i see only darkness

you switched off the light when you left my life

and i’m too tired to turn it back on

so i remain, transfixed, lit by the dim glow

from the crack under the door

occasionally lit by the light of

the random visitor who will open

the door and say hi only to

leave, shutting out light once more.

My notebook lies barren,

pages unfilled, untouched.

Your bright sun has brought drought

starving the fields of sadness

that overtook my mind.

Let it remain so. 

Let them find my notebooks

and make their assumptions.

You and I shall know-

there was no happier time.
