some stupid reason. It's hosted through another company and will steal your data if you use it.

Go to your blog settings (under the little person menu) and turn off these two settings:

Turn off infinite scroll (lags the site) and turn on timestamps on posts, in the same menu as Preferences.

Basic Features of the Site:

Reblogs drive the entire site. If you'd upvote something on Reddit, you'd reblog it on Tumblr. You can add text, images, or tags to a reblog, but you're not required to.

The dashboard is the equivalent to your Reddit feed, and contains the posts of all the people you follow, with the newest at the top

You can send an ask to someone, and it'll appear in their askbox for them to answer. You can receive them too, or turn off the settings if you don't want.

Tags aren't actually used for finding stuff (search function is dogshit), but are more for categorizing. People also talk in tags. Because Tumblr is weird, you can't use quotation marks (") or commas in them without fucking it up

You can filter both tags and phrases under Account Settings; doing this will put a filter over a post that contains them, which you'll have to click through to see the post itself. Useful for avoiding hate speech or blocking out annoying stuff

You can make polls in posts. Here's one now.

Likes are useless. They literally do fuck-all except send a notification to the OP.

Stuff Tumblr Does That Other Sites Don't:

Very old posts (I'm talking from like 2012) often circulate on this site. There's no such thing as a post being "too old" to reblog

Blocking is highly encouraged; you can block someone for any reason. Even for just being annoying.

If you and someone else are following each other, you are mutuals. Mutuals are fucking awesome and are treasured like friends. Mutuals are a thing on other sites but Tumblr treats em differently.

You can screenshot someone's tags if you like them and add them to a reblog. This is called "peer review"

Sometimes someone will find a blog and go through it and like/reblog a bunch of posts. This is totally fine and not "creepy" like it is seen as on other sites.

Tumblr jokes often rely on Continuing The Bit and a "yes, and?" attitude. Goncharov is probably the best example of this.

We are fucking infested with bots. They will either have totally blank profiles or be filled with porn. Block and report on sight.

Censorship is pretty lax here. I can say "I want to brutally stab Elon Musk to death and watch him bleed out in front of a crowd" and nobody gives a shit.

General Etiquette:

Don't try to do epic clapbacks here, you'll probably just get laughed at or blocked. If someone is bugging you or spouting bigoted bullshit, block them.

Reblog art!!! Artists often struggle to gain traction on here; reblogging will give them a boost.

Not every reblog needs a comment or tag in it

You can go all out with tagging your stuff to organize it, or you can just leave it all blank. Someone might ask "hey, can you tag these posts as [x]?" and you can decide if you want to do that or not. It's generally polite to oblige, but "no" is still reasonable.

Avoid discourse like the plague. Filter it, block people who start it, scroll past it when you see it. Just don't get involved in it. Ever.

Don't put fandom tags or jokes on someone's posts about serious matters or personal shit

You're responsible for curating your own dashboard; if you complain about constantly seeing stuff you don't like, that's probably on you. Don't be afraid to unfollow.

Follower count doesn't matter much here and you don't have to make yours known if you don't want to.

Reblog, don't repost. Reblogging keeps the credit and doesn't "steal" engagement like Twitter retweets.

If someone likes something a LOT, they might reblog it like 30 times in a row. This is normal

Having a post blow up is actually kinda a bad thing, since it floods your notifications. There's a sort of in-joke about how having a big post is awful and people jokingly try to stop their own posts from blowing up, often in vain.

Tips:

Get XKit Rewritten if you're on desktop, it's a really helpful extension

In the little drop-down menu next to the 'Post now' button you can either save a draft, schedule a post, or add it to your queue. The queue lets you post things in order at a certain interval, which you can change. It's good for spreading stuff out over time.

You can use Shift+R to quickly reblog stuff and Shift+Q to queue!

Filter your notifications under Activity - you can also see some neat graphs

In four days, this picture will have been posted ten years ago. This was me as a 15 year old in high school. I had starved and abused my body to make it thinner. I hated myself. The only value I felt was my proximity to thinness. I was severely depressed and suicidal. I had endured abuse and trauma as a child, and that left me vulnerable to being taken advantage of by my "friend" on the right who abused and traumatized me further before throwing me away as soon as I told her "No."

I look even thinner in this picture, yet my face was still and always will be fat. My face was one of the biggest signs that my body I starved was meant to be fat from the beginning. The "friend" I mentioned in the other photo is cosplaying Nemo here. The 22 year old woman cosplaying Gill in this photo had an intimate relationship with me at this time when I was 15 years old. I was extremely vulnerable and grieving unbearable loss, and she used that to groom me. I look at these pictures and see a 15 year old girl who was suffering and only had her proximity to thinness to feel pride in. There was no happiness. So many points in my life I was close to developing a full on eating disorder because I had been told for two decades that my body was ugly, disgusting, and the physical equivalent of sin.

This is me ten years later at my brother's wedding. I gained back all of the weight I lost back then and am heavier than any past moment of my life. I still have mental disorders that make my life painful and difficult to live, but I am no longer suicidal. I no longer am fruitlessly chasing the thin body I was always told I was supposed to have. I have a healthier relationship with my body than I ever did in the past, and I'm making immense progress on my recovery. I don't starve myself anymore. I don't exercise for two hours a day on high levels that are dangerous for me. I intuitively eat and know that diet culture and fatphobia are wrong. I am closer to fully recovering than I've ever been.

Obviously Harry Potter is fucked up as hell, filled with bigotry and stereotypes, and a lot of the morals they claim to espouse are very broken aesops.  

However, there’s one broken aesop/fucked up thing that I haven’t seen anyone talk about: the fact that the narrative tries to push wizards as “oppressed”, when really they are oppressing basically everyone else.

Literally the only time we see a wizard being oppressed because they’re a wizard is Harry with the Dursleys, and a couple mentions of the Witch Trials.  The Harry thing is one isolated incident, which hasn’t happened to any of the other known muggleborn and/or muggle-raised characters.

I’m not saying that the Dursleys didn’t abuse Harry, or that he “deserved” how they treated him.  I’m one of the first who will call the Dursleys’ abuse what it is, and no child deserves to go through that shit.  Also, I know that HP-verse wizards are born with their ability to use magic and they can’t help it.

However, wizarding society as a whole oppresses everyone who isn’t a wizard, and even some wizards.  

Wizards see muggles(non-magical humans) not unlike how muggles see those apes that know sign language(and other intelligent animals).  They also see nothing wrong with regularly fucking with muggles’ minds and memories, and they often all but divide/isolate muggleborn wizards from their muggle family members.  

Wizards treat all non-humans and part-humans like utter shit.  This includes oppressive laws(eg. werewolves and goblins, as well as the whole bigoted “beasts vs beings” classification the wizarding government does with non-humans), mass enslavement(eg. house-elves), wars and thievery(eg. goblins), full-on genocide(eg. giants), and general societal assholery and disdain(eg. half-giants and other hybrids, and centaurs, and others).

Wizards even see their own kind as “lesser” if they have any muggle ancestry that is more recent than great-grandparents.  They especially see wizards that have completely muggle parentage as “lesser”.

Even the “good guy” wizards tend to be dismissive of muggles and prejudiced against non-humans!

So like, it really screws over the supposed messages about “bigotry being bad” and “your blood not mattering” and whatnot.  Especially since most of the supposed “good guys” are still bigoted, and the bigotry against non-humans wasn’t changed even when things got better for muggleborn wizards.  

Also it honestly makes me uncomfortable these days when I read a fic that suggests that wizards are “oppressed” for being wizards/having magic.  This is most commonly seen in fics that mention/are about Harry and his experiences with the Dursleys.

Again, Harry was abused by the Dursleys and treated like shit for having magic.  He was arguably “oppressed” by his blood family for having magic, and he didn’t deserve what he went through.

However, Harry’s case was one isolated incident, once which hadn’t been seen in the cases of any of the other known muggle-raised wizards.  The only other character who arguably had an abusive muggle family member was Snape, and from what I know his dad mostly fought with his mom, and, while Tobias Snape was an asshole, he wasn’t the horrifyingly physically abusive monster that the Snape Stannies paint him as in their Snape-woobification stuff.  

And even if you take Snape into account, there’s still the fact that Harry went from being “oppressed” to being in a high rank of the oppressor class as soon as he joined the wizarding world: he was a fully human wizard, and one of his parents was a pureblood wizard from a rich and well-known pureblood family, and he also has the “Boy Who Lived”/“Chosen One”/“Savior Of The Wizarding World” fame and celebrity status on top of that(though the way he got that fame/status is fucked up and tragic, I’ll admit).

So, while Harry did have a shitty life, he wasn’t oppressed in the wizarding world, especially not for being a wizard.  In fact, he’s actually really privileged in the wizarding world, outside of the whole “dead parents + abusive relatives” thing and the “constantly targeted by Voldemort” thing.

I’m watching that documentary “Before Stonewall” about gay history pre-1969, and uncovered something which I think is interesting.

The documentary includes a brief clip of a 1954 televised newscast about the rise of homosexuality. The host of the program interviewed psychologists, a police officer, and one “known homosexual”. The “known homosexual” is 22 years old. He identifies himself as Curtis White, which is a pseudonym; his name is actually Dale Olson.

So I tracked down the newscast. According to what I can find, Dale Olson may have been the first gay man to appear openly on television and defend his sexual orientation. He explains that there’s nothing wrong with him mentally and he’s never been arrested. When asked whether he’d take a cure if it existed, he says no. When asked whether his family knows he’s gay, he says that they didn’t up until tonight, but he guesses they’re going to find out, and he’ll probably be fired from his job as well. So of course the host is like …why are you doing this interview then? and Dale Olson, cool as cucumber pie, says “I think that this way I can be a little useful to someone besides myself.”

Despite the pseudonym, Dale’s boss did indeed recognize him from the TV program, and he was promptly fired the next day. He wrote into ONE magazine six months later to reassure readers that he had gotten a new job at a higher salary.

Curious about what became of him, I looked into his life a little further. It turns out that he ultimately became a very successful publicity agent. He promoted the Rocky movies and Superman. Not only that, but get this: Dale represented Rock Hudson, and he was the person who convinced him to disclose that he had AIDS! He wrote the statement Rock read. And as we know, Rock Hudson’s disclosure had a very significant effect on the national conversation about AIDS in the U.S.

It appears that no one has made the connection between Dale Olson the publicity agent instrumental in the AIDS debate and Dale Olson the 22-year-old first openly gay man on TV. So I thought I’d make it. For Pride month, an unsung gay hero.
