synopsis: You wish you had never left. If you hadn't she wouldn't have lost everything.

Her body ached, her skin burned. But her only focus was getting Lev to the beach. Once he's able to step out onto the sand she collapses next to the boat, letting the cool waves wash over her legs.

“Abby.” Lev calls, his voice hoarse, “Abby you need to get up.” 

She opens her eyes to find a gun pointed at her chest.

It was all a lie.

The character you had built yourself to be was just that, someone you could hide behind as you fought through your emotions. Many people depended on you now, there always seemed to be a constant reminder of the fact, and you found that you had begun pushing yourself more than you really needed to. You understood that it wasn’t healthy, but it was a bad habit you knew you couldn’t pull yourself out of. 

“Think you can make it through today?” Neil glances down at your hands as you fiddle with the charm bracelet around your wrist. 

“Yup.” You smile. You pop your lip and begin to hum as you try to distract yourself from Neil’s heavy gaze. The two of you walk into the restaurant and greet the familiar faces as you approach the table where you and your team normally meet up. 

“You should eat,” Neil mumbles. 

You shrug. “I’m not hungry. I’ll save it for later.” 

He begins to say something, but seemingly gives up as Dannie and Rachel’s voices draw your attention away from him. “Good morning,” Rachel sings.

“Morning.” 

“Hey,” Dannie glances up from her glass. “Doc says he needs to meet you about going on another trip for supplies.” 

You nod, “I’ll meet him before I head out for patrol.” 

“Sounds good.” 

You’d only get a couple minutes of peaceful chatter before you’re being dragged outside and towards the docs. Jake– one of the doc’s petrol men– speaks incoherently as he drags you along. You look over to Neil and he just shrugs. “Whoa, hey, slow down.”

“It’s really important, and I think you’ll be happy to hear it…” 

“I’m sure it is, but I can’t understand you if you’re talking that fast.” You place your hand on his shoulder, forcing him to take a second to calm down. 

“A few of the guys saw a boat,” He pauses. “They’re in rough shape, but we think it could be-” 

“Holy shit.” You look back at Neil. "Do you think it could be her?"

“We can’t be sure.”

You run down to the beach, and you watch as they pull a woman and a small boy farther up the beach. One of the patrolmen points his rifle at them, screaming at them, demanding answers.

"Hey!"

They all turn towards you, all equally surprised.

"Lower your gun, they're not a threat," You glare at him. If looks could kill, this man would be 6 feet underground.

He hesitates before lowering the gun, and you continue to glare at him until he backs away. You look down at the young boy, the large scars that curve up his cheeks are the first thing you notice. You look over at Neil, who seems to have noticed the familiar markings. He walks over and kneels in front of him, and you turn your attention back to the woman in front of you.

Her build was familiar, so were her freckles and the color of her hair. But it wasn't until you looked into her eyes and heard her whispering your name until you knew. You knew it was Abby.

You wrap your arms around her and allow her to fully fall into you. She sobs into your shoulder, and you try your best to hold yourself together.

"Hey," You coo, "you're okay. You're safe."

A/N: AHHH i hope you're as excited as i am... i'm not entirely sure how many chapters there is going to be, as i'm not sure how much i'm going to write.. but if you guys have any ideas for the plot and or ideas for extras, please let me know. let me know if you want me to make a permanent taglist and if you want to be on it!!
