Hello again...

Still getting used to how things are on tumblr and how things differ between the computer/browser version and phone app... I suppose that although I see my different blogs connected, there's no direct connection between them for other people viewing tumblr... apparently? If I am following them, then they show up on my "following" list... but even if I "like" the posts, then people won't see them unless they look at my "likes" list, no?

I don't seem to be able to "reblog" something from one of those to here...

So here, I will try out simply doing a couple links to start with...

Here's the tumblr blog for the wip novel mentioned on this blog thing in my first post; scroll down to the intro/synopsis thing if you want a short intro to the story... or just start with the post titled "1.1"

(sort of labeling the story with bits and pieces numbered like it's, "chapter:part" or something like that)

https://www.tumblr.com/blog/bennuma-crossing

and... the blog I mentioned before that is about history and background info for my fantasy world that story takes place in (called Bennuma) that also is for shorts in that world, is found here:

https://www.tumblr.com/blog/legends-of-bennuma

I also mentioned before that I had originally started out using blogger some time ago, have not yet finished putting up everything onto tumblr that I had previously put onto blogger (aka blogspot), so for a limited time (currently) blogger has more on it than tumblr... but mostly I am going to put a couple blogger links here just in case someone might randomly actually have a blogger account and want to follow on there, if anyone likes reading in blogger format (I do intend to keep updating blogger as I update tumblr as well in future, adding new story stuffs as I can) (blogger also contains another beginning of a wip novel thing (working title: Heron) that I am not currently working on, and won't be putting onto tumblr yet, but if anyone wants to poke around and read what's there, it can be found from my blogger profile page)

the Crossing:

(link direct to first post of the Crossing on blogger: )

Legends of Bennuma:

(link direct to first post of the legends blog: )

https://bennumalegends.blogspot.com/2016/11/legends-of-bennuma-as-might-be-told-by.html

D.L. Lane profile (my stuff) on blogger:

Hope what I wrote makes sense, or is at least as clear as............. jello.

Done. Did It.

It has been a very common thing in my life, that the list of things that I need to accomplish on any given day, will far surpass what I am capable of actually accomplishing.

At the end of the day, it's easy for me to get overwhelmed by all the things I hadn't managed to cross off the list, especially when other things that hadn't started out on my list crop up during the day and end up taking place of priority for legitimate reasons.

So, although I may have spent all day keeping busy doing things that needed to be done and having minimal break time, I may have ended up accomplishing almost nothing that was on my list at the beginning of the day.

At such times, I've found it is helpful for me to keep a list of the things I did that day, everything I did accomplish regardless of whether it was on my "To Do" list or not. Seeing my "Done" or "Did it" list at the end of the day can help me feel less like a failure, and focus on the positive-ness of having spent the day accomplishing things that were worth doing.

Worth a try for anyone who may experience some of the same anxieties about never having enough time for everything that needs to be done.

I've been thinking...

hypothetically... if I self-identify as reclusive, and actually start telling people that and own the fact that is part of who I am and suggest that people should accept it as 'normal' for me...

...then am I, in fact, going INTO a 'recluse' closet, rather than coming 'out' of one?

Basically, am I more of a "closet recluse" if I am 'in' the closet about it, or out of it?

(I'm really the same me either way, so I guess that's what matters most.)

Anyway, it just strikes me as funny, the way the semantics look to me in a visually-interpolated way. Wouldn't a closet recluse be someone who pretends not to be, and thus is not hiding in a closet? On the other hand, owning it can be like hiding in a closet, asking people not to open the door?

ok, bye bye (for now)

Read the Fine Print (if you can)

An obscure artist of some sort gains sudden attention and fame from creating a series of new art pieces entirely different from before, with each piece including cryptic markings or symbols of a sort that nobody can decipher and the artist mysteriously declines to comment on.

An old school friend of the artist visits, and the artist tells this friend something that no one else has been told: the artist does not know what the symbols are, because all of the new art pieces were made while under the influence of something the artist says is "like absinthe, but not" ...and the artist afterwards can never remember anything that happened for the entire night after drinking it.

The artist agrees to let the old friend stay over and do an experiment, wherein the idea is that the friend would keep out of the way until the artist got to the point of putting the cryptic symbols on a new art piece, and then come out and ask the artist what they mean. They are hoping that the artist will be able to give an answer at that time, and then the next day, the friend can tell back to the artist what the answer was.

So they go to a very strange shop in a remote area and buy a bottle of the drink that has no name and where the shopkeeper always acts like it's the first time the artist has been there, in spite of being a very regular customer by now. That night, the friend sits someplace hidden but with a view of the entire room, and prepares to watch and wait while the artist plans to drink the drink and spend the night making art...

...and is surprised to find that when the artist takes the first drink, it's actually a potion that summons someone or something, that plans to possess the artist. However, becoming aware that there's someone else hiding in a corner of the room, things take a different turn.

(post a reply if you have any fun ideas about what might happen... or if you play with making a short story of this, please do make a mention of it so I can read it)

A Note:

This blog is something of both background and introduction to the (fictional) (fantasy) world of Bennuma, to contain things such as historical notes, facts, legends, fables, myths, or other sorts of stories or longstanding traditional tales, as told from the point of view of people from the world of Bennuma.

Less of an exhaustive compendium and more like a selection of excerpts pulled from various sources and abridged, translated, or otherwise compiled into what is hopefully a beginner-friendly form.

To begin with, and until otherwise noted, this blog is to be written from the point of view of Hadimer, someone who was in many ways one of the most notable scholars in the later ages of a particularly significant Life of the world of Bennuma, writing during what later would be designated as the time of the IceGem.

Also note, Bennuma is what can be called a Phoenix World, which means that it literally is destroyed and remade from time to time and in between these destructions, each is referred to as a different Life of the world, or WorldLife. Some are very different in many ways, though it is the same world and many things will be the same. Some WorldLives are very similar to each other, having very similar things happen at similar points in the Life of the world. Note that these cannot properly be considered to be parallels, because they aren't happening at the same time in different universes (nor can one expect to find parallel versions of the same people, etc.) but it literally is the same planet re-made, in the same place of the same universe, only at a different point in time. (it's not a sci-fi multiverse parallel worlds thing) (nor can one expect individuals to be re-incarnated into parallel versions of themselves or any other form, from one WorldLife to the next... that's a thing for other worlds, not this one. In the rare instances where anyone might come back to life, it won't be via re-incarnation... and even if it looks like an exception where it might be re-incarnation, it technically isn't... unless it is an exception to the exception and really is, but that would be something that would never happen... unless it might if there were one exception to it, but even then, it might not really be that after all.)

The Crossing WIP novel

...got the last section of what I currently consider as chapter 1 of The Crossing WIP fantasy novel up now, over in my @bennuma-crossing blog... if you haven't seen it yet, there's sort of an info thing pinned at the top, and then 7 sections (not whole chapters, more like scenes or parts of scenes, depending on how you see it) 1.1 - 1.7 which I am calling "chapter 1"

It's taking place in a fantasy world of my own creation, though currently set in a part of the world where there's almost no magic. (Also, btw, it's relatively early in the history of that world, though there would have been a lot of important historical events that happened previously... think of how on Earth there was such a thing as relatively early in "recorded history" but which was a time period after there had already been a looooooong stretch of time before recorded history in which really quite a lot had happened all over the world... including some of which might have been recorded but subsequently lost)

Reminder: I also have a blog that has more info about the world of Bennuma and history of it and such, @legends-of-bennuma ...I do plan to add more to that at some point of both shorts and general information, but for now plan to put more time into writing chapter 2 of the Crossing, so... no promises about when there will be more of the legends stuff.

Fairy Tales

Oldschool Fairy Tales from pre-industrial times: "These are cautionary stories for all ages, and also reminders that sometimes life is terrible for no good reason at all, or just makes zero sense."

Fairy Tales from the 1900s: "These are kids' stories where we try to teach that everything in life has meaning and moral lessons, and that if you work hard, believe in yourself, and are basically a good person, then you WILL be successful in life."

Me now: "The oldschool nonsense tales had it right, and basically all the other stuff is a lie."

(To be fair, I do believe that people should work hard, should believe in themselves, and should be basically good people because those are things that make life tolerable... I'm just convinced now that doing those things is no guarantee of success and that "anyone who says differently is selling something"

Fairy Tales

...also, I think it's weird when people make edits that seem to suggest that statement is in any way inspirational. It's not 'inspiring', it's just realism. It may be comforting sometimes to know that life is terrible for a lot of people out there and even if a person's suffering is unique to them, they're still not the only one suffering... but to act like that's uplifting in some way is weird to me.)

Learning more tumblr and I find it's weird how the phone app and computer/browser versions work differently...

I usually post things from the computer because that's where I copy writing from, but I tend to look at other things on the phone and like or follow from the phone more often than the computer...

So how about instead of copying links like I did on a previous post, I will offer this:

The Crossing WIP novel found here:

And Legends of Bennuma history and shorts:
