Van Helsing and the Suitor Squad: "Depressing, but sure, absolutely."

Mina: "Me? Vampire me?"

Jonathan, making unbroken eye contact with the four guys who just promised to behead and impale his wife if she stops being human enough: "I guarantee there will be killing involved if Vampire You happens."

Jonathan Harker is dead.

The official cause given by police was that he leaned too far out of a high-up window and fell. There are multiple witnesses that can testify to this, but that doesn’t stop the rumors that Count Dracula himself was responsible.

His body is brought back to England the same day the Demeter crashes on shore.

A few months later, Mina finds Jonathan’s journal inside the coat he died in. She reads it, horrified, and turns it over to the doctors examining her friend Lucy’s strange illness.

Van Helsing and Seward, after reading the journal and the supernatural death of Lucy, know what they have to do.

Dracula leaves for Transylvania once more, but not before attacking Mina. She, Seward, Arthur, Van Helsing, and Quincey follow with the intention to put an end to the vampire.

Seward fears one of Dracula’s brides spotted the group while they snuck into Castle Dracula, so they evacuate immediately. While leaving, Mina could have sworn she caught a glimpse of a familiar face…

So that’s my Dracula AU! A concept at least. I got the idea while listening to the song “I Know Those Eyes/This Man is Dead” I HIGHLY suggest giving it a listen!

Dracula Fandom's Own Secret Santa

I've been sitting on this idea for a while and I think it's finally time for us to have our own Secret Santa game this winter! No matter if you celebrate Christmas or not, I am calling all Dracula enthusiasts to create a wonderful gift for another lovely gift in return.

Here's how the game works: firstly with this post I will see around how many people will be interested in participating, and if it's worth going forwards. Then, we move onto the form where you let us know what you can bring to the game (fanfic, fanart, voice acting, video, etc), and what you would like to receive in return (same contents).

I will be making a discord server to keep everyone in contact and to announce dates etc. (discord will be needed, though I will be setting dates here on Tumblr too.)

Around the middle of November you will receive the username of the person you are making a gift for, and what they're interested in, and the gift will be wanting to be finished around the 25th December, though it will likely be after Christmas day (maybe early January). Fanfic is to be posted on ao3 and gifted to the person or on Tumblr with tagging them. Everything else on Tumblr with tags.

I positively adore how both Mina and Jonathan think of each other in their journal/letters. Distance may separate them, but they are always on each other’s minds. A recipe for her, practice for him. To be of use to the other. To capture what the other isn’t experiencing. A point of connection for the two who are so far apart. A way of saying that the world is beautiful and fascinating and I want to share it with you

my favourite thing about 'Dracula' is how Mina Harker is the cleverest strongest icon out there: girly can write shorthand, learn train timetables by heart, keep a diary daily (my procrastinating arse could never), retype and organise a ton of written information AND a literal audio diary in like a day (????), and deduct the randomest niche stuff like it's nothing?? QUEEN behaviour period. Which is why, while I definitely love the cinematography and the cast in the 1992 film adaptation, the plot absolutely pissed me off. Of course the og misogyny in the novel was very unnerving and impossible to ignore (for me personally) but I bet even Mr Stoker himself would have had a stroke if he'd seen the way they reduced Mina's character to a mindless girl obsessing over the count. Tbh some ooc fanfiction I've read had more 'in character' figures than whatever the hell happened to Mina. Which is fine as an artistic interpretation of the og material I guess but explicitly calling the film 'Bram Stoker's Dracula'-- the audacity lol. The vibes were on point though very reminiscent of the book

I've been reading Dracula lately and I've noticed that the main cast of characters are all not very bright people, except for Madam Mina and sometimes Dracula. Like they all have one braincell and Mina doesn't share it, but sometimes the old vampire manages to steal it for a bit.

This is a Gothic Romance - October 11, Dracula

After everyone makes the promise to Mina about her death, Jonathan asks her:

"Must I also make that promise, my wife?" Mina answers him (this part brings tears to my eyes every time I read it) "You too, my love. And you must not hesitate. You are the one I love most, you are my world. Our souls are united forever and ever, for eternity. Remember, my love, the brave men who in times past killed their wives so that they would not fall into enemy hands. Their hands remained steady, for the women themselves begged to be killed. It is a man's duty, in turbulent times, to those he loves! And, my love, if I must be killed, may it be by the hands of the one who loves me most. (…) If that time comes, I count on Mr. "Van Helsing" to ensure that my husband will keep for the rest of his life the happy memory of having been the one to free me from this terrible curse."

The climax of the scene is when he asks Jonathan to recite the Office of the Dead as a way of keeping his beloved's voice in his memory:

"I would like you to do this for me, my love, because I will carry with me forever the memory of your voice, no matter what happens!"

Could Jonathan be the first potential literary character for the "I would die for her" topic? I swear I have no idea of ​​any classics older than "Dracula" that had a character in his full consciousness take such an action as Harker did for Mina.

Me and @starlitartworks discussed this, and we both agree: In a universe where Dracula is meant to look like this-

Jonathan Harker is allowed to be sexy. It is possible to be devastatingly attractive and a total nerd at the same time. Stop making Dracula sexier than Jonathan so she'll choose the monster who assaulted her instead of the guy who adores her more than life itself. Give Jonathan the good looks instead.

I know it's early and that our good friend Jonathan Harker has already arrived in Bistrita, but does anyone have a JonMina playlist? I want to be prepared for when our couple meets again :)

Dracula Returns

I don't know if you've heard the latest news, but it looks like Dracula is going to return to cinema screens, I just saw on my phone that it will be produced by Luc Besson in partnership with Christoph Waltz. I'm shaking, anxious and afraid of repeating the same rereading from 92, I understand those who like the material, but I really wanted a version closer to what is actually covered in the book. My couple JonMina as an ardent couple that they are, Renfield without stereotypes, Lucy without the tremendous sexualization, Dracula as manipulative and megavillain and without romanticizing him as if he were innocent of something, Van Helsing without his caricatured and even exaggerated format, etc.

and honestly, on all sites it only shows the version of a Dracula wanting to find his wife lost in eternity, please show us the story as it truly is! Why distance yourself so much?!

Above all, and from the bottom of my heart, I hope it is at least a good adaptation.
