An angry mother recently posted cellphone video of her 7-year-old son in handcuffs at his elementary school. The officer who detained him was unable to release him because he lost his set of keys to the handcuffs….WTF??
7-years-old Cameron McCadden told his mother that he was handcuffed by police because he kicked a cart and refused to sit down when the officer asked him to, and the school has remained silent about the details of the incident.
In a statement, the Flint Police Department said that the student “appeared intent on injuring himself” and that “The officer used handcuffs to restrain the child to prevent injury to the child or others.” However, Cameron says that he never hit or threatened any of the other children, and no one at the school actually said that he did, the officer just said that he was afraid that the child might hurt someone.
Cameron’s mother, Chrystal McCadden, said that her son has ADHD and while he sometimes has difficulty focusing in class, he is not a violent person and has never exhibited any signs of violent behavior.
“He’s hyper. I’ve gotten these calls about (him) being hyper before. But he is not a violent kid. I’m still trying to get answers,” she said.
To make matters worse, when a distress McCadden got to school to pick up her handcuffed son, the officer cannot find the key.
“You put my son in handcuffs and you didn’t have the key. He wasn’t in here with a gun or knife. There was no other action you could do?” she added.
Flint Police Chief James Tolbert said Friday that he has apologized for the incident.
Now the young boy is likely traumatized, after a simple act of childhood disobedience was turned into a criminal act. smfh.

I’m sick of losing people. Look at you, with your eyes, your never giving up, your anger, and your… kindness. And one day, remembering that will hurt so much that I won’t be able to breathe.
