“Nina’s not that bad. She’s just got a rough exterior.” I say. Remembering her batteries I fish through my drawer and grab the case. Swinging around, I go to sit beside her on the love seat and hand her the whole case. I then lean forward to grab my donut mug, reverently inhaling while holding it up to my nose. 

“What’s your story?” I ask, head tilting to the side curiously.

I guess.. She seems a little homophobic... Oh, thanks for the batteries.” I fiddle with the package.” Uh um I guess I could talk about my story with you.. I trust you for some reason, even though I’ve known you for like five minutes.. but uh if I say anything I’m gonna need a cig.  Can I?”

“ Sorry if Nina was mean to you, she tends to do that sometimes.” I say, wanting to console her. “Oh, and by the way, I wouldn’t tell anybody either. Got no-one to tell, except for Munchie here, but he is much more interested in his little buddy over there.” I say gesturing towards the little kitten laying on his back playing with his toy mouse. 

“Uhh…sure. Oh right! Your lighter.” I hop up, spilling a little of my hot-cocoa on myself, making me groan. Nonetheless, I go over to my kitchen and reach on my utmost tiptoes to grab the lighter I keep at the top of my fridge. Going over to the peculiar woman sitting on my beloved love seat, I extend my arm, offering up the lighter. “Well, if you’re going to tell me that story of yours, I think you’ll need this.” 

“ He’s cute. Had him for long? Uh... does Munchie stand for something?

“ Awesome thanks.” I scoot to sit on one butt cheek to grab the pack of cigs out of my pocket. I take one out and place it between my lips. using the lighter I light it up and take a really long drag and blow it out away from Rosie and her kitty

I look downwards feeling angry about it. I cough to clear my throat. “ Now where to begin my beautiful story...”

My Personal Character Files: The 6 Box Method

This is for my science fiction WIP, so some things may need to be added/modified depending on your genre. I will also include a screenshot of an example at the bottom so y’all can see how I set it up in my Doc.

1. The Quick Ref

I use this as the first page of my “Character FIles” Doc.

I put all my important characters in a list, then add their height, age, and the page their complete file can be found on. This is helpful when I need to know if a character would have to crane their neck upward to look another character in the eyes. Comes up more than I’d have guessed.

2. The Individual Profile: 6 Box Method

I add and subtract stuff based on how important the character is. Without further ado…

Box One: Reference Photo

This is where I add in any actor, model, drawing, etc that I base the look on. When I don’t need one, sometimes I’ll put in a picture that represents the character’s style.

”Oh I am just fine.” I answer a little too high-pitched.”This is a regular hazard when I talk to any person ever. Anyways, my offer still stands. A cup of hot cocoa, a few batteries and a lighter that may or may not work.” I say, smiling reassuringly.

I jump as she replies to me. “okay if you say so, I’ll gladly take you up on that. Uh, what do you mean a hazard? if you don’t mind me asking. You seem cool.” I smile at her.
