THERE IS. a website. that takes 3D models with seams and pulls it apart to make a plushie pattern and informs you where things need to be edited or darts added for the best effect. and then it lets you scale it and print off your pattern. and I want to lose my MIND because I've lost steam halfway through so many plushie patterns in the mind numbing in betweens of unwrapping, copying all of the meshes down as pieces, transferring those, testing them, then finding obvious tweaks... like... this would eradicate 99% of my trial and error workflow for 3D models to plushies & MAYBE ILL FINALLY FINISH SCREAMTAIL...

Row of tampons on a blue background

There is a new subreddit called r/PeriodPantry that allows people who need period products to post wishlists. Many people are forced by poverty to chose between menstrual hygiene products and other necessities, and may end up skipping meals or suffering health problems or social isolation as a result of lacking hygiene products. Please feel welcome to post a period product wishlist, fulfill a wishlist, and/or reblog this post to help it reach others.

the fact that people actually pay for all these different shitty streaming services and i keep hearing shit like โ€œoh theyโ€™re gonna have [movie from like 2005] on Disney+ so guess Iโ€™ll suck some capitalist dick!โ€ โ€ฆโ€ฆ..piracy is RIGHT THERE either use a pirate site or stop complaining about how expensive it is to give money to 15 different leeches so you can watch all your favourite movies (if youโ€™re lucky and they have them which they often donโ€™t) when you could just hit up fucking Google and watch it for free

From a friend: Google is so powerful that it "hides" other search systems from us. We just don't know the existence of most of them.

Meanwhile, there are still a huge number of excellent searchers in the world who specialize in books, science, other smart information.

https://link.springer.com - access to more than 10 million scientific documents: books, articles, research protocols.

www.bioline.org.br is a library of scientific bioscience journals published in developing countries.

http://repec.org - volunteers from 102 countries have collected almost 4 million publications on economics and related science.

www.science.gov is an American state search engine on 2200+ scientific sites. More than 200 million articles are indexed.

www.pdfdrive.com is the largest website for free download of books in PDF format. Claiming over 225 million names.

I hope this doesn't come across as offensive, but I was your post about demigods celebrating greek holidays and I was really curious about it. The reason I personally never tried to write about it, was because I didn't want things to come across as offensive because I didn't know much about it. What I'm trying to say is, do you know any reliable places/sources that have accurate representation of how people would be celebrating it and where I could do some research?

Iโ€™m going to be honest, most of the sources are either based in a personal belief (not the actual representation of ancient practices and actually someone making it their own and sharing) or... very misleading.

I can recommend a few sites but again, the info isnโ€™t fully accurate and for some is based on UPG (unverified personal gnosis-- basically meaning their personal beliefs that may or may not have any support by our writings or historical record). UPG work is totally valid, stars know I have my own, but itโ€™s also not historical.

There isnโ€™t a lot of information on our holidays, a lot of information was lost, and most sources are college textbook style or in books. I have access to a few but theyโ€™re fairly expensive.

A lot of sources are also conflicting, and people disagree a lot, and translations get updated and opinions change.

This calendar has a pretty comprehensive list of holidays, along with information on them if you click the holidays (open to new tabs for easy viewing). It is an Athenian based calendar, and the site as a whole is fairly good, but itโ€™s also heavily based in the site mods UPG and thus should not be considered completely historical.

This site also has good holiday information and brings up all of them as far as I can tell, but is overall fairly vague on the holidays themselves and do it alphabetically, by the original Greek Names, rather than by date. They hold a mix of very historical and a community UPG for their stances on things. I donโ€™t agree with a lot of what they say, but they have some good resources. Theyโ€™re also Orphic (a specific branch of Hellenism) so their holidays and beliefs reflect it.

Those are the two big sites that I referenced originally, most other sources would be in books (and I am still building up my resources there). There are other sources that have information, but while these two sources have some issues, many other sites... well theyโ€™re either entirely UPG or extremely traditional to the point of insulting the more modern practices and I donโ€™t want to link stuff to them.

Please keep in mind that unlike something like, say, Christianity, Hellenism is very personal in itโ€™s practice and there are a lot of different ways to practice it. All of this information is helpful, but many Hellenists wonโ€™t practice them exactly as the sites say

I personally used the first link I showed you as the basis of my Heliogenna.

I should explain more about Heliogenna as well. It is a modern festival, created by Hector Lugo, here is the source of information. the reason we celebrate this modern festival is because though we know that the Ancient Greeks celebrated something around the solstice, we donโ€™t know what. Heliogenna was created to effectively fill this slot, it honors the deities connected to light and home (Helios being the main focus) and the chthonic deities (underworld deities).

Anyways, these are the most reliable free sources I have for you, and I did extra searching as well to see if there were any other sites but no others fit my strict requirements for sourcing and general respectfulness to other practitioners.

You are welcome to send me asks for more information on anything or if youโ€™re wondering about anything the sources say. If they donโ€™t have the information youโ€™re wanting, or you want to know my thoughts on the holidays please shoot me an ask or even a dm. I tend to grab second opinions from some other pagan friends when I answer those questions, or even for my own work, so you will have a variety of opinions given.

I stumbled across this blog on accident, but I am intrigued and I have to ask: is there a specific best place to read the Ulster Cycle in English?

yo! welcome to the niche corner

okay so first up the โ€œulster cycleโ€ is a modern term given to a huge and disparate body of texts, some of which connect obviously to each other and some of which donโ€™t but happen to have some of the same characters. some retellings attempt to rewrite the whole thing into a single coherent narrative but those are, by necessity, retellings rather than translations since that isnโ€™t actually... what it is.

not all the texts have been translated but most of the big ones have and some of them even have multiple translations which is great

the big, central text and the one i reference most often is tรกin bรณ cรบailnge, which used to get translated as โ€œthe cattle-raid of cooleyโ€ until thomas kinsella came along and was like โ€œhey, maybe people would take us more seriously if we called it the tรกinโ€, so thatโ€™s what it generally gets called now. kinsellaโ€™s translation is good, as is ciarรกn carsonโ€™s. carsonโ€™s is a bit cheaper and personally i prefer it for general reading because of the style, but kinsellaโ€™s has the big advantage that he includes a bunch of the other stories which relate to the tรกin

another useful book is gantzโ€™s early irish myths and sagas, which includes a bunch of texts from the so-called โ€œulsterโ€ and โ€œmythologicalโ€ cycles (again, modern terms). i would... ignore 99% of what gantz says in his little textual introductions because a lot of it is now quite outdated scholarship, but the translations themselves are solid enough

there are some more texts translated in the celtic heroic age by john carey and john koch but these are more academic translations and donโ€™t really try and smooth over the syntax or any gaps in the manuscript for a modern audience, so thatโ€™s only if youโ€™re really keen

you can also find a lot of the texts in translation at CELT, the Corpus of Electronic Texts (whoever came up with that acronym must have been so proud of themselves) -- these are generally older translations but hey, theyโ€™re free and theyโ€™re online and a lot of them are very accurate, even if that can make them a bit less readable

@finnlongman makes videos about medieval irish lit and has retold several ulster cycle texts on youtube here

hope this helps! you will also find various retellings out there, many of them victorian or early 20th century (lady gregory, eleanor hull etc) but like i said, if you want the texts in their most โ€œaccurateโ€ form, these are the best places to start

[please note that links are amazon uk affiliate links, if you buy via those i get a teeny tiny commission, but actually would advocate supporting your local bookshops if possible, theyโ€™re mostly there for illustrative purposes]

Btw much as I love to make fun of twitter and reddit's business decisions, I have 0% trust in tumblr's management to not go a similar route so this is your gentle reminder that you should regularly go to your blog settings to export your blog. That's a fancy way of saying you can download a backup of your blog so if everything goes down you'll still have a backup of your posts & convos.
