words to revise: to treble/ plight/ hazard/ surfeit/ to pelt/to wheedle/ purportedly/ rapturous/ putrid/ stint/ cowlick/ to hallow

1) reprehensible - verwerflich - répréhensible/ condamnable : His methods are unethical and therefore reprehensible.

2) dogged - verbissen/ hartnäckig - acharné/ obstiné: A dogged person does not give up, even when problems arise. 

3) at a hand’s breadth - handhoch - le hauteur d’une main: The plants were at a hand’s breadth, they could still grow a bit!

4) clout - Schlagkraft/Einfluss - le poids/ l’influence (f):  Her arguments had a lot of political clout.

5) to disparage sb/ sth - diskreditieren - dénigrer qc/qn :  He did not disparage the paper - he praised it.

6) to renege (on a promise) - sich nicht an ein Abkommen, Versprechen halten - revenir sur sa parole : The contract prevents one of the parties from reneging later on.
