Nothing beats the power I feel doing my physics homework on a whiteboard in the library š
The word lanaĀ (wool) in languages such as Spanish is etymologically related to English wool. For words to be related, they don't have to look like each other. Instead, you have to be able to trace them back to the same ancestor through regular sound changes - and that's what linguists managed to do with wool and lana. The infographic shows the Germanic and Romance family trees of these words.

Hey, happy Earth Day! Who wants to talk about climate change?
Yeah, okay, fair, I kinda figured the answer to that would be "ugh do we have to?" What if I told you I have good news though? Good news with caveats, but still good news.
What if I told you that since the Paris Agreement in 2015, we've avoided a whole degree celsius of global warming by 2100, or maybe more?
Current projections are 2.7C, which is way better than the 3-5C (with a median of 3.7C) we were expecting in 2015. It's not where we want to be - 1.5C - but it is big, noticeable progress!
And it's not like we either hit 1.5C and avoid all the big scary consequences or fail to hit 1.5C and get all of them - every tenth of a degree of warming we avoid is going to prevent more severe problems like extreme weather, sea level rise, etc.
This means that climate change mitigation efforts are having a noticeable impact! This means a dramatically better, safer future - and if we keep pushing, we could lower the amount of global warming we end up with even further. This is huge progress, and we need to celebrate it, even though the fight isn't over.
It's working. Keep going.

As a woman in STEM, it really bugs me how people (especially guys) will refuse to believe you if you say that youāre not brilliant in your field/subjects. We have this norm fashioned in popular media that says when a woman pops up where she doesnāt traditionallyĀ ābelong,ā itās because she had to strong-arm her way in by being better than everyone else. But thatās not typically the case. Not in the contexts where itās being assumed.
Iām an average physics student. Thatās reflected in my grades and in the depth of my understanding of the material. Iāve bombed easy tests because I didnāt study enough. I usually score exactlyĀ the median average on exams. Iām not brilliant. Really. But everyone I talk to insists that I mustĀ be. After all, Iām a woman in a manās field, right? The only way I could secure a place among the men is by proving myself their superior.
This warped norm is responsible for dissuading a lot of women and girls from pursuing STEM. They think they arenāt smart enough for it, purely because theyāre not smarterĀ than their male classmates.
LOVE magdalena bay. like genuine affection. listened to mercurial world for the first time today and itās so excellent, so far beyond what most pop artists are putting out these days. itās so refreshing to see an artist with a sort of antitheatrical speaking persona, who prioritizes the album over the individual track, and is asking engaging original artistic question with pop music- to know that itās still possible in the digital age, especially as commentary ON the digital age, is just such a relief. genuinely makes me believe that pop art/āart-popā is not dead
