Gripping the railing I lug my suitcase up the stairs. “Ha.Ha. Very witty. Nina was in her room painting, when she heard a large thud from outside the apartment. What now? She flung open her door to a tattooed, rugged haired girl sprawled across the hallway floor.

“Well, I was not expecting that,”

I look over to the right where I heard the female voice. standing in a doorway is a lady covered in specks of colors. “What are looking at rainbow? can’t you see I’m trying to have a conversation? You can go back to whatever it is you were doing.”

Oh,shit.

That is fair. I like life. Life is good.

You need wings? I got you, flyman..flyboy. I’ll work on it. Send me the details. I’m firing up the engines as we speak. I’ll bring them safe and whole, Nik. That’s a promise.

But nah, no owing. Just say you’ll race me again sometime and we got a deal.

She knew it. Nina didn’t want to make assumptions, but Peyton seemed to be fitting the bill. Nina was not swinging that way.

“Nope. That’s really not my thing,” She said in disgust. Maybe she will get the message.

“ Damn you don’t need to be such an ass. I was just messing around. Next time keep your bitchy judgemental comments to yourself.” I angrily huff at her.

I reach my arm out and snatch the handle of my suitcase out of her hand. I rush to my room number. I jiggle the handle realizing its locked. I grab the crummy key from my pocket and shove it in the key hole. I swing the door open and shut it with a bang. I feel my face is wet and realize I’m crying. I sink down to the floor and lean agaisnt the door crying my eyes out.

Oh,shit.

My Personal Character Files: The 6 Box Method

This is for my science fiction WIP, so some things may need to be added/modified depending on your genre. I will also include a screenshot of an example at the bottom so y’all can see how I set it up in my Doc.

1. The Quick Ref

I use this as the first page of my “Character FIles” Doc.

I put all my important characters in a list, then add their height, age, and the page their complete file can be found on. This is helpful when I need to know if a character would have to crane their neck upward to look another character in the eyes. Comes up more than I’d have guessed.

2. The Individual Profile: 6 Box Method

I add and subtract stuff based on how important the character is. Without further ado…

Box One: Reference Photo

This is where I add in any actor, model, drawing, etc that I base the look on. When I don’t need one, sometimes I’ll put in a picture that represents the character’s style.

 I wave an uncoordinated hand, ushering her in.

“Thanks, uh you’re looking a little red? Are you okay? If you’re scared I’m gonna kidnap you. I’m 19, what am I gonna do? Tickle you? I’m a lazy ass. It’s to much effort to kidnap you.” I rush to make her think I’m not a creepy kidnapping person. ‘uh if you're still up giving me those batteries and a lighter if you have it. I can leave straight away if you want.” 

Knock, knock.

“I can’t think of anywhere, no. But, there’s a pub not too far down and a grocery store. I would try there first,” She informed her, as they walk down the stairs and out of the residence. 

If she was being honest, she was looking for someone to replace her current nanny. Not because she doesn’t like dear old Maggie, but she needed a more reliable person who wouldn’t drop dead at any second. “I never meant to offend you, so I’m sorry for that. I’m just not interested in same sex relationships, that’s all,” She was being honest - although she is a little more prejudiced than that sentence would lead on. She unlocked her scratched up, red car and motioned for Peyton to get inside.

“Could you take me to the pub first?- I’ll take what I can get. I’m not mad about you having your own opinions. That's fine, I have my own opinions too but when you judge me for my opinions that’s when I get upset. Don’t judge me and we’re good. Thanks for the ride, though. I would have had to walk for ages.” I see her wave her hand signaling for me to get in. I go to sit in the back.

Nina was not expecting that kind of response. “If you were smart, you wouldn’t have fallen through the damn door in the first place,” But she was right, maybe she should help her. She didn’t want to make a horrible impression.

She sighed. “Would you like some help?” She said somewhat sarcastically.

I smile at her. “ I don’t appreciate the sass but thanks. I wasn’t expecting that.”
