I’m so proud of my little massive himbo weasel!
enough religious spam blaze posts here’s my biggest ferret instead
I love my domesticated twink so much (@xx-k1tsun3-k1d-xx)
The endlessly endearing Mr. Mub Mub, as voiced by the irrepressibly energetic @baronharkonnen (SpeakerD)
I love how genuinely alien the Xenians and other aliens are in half-life, from their biology to their mannerisms to their speech quirks. SpeakerD does a fantastic job of conveying the true alien grasp of social interactions in a way that is both funny and very empathetic.
The species in HL also have some interesting means of making art too, which is what I tried to get at here. I like to think if Mubby wanted to make a self portrait, it would look a little like this.
Kobold burrow, Illustrated!
A kobolds bedding will often be a shared space, albeit a quiet one. There is little privacy in the burrow even so, with their few personal belongings kept in small bags, pots and shelves close to their sleeping shelf. Kobolds will make their bedding with dried stalks & stems, and if cloth is available will readily make use of it. Scaled hides do not require soft furnishing, but cushioning is always valued.
Gently glowing fungi and gems are often kept in the communal dens, illuminating the area just enough to be a comfort and help guide those awake. Scavenging insects will sometimes find their way in to feast upon the discarded scraps of previous meals, and then find themselves part of the next meal the kobolds around inbibe.
Art & graffiti are commonplace in the shared dens, usually depicting the inhabitants in addition to their thoughts and feelings on recent events. Dissenting imagery will appear closer to latrines, approving imagery closer to sleeping areas.
IT IS HOW IT IS.
IT IS HOW IT SHOULD BE.
We never get to see the rest of his body, so I took a little creative liberty to be a little weird and silly with it.
Here's hoping our sad lad stays on the winning team, and has many more brilliant arguments with the biggest of Dee-Dee's.
Kevin, great and mighty, voiced by the amazing @earndiltheequalizer!
The folk over at Ogre Poppenang have the remarkable ability to make a character hilarious one moment, and heartbreaking the next. I think Kevin here is one of my favourites. I hope he survives the series.
Lemme tell ya, making a guy with a nose like a mosquito look forward wasn't easy, but I think I got it in the end.
A heavily Discworld inspired commision made for my good buddy, Grimrat!
I'm still rather chuffed with this one despite it being a year or so old now, and its interesting for how the lineart was pencil and ink scanned in, and the paint was digital.
Art & Crafts, with Illustrations!
Fig 1:
Kobolds are a very kinestetic species; the sense of touch being very important to engage with their art & crafts. Colours are appreciated, but are not as important due to their poor eyesight. A lot of their wearable crafts also server dual function as a fidget toy; helping control the species natural high anxiety and energy when focus is desired.
Fig 2:
a) Statuary and self representation is mostly used in instructional art, and funeral markers. This piece is the latter, and a rare example of a hollow marker with a piece of the owners bones inside.
b) Assorted glass, gem and painted stone beads. Most kobolds will have at least a small collection of interesting small stones, and do not discern precious gems from common stones. As long as it catches the eye, it goes in the bag.
c) Decorated sling shot. Shot from slings will often be re-used if successful in their first conflict, and will be decorated with various iconography to convey their luck or battle prowess. This example depicts "bloody teeth" possibly depicting a kill.
Fig 3:
a) Common storage pot. Pottery is a well practiced skill in Kobold communitys, with labelling often being a primitive braille- allowing important vessels to be found even in the dark.
b) Drinking flute. Due to the misalignment of the top and bottom of this flute it seems that it was an early piece fault by the creator rather than an intentional design choice.
c) Eating plate/low bowl. Kobolds do not require cutlery, as their teeth and claws are often of utility enough during meals. plates and bowls will over time be worn down by a flurry of scratches, requiring new crockery to be made.
My slavic thaumaturge characters very important oven!
I think my favourite thing about drawing stuff I'm unfamiliar with is the rabbit hole you can fall down of learning, both in how to draw the stuff and its history and background. I now know considerably more about eastern european rural home design than I did before!
I haven't thought of a name for the character yet, but I know her Domovoy (house-spirit that lives in the oven) is called Uncle Ugol. You can see him peering out of the stove.
Welcome to british rail. Enjoy your complimentary brick to the groin. that'll be £200.
Agaisnt the storm is a very fun city builder with some really cool lore, one bit of which is the mysterious queen who we never really see- aside from her mask of course.
Tools, with Illustrations!
The first hole a kobold will make is a small burrow in the soft loam or sand. They use their tough nails to dig a hole big enough to sleep in, and hide in. Familys and tribes will make a burrow-village of connected tunnels.
Next the kobold will find a suitable strong rock, one that can be knapped like flint, and they will break a sharp line along one side to give it an edge. This tool can be used and made when there is little to no wood or metal available, and whilst heavy and not the most effective, it can break down materials the kobolds nails cannot or would take months of scratching to achieve.
If metal and wood are available, the kobold can start to make mining and digging tools that humans and dwarves would recognise. Crude and humble they may be, with shafts of bone and heads of scrap copper, but they perform their task well.
The axe, candle and pelt-cloak of my recent slavic witch character! The thaumaturgical impliments she uses to rid the world of evil, be it magical or mundane.
Her mothers axe, a lumberjack with a love of the forest. Made of humble oak and iron, turned to a fearsome weapon in the right hands.
Her fathers candle, a scribe who had a knack for uncovering truth. Now burning as long as the one who holds it.
Her grandfather's pelt, a man first cursed and then blessed by a ursine transformation. Heavy when comforting, light when worn.
Another D&D Character! A slavic Witch inspired by the likes of the Discworld Witches; sometimes local and sometimes nomadic problem solvers. Her class is Thaumaturge with her special impliments being her mothers axe, her fathers candle and her grandfathers skin. (He was a bear, long story)
Art-wise this is about the most effort I’ve put into a digital piece thus far using a drawing screen. I’m happy with everything but the boots and candle-arm. I couldn’t get the angle and placement exactly right, and I figured the piece was better done than held off on. I would have also preferred to give her a more muscular and wide shouldered build, but overall I’m very happy with it!
Someone put the feeling into words!
I can remember playing very early beta/late alpha minecraft. The one where you spawned in a simple wooden house and had to kill sheep to get their wool.
It had such a weird ethereal feel to the gameplay, and now that it’s more of a normal “game” with an end that you can work towards it’s more and more divorced from the feel of it’s original soundtrack.
Also Notch is a cunt, but that goes without saying.
the minecraft nostalgia phenomenon is so odd. like so many people my age have formative memories of being thrown into an oddly empty world for an unfinished game & hearing the occasional ambient piece that was equal parts dinky and profoundly morose. like our mario 1-1 theme is c418 sweden
Thanks for replying! I've always loved the way you can include so much personality and story into a single character image, it reminds me of the best examples in RPG books where they want to depict a character concept or a monster and they just nail it.
Yo! Whats one thing you love drawing and find hard to do, and one thing you hate drawing but can do easily?
Really great question!
I love designing characters and I never get tired of doing it, but it also never really gets easier. I agonize over every little detail, drawing and re-drawing things over and over and pulling up tons of reference images. A fully-inked and colored character usually takes me a whole workday. I'm generally pretty happy with the finished results but I never seem to get any quicker at it haha.
I don't know if there's anything I'm good at drawing that I also hate to draw. I find the act of drawing pleasurable in and of itself. I sometimes find it frustrating when I'm commissioned to do "generic" fantasy or sci-fi illustrations. Like something that's just a "knight" or just a "spaceman" and the client really doesn't want me to riff on the design. I chafe under those kinds of restraints. Not gonna post any example pics because I don't want to offend anyone but it happens lol. Most of my clients are great though and give me a pretty free rein!
Hope this answers your question. If you've got any other questions about art or how I draw or whatever, just send them my way!
Delightful loveloaf!
I always kind of assumed the smith hammered the shards into the bottle after heating it up, not really making it much bigger but more potent.
estus flask upgrade
Experimenting with some stuff on Procreate.
For the longest time I thought Estus was some kind of potion, probably made of undead special juice. Turns out its basically liquid fire of some kind, which explains why it refills at bonfires!
Thanks for replying! this is very useful and I'll try to convert the pen settings you use to one I can plug into Procreate at some point.
Yo! I love your drawing and colouring style and I humbly request to steal your brush settings and colour palettes please.
Answering this ask (with pictures!)
The program I use is IbisPaint X. I really like it because it's free, there are a lot of brushes that you need the full version for, but you can watch an ad to use them for a few hours. It's really good ^_^
I use the Felt Tip Pen (Hard) from sizes ranging from 4-7 depending on the canvas size and vibe
I get the breaks from just, breaking it. But I also sometimes go through and add them after, like if I use rulers.
The color pallet is my Octonauts colors + some other colors I commonly used in my art
Whenever I shade, I use a purple-blue on multiply with opacity at 20-30%, I use red (or blue if it's on blue or green) with an Air Brush around the edges, and highlight with yellow on add
Thanks for reading :-D
I really enjoyed making this and I hoped it helped someone out there (✿^‿^)
As a person who worked in a government office, this really pissed me off. We could all just actually do work until its time to leave each day and therefore get everything done faster for the people of our country whom we are supposed to work for, but they don't assign enough actual stuff to do per person per day if they just did it.
The reason why most government services are slow and clunky is because if I tried to, as an individual, make it run smoother or faster, I get told off or fired. They only want people who can pretend to be busy or toe the line of minimum actual output.
seriously have been thinking about this all night long. call me autistic but the fact that 90% of workplaces the point is not to get your work done and then be done doing it but to instead perform an elaborate social dance in which you find something to do even when you're done doing everything you need to do in order to show your fellow workers that you, too, are Working . because you are at Work . disgusting why cant we all agree that if there is no work immediately to be done. we just dont do anything
@xx-k1tsun3-k1d-xx cool 'Sploon OC, consider the first blow struck!
Team werewolf bay-beeeeeeeeee
Goblin!
Goblins in Dorf Fort have a rough time of it. Their society is cruel to them and Armok knows the players are too. They can often be capable of great things when introduced to society sans all their coded baggage, I've had my fair share of great goblin citizens in my forts.
Made using PetMate, a free PETSCII art maker thing!
(might have to click pic to get rid of any blurryness)
Otto Toppic, Medicated Vampire/Medic
Another D&D OC I made a while back, managed to play her in a game of Sambaroum of all things, quite fun.
Idea behind her is that through great application of SCIENCE and a *lot* of drugs she keeps her vampirism in check. or at least stops her from eating her patients.
"More than a Fool"
BONUS ROUND
Waaaaay back in the Horse Days I made a series of MLP themed posters where the main idea was to not actually show the horses at all -try to keep it a little vague, but still use all their colours and symbols.
I think it came from the idea that some people would like to show their fandom of MLP without the obvious and implicit ponys in it for one reason or another, ergo the posters.
This one is Discord; who was always great fun, shame the VA is a nob.
