Rambles/Headcanons under cut:
Because Medic is thought to be in his 50s during the comic and game, that'll make him born around 1910s or 20s. Making him eligible to be drafted into WW11. That's why he has combat training and knowledge, but he wants to pursue being a doctor or sciencist to experiment.
He didn't get that chance though, either dying in the war or being captured (I can ramble about the idea of him and Heavy meeting in the gulag) then killed or perishing in the conditions of the gulag.
His life didn't end there though, being sent to hell he made a deal with the devil, for medical knowledge and life again for his soul.
He was able to be revived and after the war, he pursued being a doctor—we all know what happens next.
