TBH I Could totally see this happening đ
Y/n signed as she paced around her living room, stressing about the meeting with all of her friends this afternoon. {flashback to monday} Crowley had finally gotten off his lazy butt and found her a way home, âI'll give you until next monday to decide, and to say goodbyeâ Crowley said as he waved y/n out of his office. As y/n stood outside his door, her mind was racing so many thoughts ran through her head, she had just been adopted by crewel only a few days ago and she hadn't told anyone yet. Y/n slowly walked to her fathers classroom, even though it's her choice and she has her heart set on one answer she would still like her fathers opinion. After a few minutes y/n had found herself infront of her fathers classroom door, before slowly reaching up to knock on the door. âEnterâ her fathers voice said behind the classroom door, which she slowly opened the door and stepped in before shutting the door behind her silently âah hello pup! I was going to track you down after I got done grading these tests, I want to take you shopping!â Crewel said with a smile as he looked up from the paper he was grading, y/n pulled up a chair âpapa i need to talk to you about a conversation Crowley and I just hadâ y/n said as she sat down â Do i need to get violent with a crow?â crewel asked putting his pen down, y/n laughed slightly before shaking her head ânot today papaâ y/n replied Crewel turned his chair to face his daughter he gently took her hands in his âwhatâs wrong pup?â Crewel asked his voice filled with concern y/n took a deep breath before speaking âCrowley found a way for me to go back to my world, heâs giving me until next monday to decideâ Y/n felt Crewel freeze up she looked up at her father to see his gray eyes wide and started to fill up with tears. Crewel lowered his head âthe choice is yours iâll be happy for you no matter what.â Crewel spoke with a shaky voice. âDad I have a week to decide I'm not going to tell my friends until Sunday but-â y/n started before leaning and whispering into crewel's ear. Crewel gasped tears falling from his eyes before hugging her tightly. {end of flashback}
The week went by like normal y/n went to unbirthday partys, Spelldrive tournaments, helping out at the Mostro Lounge, helping jamil prepare for parties kalim threw, suffering with epel as Vil rants as rook chuckles behind them, gaming with Idia,Ortho and Lilia, Pranking sebek with ace and grim, falling asleep beside silver under a random tree, and late night walks with malleus. Sunday had finally came around faster than y/n was ready for but today was the day so y/n had gone around to all of her friends telling them to come by the ramshack tonight at 5pm, telling them it was very important and EVERYONE needed to be there.
Grim yelling y/ns name had brought her out of her thoughts ây/n! Henchmen someone at the door!â grim yelled y/n quickly went to the door and opened it seeing everyone heck even Idia was here in person âYall came!â y/n smiled as she opened the door wider as she stepped aside welcoming everyone in âof course shrimpy!â Floyd said as he picked her up and brought her in for a tight hug y/n laughed as floyd carried her to the living room as everyone else followed in close pursuit. Soon everyone was seated in the living room looking at y/n who was standing in the middle of the room âso child of man Iâm happy to be included, but why have you called us here all of a sudden?â Malleus asked y/n sighed âok i have something important to tell all of you but i need you all to promise to stay quiet until i am done ok?â y/n said looking at all her friends Everyone nodded agreeing with her terms y/n took a deep breath before looking at all her friends before starting to speak âso on monday crowley called me into his office and he had told me he had found a way for me to go home and he gave me until monday aka tomorrow to make my decisionâ everyone froze and stared at y/n with wide eyes âI didnât want to stress anyone out so i didnât tell anyone about it, i wanted this week to be normal.â y/n had sat down beside a tearful grim âand i wanted you all here to hear what i had decidedâ y/n said looking at her friends everyone was looking down ready to be heartbroken âIâm staying hereâ y/n said with a smile âWAIT WHAT?!â Everyone yelled y/n laughed âProfessor Crewel and I had this conversation on Monday grim and I will be living with him because he had adopted me last friday.â y/n said hugging grim âi already wanted to stay here i guess i just needed more of a secret push from you allâ y/n said ace got up and walked over to her âYou jerk! You worried everyone!â ace growled as he punched y/n in the arm y/n just laughed. Everyone was happy y/n was staying, everyone took turns hugging y/n. She was staying in twisted wonderland because of them.
Heartslabyul Dorm & Savanaclaw {some are short some arent}Â {Riddle, Trey, Cater, Leona, and Ruggie)
Y/n has been at NRC for a while and she's never hugged anyone (besides grim) until today. Y/n took in a deep breath before walking out the door of the ramshackle dorm with grim on her shoulder. {ps y/n is pudgy since thats what i am)
Riddle Rosehearts: HUG!THIS!BOY! (pt2) This boy is hella touch starved (mrs. rosehearts me trey and Che'nya just want to talk with bats) ribble froze up almost as stiff as a tree before he slowly melted into y/ns arms. The warm y/n gave off made him feel safe in her hold. He stayed in her arms for a good minute before slowly backing away from her âthank you for the hug y/n but next time tell me i don't want to accidently collar you in a panicâ riddle said straightening his tie y/n nodded before walking off.
Trey clover: Trey gives off the vibes that he doesnât like to be touched so heâs one of the few y/n would ask before suddenly hugging. Trey was baking some tarts (surprise surprise) when y/n walked âafternoon y/n how are you this evening?â trey asked as he put the tray into the oven âiâm good i just had a quick question to ask you if thatâs all rightâ y/n started as she played with the end of her shirt. Trey looked at her as he whipped his hands off âof course you can! Is someone messing with you?â trey asked in his big brother voice y/n just chuckled slightly before shaking her head no âNo big brotherâ she started with a tease which trey smiled before waiting for her to continue with her question âi wanted to ask if i could hug you. Nothings wrong! Iâm just in a hugging moodâ y/n said trey was shocked before chuckling âof course!â he said with a smile holding his arms out y/n was shocked for a second before smiling and quickly ran into his arms. He smelled like pastries and his hug was nice and softly tight. âDonât ever be afraid to ask me for a hug just make sure iâm not holding anything before the hug thoughâ he said with a smile as he pulled away y/n nodded before running off.
Cater Diamond: To find him just go to his live and there you go heâs sitting in the garden. Once y/n got to cater he just turned off the live and the next thing cater knew someone was hugging him. Cater looked down to see y/n which made him smile brightly before hugging her back âthank you y/n i really needed thatâ he whispered. Before cater could pull away Y/n took out her phone and smiled as she took a picture of them still hugging. âHere you go. Donât post it till tomorrow thoughâ y/n said as she sent the picture to him he nodded before walking off. Cater smiled before pulling out his phone and pulling up the picture.
Leona Kingscholar: Bold of you but also hug this lion. He just getting up in botanical garden when he heard y/n coming towards him â herbivoreâ he said looking at y/n as she got closer to him, a soon as her arms wrapped around him he grunted, he looked down at her before wrapping one arm over her âhow bold of you herbivore to run into the arms of a carnivore. You best be prepared for it allâ he voice filled with smugness âbring it lazy bonesâ y/n said with a smile looking up at him. Leona huffed âmaybe later iâm still sleepyâ as he let her go and walked away but for the rest of the day leona was in a better mood.
Ruggie Bucchi: Be warned he might try to steal your wallet or food as a joke (95% of the time). Ruggie was just leaving sams shop when y/n suddenly came up to him and hugged him. At first he thought he was getting robbed then relaxed it was y/n âwhat was that for? I was about to bite you! Warn me next time!â ruggie huffed with a pout y/n just laughed before putting a chocolate donut in his mouth (where did the donut come from? magic). Y/n handed ruggie the donuts before running off ruggie just smiled and shock his head he never refused free food explicitly donuts and explicitly from one of his friends.
How bout a second part to the angsty floyd and jade hcs? Like after some time they realize they are indeed in love with reader but they have moved on, maybe how would the twins try to win them back if thats not too much đđ
Of course darling!! Today we are on a love mood, lets see what these eels have on their heads!!
If you don't know their are asking for a second part of this
Jade Leech
It was hard for him to realize this, since he was the one who insisted so much on you being boring to him.
But your sweetests memories goes back to haunt him day and night. Even he finds himself following shadows that look alike your figure on Octavinelle. Or looking you in the campus.
One night he couldn't sleep he realised this; He had never stop falling in love from you.
Even if you were "boring" he still loved you. Maybe he had to talk about it, say how he felt after breaking up with you.
Then so, the day after this, he goes to talk with you after your classes, but he finds another picture he didn't like...
You were hanging around with your friends like normal, but Deuce and you looked different. And then he noticed how he looked at you and took your hand.
There was someone in love with you. Even if he was right there to apologize, a little flower bouquet in hand, you didn't mind.
âJade, you don't have to. I understand now, the relationship was something stopping you... We can be friends!â
Those words break his heart in pieces.
Maybe this was.. what you felt when he said you were boring... And even so, you forgive him...
He left the bouquet with you and walked away.
You were going to love him. If this feelings are still on you and not in that Deuce.
His smooth way to win your heart is easy! He becomes your friend again and gift you sweet things that makes you remember the sweet times with him. He compliments you more and decided to talk more with you. Taking note of everything you say. Attentive to you like he used to be.
One day he gave you a small mushroom trinket. It had your favorite color! And then, he admitted everything.
âY/n, i may not be in the place to ask for a second chance, but let me talk. I never stopped loving you, i was such a horrible boyfriend for what i have done. I don't expect you to come back to my arms, yet you have given me only forgiveness. Thank you for that. If you still feel the same... My arms are open.â
If you hug him and cry, saying that this is all you wanted, he will promise to be a better boyfriend, talking his feelings instead of acting like an animal!- Or Floyd!
If you reject him, he will accept it and try to move on to became your best pal ever. Maybe you two are better as friends and staying like this isn't a bad option :)
Probably supports you on your Deuce relationship if you go after him.
Floyd Leech
He still tought he didn't like you anymore. He was in totally denial since he didn't think of you as entertaining.
But oh boy, he tought of you every second of the day. Soon his normal activities always had Floyd saying this line;
âIf y/n was here they would do this and that...â
Yeah, he think of what would you do when he was just drinking water or training in the basketball club.
The imagines of you supporting him and helping him stood with him, and soon, he found himself loving you like always.
Guess little shrimpy never bored him, huh.
The moment he realised this, he jumped to get you two back together but..
He found you hanging around with your friends like usual, laid down in the grass and looking at the sky while saying stupid things. But the person that looked you in a different way, like with almost heart eyes, was Ace.
He was at your side, hand by hand, he didn't like this at all. He stood besides you two and talked.
âHeh, crab, get away from what is mine, shoo shoo i have to talk with little shrimpy hereâ
You two looked in confusion but you took the word
âFloyd, it's okay. I get it. Our relationship was boring and got nowhere. I don't feel bad right now, i kinda left it in the past. We can be friends!â
WHAT WAS THAT BULLSHIT??? HUH??? EXCUSE ME???
He looks so confused specially when you still talk with that stupid crab about helping him study. YOU SHOULD HELP HIM, NOT THAT USELESS CRAB.
He lefts the place and decided to get help from Azul and Jade. They say how to get your heart back but he just takes what he thinks is useful.
So at the next day in class you encounter a small gift very bad wrapped and a note that was obviously from Floyd. You take it not even opening, but putting it on your backpack. Floyd sees this as a fail.
So he still try it. Going full speed hugging you, leaving you gift, talking bad about Ace and you being a "couple" and being so damn OBVIOUS.
In the end, you take him to talk about his temper these days.
Like fr one day you saw Ace flying far away from a kick that Floyd gave him wtf.
So he confessed;
âWell, well, shrimpy~ Thing is, you aren't boring anymore. I noticed that little shrimpy can be boring sometimes, but even in those moments, i still see little shrimpy as a beautiful partner! What i mean, is that maaaaybe we can be together again, if shrimpy wants so~ But, really. I still like you.â
Now, if you accept him and hug him, he will laugh and hug back as tight as he can; He makes up to you by treating you like his best "toy". Taking you everywhere in his shoulder. Of course you two talked about it more seriousness!!! And he apologized in the Floyd-style. But he did.
But, if you say that you prefer him as a friend and you really feel something for Ace.... He will not take it very well.
He will become aggressive and silent, he will criticize every part of that stupid crab and how he will eat it. You walk away in terror of his eyes and his words.
He wouldn't talk to you again, not even to pass the page.
Probably you talk to him and if he's behaving well, he accept into being friends. If not, you two just... Drift apart.
A little sad here huh
Hope you liked this answer!!! It was very funny to write it! I loved it lol Request more once the request box is open again
â Rose
Rip out my heart and stomp on it. Hcs with the leech twins (separately) getting bored of their s/o and just telling it straight to their face. Angst angst angst
OHHHH IM READY FOR THIS FUCKING ANGST. LETS FUCKING GO.
Jade Leech
Your personality was kinda boring as now.
You didn't react to their sudden plans and appearings. It seems like you are okay with them.
Now your rambles just feel like hearing Azul cry over money wasted.
He sighs everytime he is with you and this slowly makes you insecure. So you try to change the subject or hearing him.
Obviously he planned this all along but...
Even your reaction was boring.
One time he stand up from his seat and left you there.
This one day come to an end. When you asked him, with a trembling voice, what happened. He answered.
âHm. Its easy. You don't please me anymore. You are boring. Your thoughts are boring, your voice is boring, your reactions are boring. I can already know what you gonna think and what you gonna do. This relationship has become more boring than i thought. I think it may come to an endâ
This.... Really hurt you. You stand there with tears falling from your eyes and tried to say something, but your voice was taken away.
âEven this reaction was predictable. You disappointed me, human. I prefer to even stay and hear Floyd complaining about his old shoes.â
And so, he left. No expression on her face. And don't even caring that you were crying out his name and on your knees.
You tought he was gonna be more gentleman-like because of his personality? You foolish human. He even tried to enjoy this. But he couldn't. He only feel pity
Floyd Leech
Different from Jade, he is so straight forward.
He doesn't find funny your reactions or your clingy attitude towards him. It just seems like he already tested everything from you and you only were bones in a plate.
He avoids you forgetting completely that you two were on a relationship. Even if you search for him he just finds you annoying and tell you to leave.
Slowly you feel Floyd become distant and something was off. So you decided to go confront him at the Mostro Lounge.
He was there passing the time when you asked what was wrong, and then...
âHuh? Little shrimpy? I tought i left you for good~â
What?
âWell, its veeeery easy to explain, shrimpy. You started to get boring. Very boring. Like, you didn't screamed when seeing me! And you even tried to hug me. It was not funny~ so i just decided to leave you. Like, never getting together. I tought you understood, seems like i have to tell you: Im. Bored. Of. You. Hehehe.â
You started shaking and crying, don't knowing what to do.
Everyone at the Mostro Lounge was there hearing you and whispering about you and him, probably talking bad about you or feeling pity.
âNow get lost shrimpy. You are being annoying in my job...â
And so you left slowly, while holding back tears and shaking.
But Floyd didn't even flinch. He just played with a drink Azul gave him.
This request was so funny and easy to write!! I love it, hope this pleases you ^^
pls can you give us some fem chubby reader hcs? thank you so much and i hope you will have all the ssrs you wish đ„șđ
+ Since this request and the others feel similar for me, I combined them into one! Also I haven't written anything for a long time, wwww. All NRC students are involved in here. +
Gentle, chubby fem reader. Also used 'thicc' as a synonym for chubby.
Not beta read.
Your unique looks and gentle demeanor are what initially draws them to you. Your gentle voice is the exact opposite of his nagging mother, and your chubby body just radiates warmth, that's why perhaps Riddle seeks your company out, albeit secretly. He doesn't want you to know your praises are soothing to his ears.
Cater initially wanted to tease you, but a quick pout in his direction got the son of the Diamond family trembling on his knees. Oh, you're the very definition of cute, you're adorable, for even if he doesn't like 'cute' things, you're an exception.
You always wondered why Trey brings you baked goods. Cakes, brownies, red velvets, anything he bakes he will give it to you. You voiced out your insecurity once that you'll gain weight, but Trey is quick to reassure you with the gentle caresses of his big hands on your waist that you look absolutely beautiful.
If you meet Deuce when he's in his delinquent phase, then perhaps he would bully you because of bad peer influence, but he is now a changed man. He is a supportive friend and loves it when he can feel your presence with him, you just radiate a warmth that he cannot explain. Once you hugged him, as a sign of your affection, his face pressed into your plump chest, Deuce exploded into a stuttering, blushing mess.
Oh dear, when Ace saw you hugging Deuce, he is quick to be on your side, exasperatedly asking why can't you do that to him too. It's unfair, y'know? He's one of the people to first befriend you! Tsk. Ace's hands will always hover over you as if resisting the urge to touch you everywhere. Once you hugged Ace, his face pressed on your soft chest, he'll sigh and sent Deuce an arrogant, victory smirk. Just like that, chaos will ensue.
Beastmen loves meat, and prefer meat over bones. You always wonder if somehow, Leona will eat you. The Prince of the Sunset Savannah always shamelessly rakes his eyes over your form. Lashes fluttering as he looks at you up and down. Frankly, it made you insecure, because why would he do this? The answer will come in the way he would grab you in the Botanical garden, making you plop on the ground as he put his head on your thighs, acting as his pillow. Leona will never tell you, but your softness and gentleness always lull him into his much-needed sleep, also, he may or may not accidentally grope your tiddies. What? Feline creatures like him are fascinated by round things.
Ruggie is fascinated with you, you look so plump, so cute, and he adores it. You're kind to him too, always sharing your food with him, and with your gentle demeanor, you never raised your voice unprovoked. Pet him once and Ruggie turns into an obedient hyena ready to act on your command.
He will never tell, but you make Jack nervous. He can't help it! You once sat behind him and absentmindedly grabbed his fluffy tail as he saw you pressed it into your cheeks, and Jack almost had a heart attack. He loves the way you're so plump it makes him want to protect you with his muscular form.
Azul once ask if you wanted a piece of diet advice, out of the good of his own heart, or maybe not. You can't tell if he's being serious, but if you accept it or decline, Azul is still quick to praise your efforts while accepting that land creatures have different body types. Besides he prefers you're plumpness, it makes him feel something. He is quite concerned, and he won't tell but he fears that you'll get bullied too. You reassure him that you're alright. Once Azul caught wind of a student who throws unexpected backhanded compliments in your way, said student ended up at the bottom of the barrel. Fear not, Azul will offer you a contract that will make you require his protection. And no, it's not his excuse to make you rely on him because it feeds his ego. No, Azul will deny it, yet his tentacles coming alive is the opposite indication.
If you crave something and somehow it ends up in front of you, Jade is most likely the mastermind behind it. Don't you know that eels love soft things? A hand on your thigh, gently squeezing as you sat beside him, or a caress of your waist as Jade hovers over you. One time Jade is wiping the glasses when you leaned over the countertop, your full and bouncy chest pressing over the bar, tired and out of your wits, you let out a satisfying yawn. Mouth wide open as you tried to fight your drowsiness. Only to jerk up in surprise at the sound of glasses breaking. Alert, you saw Jade smiling at you, yet his eyes are closed. "Please don't worry, I just had to release the tension somewhere else," Jade said as he pats your head. Though you're confused, you let that one slide even though you saw fragments of glasses in his hand. Tsk, you have no idea just what you do to poor Jade, don't you?
You can't figure out Floyd, he's an enigma. But if there's one thing he loves, it's squeezing the life out of your body. "You're so soft," Floyd would lovingly sigh, resting his head on your shoulder, as you're entangled in his arms. One of his famous mood swings came with a peculiar request, he ask you to squeeze his head using your thighs. Of course, you declined, that is embarrassing! Bad take, Floyd looms over your body as he tried to intimidate you. It can only go on one thing: When you decline Floyd would forcefully part your legs, then will lovingly wrap them around his neck. Making you get stuck in an awkward, shameless position with him. You're a mess because your thighs are choking him! And yet, you just can't find it in your heart to reprimand the clingy and moody eel.
Kalim is a ray of sunshine, and you will always find yourself hugging the little man. His face brightens as you return his affection. And he, for some reason, likes to bury his face on your chest. If Kalim is feeling sad, you're the first person he'll go to. Please comfort him, put his head lovingly on your chest and he will be in a good mood again.
It's peculiar the way Jamil seeks your attention. At one-moment he'll treat you like how he treats everyone else, then the next he will put an arm on your thigh, absentmindedly caressing as you sat beside him at one of Scarabia's party. You heard Jamil humming once, and goodness, his voice is utterly angelic that you can't help but coo and throw praises in his way. That day, unbeknownst to you, Jamil is blushing hard under his hoodie basking in your body warmth and kindness. Praise him more, will you?
With you're physique, you're at odds with Vil. A model who sought to be the fairest of them all. Most often than not, Vil will recommend diet regimens, telling you to exercise more and whatnot, sometimes he comes off as arrogant and nagging, much like Azul. It is quite exhausting dealing with him, yet once you truly show Vil that you love your body, then he will leave you alone. Vil supposes that there's a charm in your chubby physique. He found himself wondering what it feels like to be the center of your affection seeing that you can only gently reprimand him, and you return his rude gestures with kindness. Oh, potato, you're too good for their world. Yet, those are just wandering thoughts for the Vil Schoenheit, but he will stand up for you if one of his acquaintances, from the industry or the school, insults you, he won't tolerate it. That person will get fired the very next day or will face the wrath of the most beautiful man in the world.
Your relationship with Rook is really interesting. The Hunter will love chasing you! And it just creeps you out a tiny bit when he found out your exact measurements. Expect hugs from him, from behind, from the front. You wonder if it's his hands you feel ghosting over your ass, but not outright touching inappropriately. You will find random poems about you, and how you're the goddess of fertility, ah, the typical hunter.
Epel will go crazy about your shape. Women in their village are quite fleshy, and Epel loves your curves. You have a busty chest, plump thighs, and a rounded butt, what more can he ask for? You're the perfect one for this manly man. Just pay attention to him, m'kay? Don't call him cute, or you will find yourself succumbing to his deadly cuteness.
Idia is losing sleep over you. You praise him, saying that you love his hair. You're kind, you don't push him out of his comfort zone, and above all of that? You're 'thicc af' for him. You caught him staring at you for quite a while, and when you told him that, Idia's hair quickly went up in red flames, and he's running back inside his room. Gosh, he's losing his mind! Ffs! He dropped his tablet when he realized that his search history includes... quite vulgar, peculiar searches about anime characters with chubby body shapes like you. Man, Idia wouldn't mind if you choked him with your thicc thighs. Idia almost slammed his head on his table, Damn, he's down bad for you.
Faeries love fertile things. With your busty chest, wide hips, thick thighs, and a plump butt, you're body is the definition of fertility, perfect for bearing a child. Malleus doesn't care at first, he could not help but scoff as you shyly hide your plump body away from him. You can't help the insecurity simmering in your belly, like Vil, Leona, and even Idia, Malleus is just too good-looking, and he's tall too. The Prince of Fae will remind you just how desirable you look, though it's just a shame you always miss his remarks about how truly he adores your body. You also have a gentle demeanor, much like how one would associate the shape of round with kindness, you have no sharp edges to your personality. As your friendship deepens, Malleus finds comfort in your warmth, especially when you hug him and caressed his head. Just don't let your hands wander too much it ends up on his horns, or you will find a possessive dragon hovering above you in your bed.
For some reason, Lilia always ends up pressing his tiny head over your chest. This little old faerie will excitedly float above you, then will accidentally land on your boobs. His face squished between your two mounds. You eventually get used to it, and you can't help but feel that Lilia is treating you like a... teddy bear, with how much he loves to hold your body. Lilia tells you it's because, in Briar Valley, the fae race doesn't have many interesting body shapes like yours, they're all slender and tall, or small and quite thin, choosing to display that even though they have the power to change forms anyway. Don't be insecure! Lilia wonders how would your thighs look like with a bite mark on them.
Sebek is bursting red, literally. Human! How dare you have such a voluptuous figure that looks delicious to the eyes of fae?! Every time he talks to you, he needs to focus on your face, but it's like Sebek wants to smack himself for staring at your busty chest instead. He will randomly scream once he finds out how much he wishes to lay his head on your thighs.
For Silver, you're the perfect pillow. Please don't get him wrong, Silver adores your softness. Your big boobs are the perfect pillows for him, as with your thighs. Rest his head on your chest, as you play with his hair and he will fall asleep within seconds, your gentle heartbeat lulling him to peacefulness. And if Silver catches people bad-mouthing your appearance? He will wake up, and defend you like the knight in shining armor that he is.

*BANGS ON TABLE* HELLO MAY I GET SOME HCS WHERE THE POMEFIORE TRIO WITH A FEM!S/O THATS BASED OFF OF GANYU PRETTY PLEASE đłđ„đłđ„đłđ„đłđ„đłđ„
Good luck to the Ganyu wanters! May you all be Ganyu havers~
Pomefiore | Female reader | Headcanons
Vil is constantly worried about her health. She works day and night, and accepts her workload no matter how ridiculous they may seem. Itâs no wonder that Crowley depends on her so much to keep the school in order, and Vil finds himself stepping in more often than heâd like to force her to rest. Seriously, he thinks that he might be losing precious sleep fretting over her getting enough sleep herself.
He initially didnât understand what she meant when she told him that sheâs worried she might not be able to control herself around the wild dandelions growing around the campus. Isnât it natural to be attracted to flowers? So imagine his shock when he came across his darling chewing on raw dandelions in the sports field. He immediately strode over to her and smacked her back repeatedly, forcing her to spit them out. If she wants to eat dandelions that badly, then she should just tell him so he can whip up a plate of fresh spring salad for her!
Vil thought that she was a fae at first because of her black horns. Theyâre strikingly similar to Malleusâ that he even believed they were relatives, and he may or may not have been afraid of approaching her in the beginning.
Oh, sheâs such a sweet soul that every day he feels blessed to be with someone so understanding. With her gentle disposition, she never once said anything or treated him in a way that made him feel like a villain. Perhaps he could be the Prince Charming in her story, and stand at the centre of her attention until the very end.
Despite her unconditional kindness, Vil could sense the loneliness she radiates. She has admitted to him that she struggles to feel a sense of belonging because of her origins but never divulged on her past. Heâs not one to pry into peopleâs personal lives though and has all the patience in the world; heâs willing to wait until sheâs ready to tell him her story.
When Rook first laid his eyes on her, he was immediately entranced by her horns. They remind him of Roi du Dragonâs, but their bright red markings make them look so unique! Despite her insecurity regarding them, he would shamelessly fawn over them whenever he has chance to. Horns or no horns, sheâll always be his petit lapin~
Her prowess with the bow had made him fall for her even harder (as if theyâre not already dating lol) since he has a natural affinity for the bow as a hunter. Combined with her ice magic, every shot her fingers release creates an ephemeral winter wonderland that he can only marvel at for a mere second.
He thinks that the ice lotus she can cause to sprout on any surface is a sight to behold, but when she summons a Sacred Cryo Pearl that continuously rains down shards of ice in the air, his breath is snatched right out of his lungs. Who knew that she was capable of conjuring up such beautiful creations?
Although he wouldnât be as shocked as Vil, he'd still be surprised if he catches her eating the wild dandelions growing around the campus. He has seen Ruggie collecting them before (hence his nickname) and can understand why he does it, but when he hears her reason of simply loving the taste of them, heâs speechless. Oh well, at least sheâs not eating the white dandelions...
Rook often compares her to Silver because of her otherworldly aura and constant sleepiness. Unlike the narcoleptic knight however, sheâd always catch herself before she completely gives in to the temptation of sleep. Should she fall asleep though, Rook would happily drape his blazer over slumbering form to keep her warm and also leave some yellow dandelions for her to snack on when she wakes up.
Epel really admires how hard she works and feels motivated to give it his all whenever he sees her diligence. How sheâs able to handle the most arduous of workloads without complaint and conflict will always be a wonder to him, and heâd offer to help lessen her workload when he has the free time to.
Her ice magic is extremely useful in preserving his apple carvings because the ice sheâs able to weave with her powers doesnât melt easily. Not to mention, she can act as his walking air conditioner and cool him down after Magift Club... She can also serve chilled apple juice, ice bridge their way across a body of water... Just thinking about the utility of her magic excites him!
When Epel witnessed her devouring the yellow dandelions like a starved beast in the courtyard for the first time, he instinctively slapped the flowers out of her hands and proceeded to smack her back to make her spit out the dandelions that were in her mouth. He refuses to let her eat anything dirty on his watch; if she wants to eat those dandelions, she should at least wash them first before consuming them!
Like Vil, Epel initially thought that sheâs related to Malleus because of her horns. He bluntly asked her if sheâs a member of the infamous Draconia family, and she had to explain to him that the idea of her being Malleusâ relative is impossible because sheâs not from the Valley of Thorns. She also revealed to Epel that sheâs not a fae, but a half-human with the blood of an illuminated beast flowing within her veins. He doesnât understand what illuminated beasts are and simply assumed that theyâre a species with a strong affinity for magic.
Her graceful and quiet nature ignited his desire to protect her from the âbad thingsâ, even though he knows that sheâs more than capable of protecting herself. Still, sheâd let him play the role of her protector, right?

IâM SO SORRY THIS IS LATE BUT HAPPY LATE BIRTHDAY CUTIE!!! @dulcesiabitsâ I hope it was a good one <3
!! information !!
characters:Â jamil/ruggie/riddle (together)
reader: gn (âyouâ pronouns)
CW: dubious use of aphrodisiacs/aphrodisiac bites (non-nsfw dubcon (i still donât know what else to call this)) - also also: blood and blood drinking/turning described vividly.
Eternity tends to dampen the senses. At least, thatâs how it felt for Jamil. Just as food no longer tasted as fine and sunlight no longer brought him joy as it warmed his skin, he found his emotions muted over time. His happiness felt like dull relief, his disappointment little more than a passing bother. Nothing seemed to affect him anymore, instead reflecting off his skin as he approached each endless day with an impassive glare.
That was why he knew exactly what was wrong when he felt it: that horrible, stinging pain that shot through his body, like he had been impaled by a red-hot iron rod and molten steel had been poured in the void where his soul used to be. Jamil crumpled to his knees, clutching and clawing at his shirt and biting his own tongue, uncaring as his fang pierced through the skin. The thought of tearing his heart out passed his mind - there was only one person who could make him feel that way, and anything that could spur this on was bad, bad, bad.

How the twisted wonderland boys will sleep on you
PART THREE
Octavinelle
Azul
He does take a liking to tight, enclosed spaces, given his past in octopus pots. Heâll seek out your arms, pulling them around him. He enjoys sleeping with his head squished into your chest, you curled around him. Itâs a security blanket of sorts, for him.
Unlike Ace,he isnât so shallow in terms of his partner. If it fits,he sleeps. He genuinely thinks that his partner,no matter the gender, the body shape,is beautiful. Maybe itâs because heâs so hard on himself that he doesnât want anyone else to go through that pain. Man really really likes being the small spoon. Itâs comforting, really, being hugged to sleep. Heâs also fond of tangling your legs with his,it has a certain intimate feeling to it.
All he wants is to be as close to you as possible.
Is that so wrong?
Jade
A rather hard man to read,to be honest. But even the more proficient workers get tired. After a busy day at the Mostro lounge, all he wants to do is to sleep, with you by his side. Being an ocean animal, warmth is something⊠foreign to him, when everything around him has always been so cold, and dark. Your presence is hot enough to set him ablaze, and heâs a little surprised to find that he doesnât mind dying to this heat if it means that youâre beside him.
Heâs not all together too fond of literally using his lover as a pillow, but he does like snuggling into the crook of your neck from behind, whispering sweet nothings into your ears. May rub circles into your back, for the sake of his hands, who are too used to being busy.
Itâs hard for someone like him to fully relax, but you seem to help.
Floyd
Similar to Jade,he wasnât exposed to much warmth growing up. The ocean was deep, dark, and scary,so thatâs how he turned out. So upon meeting you,was like seeing the word for the first time. You are his sun,his warmth, his light, and heâll gladly throw himself into the sun like Icarus if it meant feeling your kind touch.
Itâs hard to pry this man off your body in the day,so itâs much worse when heâs tired, and all he wants to do is to use his beloved shrimpy as a pillow. Has the most awkward sleeping positions, and he tends to stretch out in those poses much like a house cat dozing in the sunâs glow. He needs you beside him,his arm around you. He would probably never admit it,but he falls asleep easier when youâre in his arms.
Itâs bliss for him,so please just stay there, alright?
Omg I just found this again, loved reading it the first time and I loved it even more the second time
summary: You have the worst luck in the entire world to be transmigrated into a novel as some faceless side character, where the most notorious villains in the story wonât leave you alone. (ft. Riddle, Leona, Azul, Jamil, Vil, Idia, Malleus).
notes: 12k words, scenario, fluff, mentions of violence, reader gets injured once, heavily based on my love of cheesy isekai/reincarnation/villainess manhwaÂ
All of your problems started with the book your friend lent you.
You didnât even want to read it at first, but you took the copy because she wouldnât stop pestering you and spamming you with texts. The titleâIâve Become the Villainâs Lover!âwas embossed gold, and the cover picture had seven beautiful men lounging around a woman with brown hair, the woman gazing wistfully into the distance. In short, it was so cheesy it sent chills down your back.
You really werenât going to read it. But that summer night was hot and humid and you had nothing better to do than stare at the television and stir around your half-melted ice cream. So when you saw the book on the edge of the kitchen counter, you thought, why not? and opened it up.
If it was bad, you would stop after a few pages. But the television kept droning on as you read, and your forgotten ice cream was now melted slush in its bowl, and soon you were halfway through the story.
The premise itself was simple enough: the heroine, Hera Winn, was the treasured daughter of a down on his luck baron. He sent her to the city to make her debut, and after a series of mishaps, she ended up running into the crown prince, Malleus Draconia, who fell in love at first sight. However, the crown prince was feared by his subjects, and rumors swirled around about his fearsome power and his family. To make matters worse, six other men fall in love with Hera. The cherry on top? All seven men were notorious villains, feared by people far and wide for their cruelty.
You were still a few chapters away from the ending when your eyes started drooping; it was impossible to keep them open, even though you were dying to text your friend. It was deliciously bad, in an over-the-top and campy way, and you appreciated how self-indulgent the author was. Seriously, why would seven villains even fall for an ordinary person? It was way too contrived.
Whatever. You could call her tomorrow.
You closed your eyes, and when you opened them again, you found yourself staring at an unfamiliar ceiling. Oh no. No way. This wasnât what you thought it was, was it?
Conveniently, there was a hand mirror next to you, and when you stared into the frame, the face of a stranger stared back at you.
Your worst fears had come true. Youâd transmigrated into Iâve Become the Villainâs Lover!
Shit. You were never going to read another book in your life.

TW: Insults, bullying, the reader is a savage mean girl/bully. NO OFFENSE INTENDED!
Riddle:
The moment you heard Riddle say that he wanted you back, you couldnât help yourself as you burst out laughing, ultimately drawing the attention of everyone in the room.
âSeriously, Riddle? You think Iâd want a pathetic mamaâs boy like you? Itâs honestly hilarious watching you crawl back to me like some lowly bug after dumping me for the same stupid reason you overblotted and taking SO damn long to figure it out. I need a real man, not some loser with mommy issues.â
Riddle gasped the moment you said those things and his eyes filled with tears.
"Y/N!"
âAw, you gonna cry now, baby? Ha. Typical. Just like how you did after you overblotted. And honesty, I probably should have just left you to die, or stay traumatized forever. Cause you never learn, now, do you? Which is quite ironic considering the fact that youâre my upperclassman as well as a top student. And you know? I think Iâma try dating Floyd.â
Just then, Floyd, your new boyfriend who you had just gotten together with a couple days ago walked in and gave you a kiss the moment he saw you.
âYou know, Riddle? If I were you, I would really try to get out of this really embarrassing situation. So why donât you-â
You didnât even have to finish. The Heartslabyul Housewarden was already speeding walking out the door, only to be tripped by Ace sticking out his foot.
âOh, would you look at that? The tiny tyrant canât even walk!â He drawled, with Deuce right beside, also dying of laughter.
Riddle didnât even bother collaring them.
Leona:
it had been a couple weeks since you and Leona broke up, and within that time, it was discovered that the princess decided to break off their engagement since she didnât want Leona anymore. Leona, on this, was overjoyed, since it now meant he could come back to you and start your relationship again.
You gasped in mock hurt, âare you sure youâre a prince? Cause thatâs so rude!â
âEh? What is?â He asked, tilting his head to the side in confusion.
âThat you would think Iâm so pathetic as to want an idiot so stupid that he sulks about being a second-born prince all day but dumps the one chance he had to be loved for what? To become a political pawn? If I had known you would be this stupid, I would have let that silly princess have you, but then again, I guess she is kinda smart, considering how she abandoned you,â you said, eyeing him up and down with contempt.
Leona gaped at your words, shocked and hurt. Never in a million years would he have thought you, someone who was always so kind to him, would be capable of such cruelty. He clutched his heart, closing his mouth and opening it again like a fish.
"Woah hon hon, trickster!" a certain blonde hunter by the name of Rook Hunt, who was also your new boyfriend jeered as he walked up to you and wrapped his arms around your waist, "looks like you've made the Roi de Leon lose his roar! How amusing!"
"Ah, Rookie, baby! Aren't I just SO full of surprises? Told you I'd be a huntress worthy of you!" You gushed as you gave him a kiss on the cheek.
"Indeed you are," Leona growled, already storming away while using a hand to cover his face so that no one saw his teary eyes.
You were right. He was an idiot. He was an idiot undeserving of you. He was an idiot to have left you. But most of all, he was an idiot to have come back to you, thinking you would want him again. And now, he definitely felt like one. Especially after how you made one out of him in front of everyone.
Idia:
"Are you two telling me," you sneered with a tight smile and a twitching eye, "that not only did you dump me that day, but also lied about the reason as well?"
"W-well," Ortho began, stuttering, "when you put it like that-"
"Y/N, I was trying to protect you. You know how powerful STYX is, and what they'd do if they found out I was dating a magicless human, and I-"
"Don't want to see me get hurt? Wow. You sure are dumb, huh? I mean, don't get me wrong. I appreciate that part, but if you'd known even a single damn thing about me, you'd have known that I would have eagerly let you go if you had told the truth form the beginning. In fact, it's really quite an insult that you'd think I'm dumb enough to value my love and relationship with you over my own safety. And to be honest, if I had known you were going to be this offensive with your mere offer to get back together, maybe getting together with you in the first place was a mistake. I'm honestly starting to see why everyone hates you and wanted to leave you to die at the hands of Ghost Bride."
"O-oh . . . okay . . ." Idia said trembling, already turning to go, "S-sorry I bothered you, Y/N . . ."
"Big Sister!" Ortho cried, "Why'd you gotta be so mean!? I know what my brother did was a jerk move, but-"
"Aw, look. The dumbass robot who's supposed to imitate a ten-year-old baby is desperately tryna defend his big bro knowing the crap he put me through. You really do worship your brother like he's a Greek God, eh? How entertaining, like how the myths are!" You cackled.
Ortho was about to punch you when Idia placed a hand on his shoulder, "leave her, Ortho. She's right. I really am a mistake."
"B-but Big Brother!"
"Let's go!" Idia yanked him along. He didn't want you to see him cry. Didn't want to hear your evil insults anymore. Didn't want to be heartbroken and humiliated any further.
"Hey! Be grateful I was kind enough to pull you aside and respect your privacy. If anything, you would've been the laughingstock of the school by now, not saying you aren't one already."
At this rate Idia was running. Running away from you, and back to his dorm. Once alone and quiet, he let himself bawl. You were right. He really didn't know anything about you. Because if he did, he would have already known you could be so mean. Because if he did, he would never have dared to approach you and ask for your love again.
Malleus (and Lilia):
(To be honest guys, I REALLY hated the way Lilia treated Y/N during Malleus' part, so I'm going to be mean to him too! >:D)
Life had been a living hell for Silver these days. How could it not be? You had been spreading malicious gossip about him, pulling the most humiliating of pranks, and spitting out the cruelest, most pride-crushing insults ever at him. And behind that cool, collected exterior he put on for the sake of his father and master, also because you blackmailed him, he was breaking behind it all.
Speaking of his father and master, it had recently been decided that Malleus wouldn't be betrothed to that stupid fairy noblewoman after all. Of course, Malleus was ecstatic, and Lilia was fine, since Malleus could be happy without political complications, and thus both immediately ran to Ramshackle dorm to tell you the good news . . . only to see you pouring cold milk over Silver's head while surrounded by a group of laughing freshmen.
"Y/N! What in Twisted Wonderland is the meaning of this!?" Lilia exclaimed, rushing to his son.
You smirked. "Well, Lilia, since you and Whore-ton were SO rude to me that day when you guys dumped me, I've decided to have a little revenge. But of course, since bullying you and him would be SO boring and predictable, I decided to take my anger out on your son and vassal, instead."
"What!? How dare you!? Y/N, I'll have you know that Malleus is a prince, and him breaking up with you was a necessary action to ensure the stability of the court of Briar Valley!"
"Indeed, Y/N," Malleus voiced angrily, "also, I have recently been informed that due to certain circumstances, my engagement was broken off. Me and Lilia came here to tell you that we can be reunited. However, I can't love you again if you're going to act like this."
"Pfft, stupid idiots," you spat in distaste as you rolled your eyes (and flipped your hair, if you have long hair), "seriously? You two STILL don't get it? And you honestly still think I'd want you? After so rudely humiliating me that day by forgetting I'm a commoner who doesn't always understand politics and yelling at me, and then gaslighting me by telling me I'm being emotional when really, if you two had just given me some time to collect myself and leave, you think I would still be nice to you and your dormmates? If I had known you two would be so audacious and entitled, I probably would have harassed Sebek as well. Ha! Speaking of forgetfulness, I'll also remind you that while you're the future king of the Briar Valley of Thorns, you're also a feared, friendless monster without me."
Malleus stared at you, mouth agape and stretching his ears to ensure that he heard you right. You had been the kindest person he had ever known, never in a million years would he have imagined you to also be the cruelest. Tears began to form in his eyes as soon as he realized that such terrible words had indeed come out of your mouth.
"Ha, don't tell me you also forgot that I don't fear you. After all, if I wasn't afraid to love you, wouldn't I also be unafraid to hate you, as well?"
"Now, Y/N," Lilia began, almost condescendingly, "you're seriously so angry just because of that? I expected you to be angry about the fact that Malleus dumped you, but you're angry about the way he dumped you!? How petty can you be!?"
"P-please, father," Silver suddenly said, trembling, "Sh-she's a monster. P-please, j-just appease her. I can't endure th-this h-humiliation any further," he sobbed.
"Oh, my son . . . " Lilia murmured.
"Fine," Malleus said coldly, wiping away his own tears, "Y/N, we're sorry for offending you. Now, cease your harassment towards my knight at once."
"Tsk. That's your best apology? I've seen better repentance from pigs. Kneel down on the dirt and beg for my mercy." You commanded.
"Yeah!" Epel shouted, "kneel before the queen bee!"
And with that, all the freshmen began chanting,
"KNEEL BEFORE THE QUEEN BEE!"
"KNEEL BEFORE THE QUEEN BEE!"
"KNEEL BEFORE THE QUEEN BEE!"
"FINE!" Malleus roared, getting down until his forehead touched the grass, his ass facing the sky, and in the most polite tone he could manage, began saying "your most noble majesty, please have mercy on our offenses of speaking insolently in your presence, and with our mere offer to reunite,"
"Ahahaha!" You cackled, "that's a good dog. Now get out of my sight!" You bellowed as you kicked Malleus' head, right between his horns.
Malleus immediately scrambled to his feet, and with Lilia and Silver, furiously stormed back to Diasomnia. And by stormed back, it was literal, since storm clouds began to cloud the sky.
Once in his room, Malleus finally let himself bawl - and rage. He had just made his first - and last friend, and turned her into an enemy. He had just had his first love, someone he envisioned as his queen - only for her to turn out to be a Queen of Mean.
Author's Note: When I was reading the original fanfic, I could barely imagine myself being nice to any of the boys. So, I created this fic. I was not made to offend anyone. You are a kind and awesome individual!"
âą You left everything in your hand when you knew riddle called for you, you know...he's more important than anything, you made your way to the dorms as you expected him waiting for you, what could it be? Did he tell his mother about you? Or he's inviting you for a tea party and prepared some cake for you? Soon you will know....
âą You knocked the door before getting in, on hearing "come in" you opened the door and walked in with a wide smile, "riddle, you called for me?" You asked with a joyful smile waitng for him to answer, his face had a mixed expression of sadness and worrying, "yes, please take a seat" he pointed to where you can sit and he sat by you not even making an eye contact with you which made you even worried.
âą "I told you I'm going to tell mother about you that's right?" Riddle's eyes rised from the ground to your face then, "yes....did she accept the fact I'm being your gf?" You said with a worried smile, he lowered his gazes before he spoke again "no.....she didn't"
âą You took riddle's hand into yours still smiling as you spoke " it's ok riddle, she will change her mind, I'm sure!" You tried to look him in face only to see a bitter expression on his face, "she won't and I'm afraid..." he pulled his hands from yours as your heart sink preparing yourself to the worse..
âą "We have to break up"
âą Time has stopped when you heard those words out of his mouth, he's not saying this is he? You laugh as you couldn't believe this, "are you joking? You're leaving me? Haven't you said you will stay by my side no matter what they said? ANSWER ME!!" you couldn't help it but screamed at him at the end of your words unable to hold your tears anymore.
âą "I have no choice...I'm sorry"
âą On hearing his words you couldn't handle it anymore, you ran out of the room slamming the door by you, riddle's eyes began to tear, it's harder on him more than you, he was angiry and all against it.....but he has no choice.
âą Weeks passed and you were a crying mess, not even attending any lessons or talking to anyone, but in the last few days you began to come back again but this time with a brighter smile than ever, riddle decided to ditch everything and all orders he took to not talk to you anymore and decided to talk to you.
âą "(Y/n) i was thinking....i don't want to listen to her orders again....i want to be with you!" Riddle was all determined talking to you, you gave him a smile preparing to speak again but that's when kalim dashed towards you giving you a big hug.
âą "Finally found you! Come on, jamil has prepared lunch for us and then we will go in a trip on the magic carpet" kalim held your arm dragging you with him away from riddle before you even speak, he held his arm in sadness as all he could think about was your bright smile when you were with someone else, someone isn't him.....
âą "Come again?" You're not sure if you didn't hear him well or he's joking or what is it anymore, is he seriously saying he wants to break up with you or this is one of his jokes...
âą "Again, we have to break up" Leona sigh before pushing those heavy words from his mouth, he couldn't handle saying it once so you made him say it twice now,"and that's for?" You tried your best not to seem hurt as you rised an eyebrow questioning.
âą "They arranged a marriage to me, they want me to marry a silly princess from a nearby kingdom to make an alliance with this kingdom that's it" leona closed his eyes as he tried his best not to get mad while speaking about them.
âą "And you agreed?" You crossed your arms on your chest not liking what you just heard, " they are driving me mad and farena doesn't stop talking about this....they even want me to get engaged with her next holiday!" Leona hide his face with one hand as he spoke.
âą "And since when you listen to anyone? Especially farena?" This time you began to get mad , you admit you even wanted to slap him!, "you don't understand anything"
âą "Fine...and i don't want to understand, if breaking up is that what you want then you got it...i wish you happiness with someone else!" As stubborn he is you were also stubborn doing your best hiding your feelings..the daggers were staping you in your heart, once you closed the door and took some far steps from his room you begain crying and wailing, you think he didn't hear that? He did and it broke every inch of his loving heart to you, he squeezed his eyes shut, headache was already getting the best of him but breaking your heart was worse than headache.
âą That was rough two months on the both of you, him being moody and getting mad at anyone and you for not trusting anyone anymore and not event talking with others, you just decided to keep your feelings for yourself but things can change sometimes.
âą Leona saw you more active and all fresh new, did you forget about him that quickly? He moved by your direction as you were in the hall, you were speaking with someone else and laughing it was like you're finally back happy, leona take a hide as he moved closer but he was torn to see that you're talking to lilia! The vice of that lizard?! Why him!? He decided he's going to talk to you about that as he stopped you for a talk.
âą "Can i talk to you alone?" It was more like a command not a request, you looked at lilia asking and he nodded and left you alone with a wide smile, "well actually i didn't expect you after being the girlfriend of a prince to become a friend with the lizard's servant I'm impressed!" Liona rised an eyebrow to you as he spoke in a sarcastic tone holding your arm into his grib which you of course didn't like...
âą " well i prefer to be with a servant that truly loves me than to be with a prince that threw me away only because he was ordered to! Unfortunately....i thought myself valuable for you....." pulling your hand from his grib you walked away to catch with lilia who was watching over you from afar leaving leona hurt alone standing in the hall...
âą "(Y/n)! You have to decide now, it's either you stay with me forever or go back to your world!" It was the first time idia seem that serious with you, it's not like you're going to your home now since no one found you a way yet so you decided to laugh it off with idia, "idia what do you mean? I'm always here for you!"
âą "Not forever! One day you will leave me! And i will go back to be alone again, if you're going to leave then we have to break up right now!" Idia gave you his back as he spoke out, it was the first time you see him like that...."break up?!"
âą "Yes! If you're going to leave me then there's no need for me to get attached to someone will leave me at last.....I HATE TEMPORARILY PEOPLE!" idia shouted made your heart jump from it's place, you ran to him to comfort him, you held his arm trying to face him as you tried your best to not seem sad from what he said...he didn't mean it, right?
âą "Idia, i will always be by your side as long as I'm here but when it's time to go back i have to....i have a family waiting for me..." you were going to hug him and that's when he pushed you away, "then it's your choice to leave me then....I'm sorry (y/n) we have to break up!"
âą "IDIA WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?! Are you dumping me for that reason? Was i a game in your hand to toy with and leave it whenever you're tired? If that what you think of me then i will give you what you want and i will leave you...but when you know your fault don't come talk to me!" You shouted at him as you pulled him from his jacket to face your crying ones, you collected your strength to speak again "it was my fault i loved someone like you!" You threw him to the ground, you left him and ran back to your room crying, he was on the floor hugging his knees hiding his face with his hands almost crying, he felt a hand on his shoulder...it was ortho..
âą "Nii san....why didn't you tell her the truth?" Ortho looked at idia in sadness as idia burst out into tears hugging his little brother tightly, "i had to do that , it's better if she don't know....when they knew im in love with a normal human they were going to get rid of her...it's all for her good to stay away from me"
âą It hurts idia deeply what he said to you and what have you also said to him before you leave, but as long as you're safe then it's going to be ok, but he wasn't ok seeing you playing board games with azul every once in a while and spend time with him....and most importantly your smile that you used to bright up his day with are no longer his, he held his chest tightly crying, it was all for your own good.....
âą He was worried, not like every time he used to be, he's not that joyful person but at least not by you, you grew more worried as he was avoiding your gazes to him and that's when you decided to speak, "malleus...are you ok?" You looked at him with a questioning expression unable to read his face for the first time.
âą He took a deep breath before he looked at you with a serious face, "i think we should break up" you froze for a second not knowing how to react to this sudden decision that he made all alone, " why should we? Have i done something that made you mad at me? Have i said something wrong or that's because of my carefree actions? I'm sorry, i will change it all but Don't leave me!" Your eyes began to tear, you didn't know what you did wrong!
âą "Look....it's better if you stay away from me....that's my problem not yours" he looked at you with a frown as he spoke, he seriously want to break up with you? , "have i complained? I accept you with all your problems in all your forms!" You reached your hand to his back as he was facing the wall, what you couldn't see back then the pain into his face, he really doesn't want this....
âą "(Y/n) it's all over between us! And....there's another one in homeland that is going to be my partner, one day you will go back to your word and i don't want to be alone anymore"
âą "Malleus, have you replaced me?" You cried out you lunge as your tears were running down your face like a waterfall, your crying squeezed his heart , it's not easy for him as well, "i stood by you when no one was here, i never feard you, i loved you from the bottom of my heart...and what i got in reward that you replaced me?!" You held into malleus' back crying even harder, "please tell me you're not doinf this to me, tell me that is not real!"
âą And that's when you heard another voice in the room " you're not the appropriate mach with malleus, we already found him the better ones so please calmly leave the place with no more struggling!" Your eyes widened on hearing lilia's words, it was the first time you ever hear him speaking to you in that tone, you left malleus back and took your way out of diasomania.
âą Poor malleus stood there, he squeezed his eyes shut as he can't believe what he has done to you, you really were the most kind person towards him and he didn't want all of this to happen...
âą "You did the right thing" said lilia before leaving malleus alone into his room..
âą Time passed and you stopped hearing about malleus or even want to talk to him again, you were out of class waiting for someone, malleus saw you standing there and without thinking he began to walk towards you, but only to find another blonde guy running towards you, you were so happy to see him, " o mon fleur, sorry if i kept you waiting" it was rook hunt, he took your both hands and placed a Kiss on each one as you giggled on his action he continued, "come on, i will prepare us some tea and then we will do some skin-care routine!!" The happy guy took your hand walking you away from malleus' sight , he deeply wanted to go talk to you again but he will never do that after what happened this day.....
Even a hundred apologies will never cure broken hearts....

After several attempts, and failures, they finally succeeded.
They got through
To your world.
What next? Try and Find you, Rush to your side first thing and try to casually explain that a video game character broke out of their code to see them?
Maybe set things up first? Comfy living, then an easy way to find you? Or go off clues from things you used to say or areas he saw behind you? Or did he get lucky and heâs two feet away?
Man, He should have checked the code for your locationâŠ..No time to lose!

Truth be told, he got quite lucky.
A library is where he arrived, one he recognized as your hiding spot to study, or simply relax.
So, he found every tome he thought relevant on what he needed to know of the basics of your world, aswell as the one he last witnessed you study, and sat himself in the seat next to where you usually did, awaiting your arrival.
Was it timely? Perhaps, Perhaps not.
Youâd been slightly (Very) annoyed that for some reason, none of your Riddle cards would show his appearance. The Chibi was no where to be seen, and your homescreen vacant of him.
So as you made your way to your spot, you nearly shrieked because either thats a damn good cosplay or Riddle Rosehearts was very casually reading the history textbook your teacher assigned while sitting four feet away from your usual spot.
Steel blue eyes scoped to check the noise, and sat up instantly.
âJust as I expected, youâd arrive here sooner or later. You certainly took your time, however.â
Before you could process the fact he sounded suspiciously like Ciel Phantomhive, he quite literally summoned a tea set. Out of thin air.
And was just staring. Most definitely waiting for you to sit down casually like he didnât summon an entire china set with piping hot tea in a magicless world.
This was the real deal. Mommy Issues Supreme was now officially your problem. Good Luck.

He remembered the name of the bakery down the street you visited.
As a joke, when youâd finished book one, youâd ordered a Strawberry Tart. He couldnât exactly remember if you actually ate it, or gave it away, but it was funny, regardless.
Using Paint the Roses, he altered a napkin into a very nice resume, and he got a job there.
When Trey up and vanished from your homescreen, youâd gone to get a pastry to cheer yourself up. Not the best coping skill, but hey, it works.
It was pretty late, and it seemed they were closing up, so you planned to just be in and out, not wanting to make their job any harder.
The little bell rung as you entered, and the little alarms in your head went off when you arrived at the counter, and a-wait, why would someone cosplay at their job? Trey and working at a Bakery fit together, butâŠwait a second. Thats not a wig, and thats not contacts either.
If Ingame Trey was missing, and this guy looked exactly like himâŠ..Nope, Not Possible.
Trying to play it casual , you ordered the usual and once you had it, sat down as you normally would.
But when you took a bite of your treat, it tasted likeâŠ.Strawberry. Then Chestnut. What the hell.
You unintentionally had an odd staring contest with the current cashier, who then held out a scarily familiar pen, chuckling a bit as he placed it on the counter.
âSurprise.â
After making his way around the counter, he sat down on the other side of the table, doing his best to not freak you out too much.
âYea, I know this might be a bit confusing, and Itâs probably not easy to process all this, so take your time, and Iâll answer any questions you have.â
Great, because you had several.

Social Media Stalking but not Stalking was his forte.
The first thing he did was make pretty much every account he could on medias he knew you had. Like Tumblr.
He decided it would be way too freaky to just pop up out of nowhere, so as he was thinking and exploring, he took a few selfies and photoshoots here are there.
And WOW. They blew up. At first he thought it was the general math of Attractive Guy + Good Photos of him = Alot of Views. He had sorta kinda forgot other people knew about Twist until he noticed the flood of âCater IRLâ and âTHE Cater Cosplayâ comments. Which gave him an idea.
After the annoyance of all your Caters being lost in the code sauce, you messed around online until you accidentally pulled up a page with the greatest Cater Cosplay you had ever witnessed.
You had to do a double take when the follow button said âFollow Backâ. You complied with the buttons wishes and followed them back.
After a while, you somehow ended up dming back and forth with him, and his strangely Cater coded texts. You also discovered that it apparently wasnât a cosplay, and just his natural appearance was scarily similar to Caters..and his name was Cater, which was accidentally revealed by a Starbucks barista calling out after finishing making his drink while you were calling.
Part of you suspected that this could be the real Cater, with all the math adding up, and the other half of you called you a fucking idiot for that.
Little did you know the first one was exactly what Cater was hoping for.
With that, he managed to do some kinda social media stalking ( but not like, Rook Levels, DW) and found your general area based on area matching (TY Google Maps!) and nearly jumped for joy when he realized it was where he was too.
He subtly managed to sneak that in conversation, and set up a meetup between you two, a brunch and phone shopping. Weird Pick on the last one, but you decided not to judge.
The first thing he said when you arrived confused you, alot.
With a bright smile, he waved you over.
âHey! Long Time no see!â
Ignoring the aggressive red flag in that statement with a simple âMaybe he meant since we calledâ as if you didnât call him last night to plan this out, either way, you scooted in.
You two got so distracted chatting, at one point making up a game of fake gossiping the craziest things to see if anyone reacted, and for your own entertainment.
Because of that, your drink went warm, and as soon as you mentioned it, you got your answer to the âWhere did my Caters go.â question.
Why? Because, as if this had happened before, he simply refroze it. Magically.
As you stared in pure awe and confusion, he grimaced upon the realization his cover was pretty much blown.
âWhoopsâŠLets just pretend that didnât happen, and Iâll explain later, âKay?â
You just had to pray nobody witnessed that, as Area 51 did definitely did not sound like Cay-Cays ideal Vacay.

He thought it would be fucking HILARIOUS to prank you, as, unfortunately for you, he ended up in your house, only to find out you were asleep, which gave him the opportunity to PUA (Prank Upon Arrival)
For the next several hours of your waking life, Ace of Hearts playing cards of varying sizes would be infesting your house, or when youâd put something down and look away, there was either a card on it or it had been replaced by a card.
You were also robbed of leftovers youâd been saving, and a few snacks by this card demon.
After you left the house vacant (you fool), the Knave struck again, this time sneaking out and guessing your next move, heading off to a cafe because you needed caffeine after the card madness, until you had already ordered, and you had turned on Twist while waiting for your drink.
Quietly, he slid into the chair infront of you as you grumbled.
âHeâs not on the homescreen eitherâWhere the hell are all my Ace cards?â
Hehe, Infront of you. This is the best setup ever.
Leaning back on the chair, he couldnât contain a grin as he faked obliviousness.
âI dunno. Maybe try looking around a lilâ more?â
Not paying much attention to who was talking to you in your moment of despair , you sighed, swiping back to the home screen.
âTheyâre not those kinds of cards.â
âArenât like, five of them card themed?â
âFour right now, since Ace has seemingly gone and fucked off to another dimension:â
âYeaaa, about that. It was not as easy to do as youâre making it sound. Just saying.â
You looked up for a split second, then did a double take and nearly skyrocketed out of your chair, making indecipherable confusion noises while he laughed his ass off, totally soaking in the success of his perfect surprise you had unintentionally enabled.
While you stood frozen in shock, he simply grabbed your things, put them in your hand, S̶t̶o̶l̶e̶ grabbed your coffee, and whisked you out the door.
I pray for you, good luck dealing with him.

Woke up in either your garage or kitchen, and was confused. Rightfully so.
Since he couldnât really find you around, but at least recognized this as your house, he just waddled around more or less, fixing random things here and cleaning up there while trying to find clues to where you might be, or if he should just wait here.
He finally found a grocery list, which you had forgotten, and spent the next 10 minutes trying to find the nearest grocery store while unintentionally locking himself out of the house in the process, so made the genius decision to hope you were still at the grocery store and dashed over.
Youâre doing great, dude.
Anywho, he got lucky, because in the middle of carrying off your shopping bags, your notification that your AP was full went off, and as you went to use it, you noticed a severe lack of Deuce on your homescreen.
This lead to sitting on a bench and getting distracted trying to figure out why the hell this glitch had only affected your Deuce cards, so you werenât paying much attention when you heard a voice somewhat far off but close.
âOh hey! There you are!â
Assuming it was for someone else, you continued trying to fix the âglitchâ, then paused when you heard the voice from before right infront of you.
âDo you need help with carrying those bags?â
The words âIâm good, thanks.â died on your tongue when you looked up, only to be face to face with the guy youâd been suffering trying to figure out where he went for 20 minutes. Ingame. In a VIDEO GAME.
Internally, you practically short-circuited, after you panicked, he started panicking, and you both ended up in a weird confusion panic that had the energy of the spidermans pointing at eachother meme.
Great job! You have now acquired a German Shepard Golden Retriever mix in human form.

Unlike most of them, he had absolutely zero trouble hopping into your world.
However, instead of revealing himself right away, he decided to be the ghost of good deeds and mischief. And a random black cat youâd suspiciously find on your window sill demanding pets or cuddles.
Luckily transforming, flying, invisibility, and the rest of his magic ability seemed to work just fine.
Sometimes, youâd randomly find things placed in unusual places, spoons on the ceiling, for example, the paintings or pictures sometimes randomly taking on very funny faces, teacups and plates floating around at 2am, leaving you to assume it was a sleepy hallucination.
Other times youâd be aggravatingly trying to fix something, look away for one moment, and not only was it fixed, it looked almost brand new. Or youâd open the fridge or pantry, and notice the lack of food, then open it again, and iâd be filled to the brim.
You never noticed anything too strange on Twist itself however until you got bored one day, and decided to replay Heartstabyls chapters, only to realize Cheânya wasâŠcompletely missing.
Out of sheer curiosity, you checked his Pomfieore Chapter appearance. Nothing. Gone.
Trying to see if it was just the WIFI connection, you moved rooms, only to see a blink of purple in the corner of your eye.
Lounging in the air by the window, tail swaying lazily, he peeked over, then grinned his signature grin.
âNya-ice to meet you~â

Yay! Thats all!!
Holy shit I canât believe I wrote this, feel free to take me out (Date or Assassination I really donât care)
Alright! I might do more but they might not be in dorm order, see ya!
Pairing: Jamil x GN!Reader Genre: Fantasy, Fluff A/N: This fic is set in modern-day Japan where the NRC boys are magicless and you are the magical being. :^) I'm also today years-old when I realized I really put Ace as a side character for all of my fics.
Growing up, Jamil used to wish upon a star.
That star was always the brightest one in the night sky, yet it never seemed to stay up there for very long. But Jamil never minded that because to him, it was like that star disappeared to work on his wishes every time.
After some time, as Jamil grew older and became more preoccupied with the challenges life provided him, he stopped making wishes.
Long forgotten was the brightest star in the sky â though it continued to sparkle, watching over Jamil every night as if it was a sort of guardian angel.
He didnât even notice that the star never left the sky anymore after heâd stopped making wishes.
That is, until one day, Jamil finally remembered the star.
Itâs just past sunset on a Thursday evening when Jamilâs friend Ace comes strutting into his shared dorm room. Heâs twirling a set of keys in his index finger while the other hand is shoved inside the pocket of his denim pants.
âHey,â Ace greets as he leans against the wall next to Jamilâs desk. âAre you busy tonight?â
Jamil hums in response without taking his eyes off his laptop. He remains silent while his fingers are busy rapidly typing the last sentences to his history paper.
âOkay,â Jamil breathes out as he finally shuts off his laptop with a sharp click. He briefly rubs circles on his temple before glancing over at Ace. âWhat were you saying?â
âAre you free tonight? Deuce wants us to accompany him tonight for a project for his planet-something class,â Ace waves his hand dismissively in the air, the keys in his hand jingling along with the motion.
âWeâre architecture majors. Why would he ask us for help?â Jamil asks as his face twists into a mixture of confusion and disgust.
âNo, not helpâ unless he really wants to fail his class. He has to go look at some constellations or something, and he doesnât want to do it alone. So can you come or not?â
Jamil chews on his lower lip as he thinks. Heâd just finished the last assignment thatâs due this week and heâs got no other plans for the weekend besides to catch up on sleep.
âFine, Iâm in,â Jamil rolls his eyes before getting up and trailing behind a much-too-giddy Ace.
He follows the male out of the dormitory to where his car is parked. In the backseat is seated a napping Deuce whose head is resting on Liliaâs shoulder. Meanwhile, Lilia is busy playing a game on his phone, and Jamil has to wonder how Deuceâs able to sleep when Liliaâs arms are shaking at 50 kilometers per hour.
âSevens, Lilia. Could you be any more aggressive?â Ace asks once heâs situated in the driverâs seat.
âSorry,â Lilia grins without a hint of guilt on his face. âHey, Jamil.â
âHey,â Jamil nods towards the older male after securing his seatbelt across his chest. âSo⊠where are we going, exactly?â
âShizuoka prefecture. Itâs going to be quite the drive, so feel free to take a nap if you need it. Iâm loaded on Red Bull too,â Ace enters the coordinates into his GPS before propping his phone up on a car phone mount.
Accompanying the monotone voice of the GPS is a playlist filled with piano covers of Studio Ghibli moviesâ soundtracks.
It doesnât take long for the gentle melodies to lull Jamil to sleep. His head gently and rhythmically taps against the cold surface of the car window as Ace cruises past the few hoursâ drive to Gekko Observatory.
It feels like only a handful of minutes have passed by when Jamil is shaken awake by Ace. He groans as he stretches his arms out from his sides, his eyes blinking rapidly until his vision finally adjusts to the dark surroundings.
âWeâre here?â Jamil asks, his voice still hoarse from sleep.
âYes, weâre here. You wouldnât wake up earlier, so I gave you an extra ten minutes,â Ace steps back and closes the car door once Jamil finally stumbles out of his seat. âCome on. Letâs go before I forget where Deuce dragged us off to.â
Jamil follows Ace as he makes his way past the main observatory buildings. They walk away from the well lit areas towards a much darker space, somewhere that allows them to see the stars in the night sky that much better.
They slowly approach a relatively large red tent set up in the middle of a grassy field. Beside it lay a still-gaming Lilia and Deuce setting up his telescope.
âIs this allowed?â Jamil asks as he plops down onto the grass next to Lilia.
âYeah! As long as we donât disturb the youth camp, Iâm sure thereâs no problem,â Deuce briefly nudges his head to the left before turning his attention back to his telescope.
Everyone sits in silence for a few minutes. For the small group of four, the silence is uncommon but it isnât uncomfortable.
It gives them the chance to take in the fresh air and peaceful atmosphere thatâs a stark contrast to life at university.
Jamil could hear crickets chirping, and itâs accompanied by the distant sound of childrenâs yells and laughter. The mental image of their carefree spirit brings a smile to his face without him even realizing it.
âSo⊠what is it that youâre looking for, Deuce?â Liliaâs question cuts through the quietness first.
âStars, Lilia. Iâm looking for stars,â Deuce chuckles as he peers through the eyepiece of the telescope.
Jamil lays down onto the grass, his ears completely blocking out Liliaâs onslaught of questions for Deuce and his eyes trained on the dark night sky.
And there it was: a familiar bright twinkle in the sky.
Out of all the stars that he could see â and yes, there were many â that one shines the brightest of them all.
Then Jamil remembers that particular habit he had of wishing upon a star when he was younger. Itâs been such a long time that heâd almost forgotten all about it.
But he feels certain that that star is the same star from his childhood.
A small smile plays on Jamilâs lips as he thinks back to all the wishes heâs made in the past. Most of them were silly, he was only a child after all.
His very first wish was for a plate of sushi in the middle of the night when he was only 7 years-old. It was on a night when he couldnât fall asleep and decided to find his father who was still working in his home office.
âDad?â Jamil whispers as he carefully opens the door and peeks into the dimly lit room.
Jamilâs father glances up from the pile of paperwork heâd been sorting through and smiles softly when he sees Jamil standing awkwardly at the entrance of his office, âhey, how long have you been standing there for? Come in, son.â
âIâm sorry⊠I couldnât sleep,â Jamil scratches at the nape of his neck, a nervous habit heâd picked up on recently.
âThatâs alright, I was just about done here anyways,â his father shakes his head and closes a thick manila folder shut. âHow about we go out back? Maybe itâll help you clear your head.â
ââClear my headâ?â Jamil echoes, the curiosity clearly etched onto his face.
âYes. Sometimes when I canât sleep, itâs because Iâm thinking too much about something. So we have to do something to help fix that,â Jamilâs father gets up from his seat and holds a hand out towards Jamil.
âOkay, what are we doing?â Jamil places his hand in his fatherâs much larger one and follows the man out of his home office.
They walk towards the back of the house, towards the French doors that open up to a generously spacious backyard.
Jamil and his father take a seat on one of the benches there, and for a moment, no one says anything.
But, unlike how he is today, 7 year-old Jamil cannot sit still â at least, not in silence â for very long. Not even when thereâs an ensemble of crickets surrounding him.
âDad?â Jamil pokes at his fatherâs shoulder, âwhat are we doing out here?â
âWellâŠâ his father sighs before gazing up at the night sky. Jamilâs eyebrows furrowed in confusion before he followed his fatherâs gaze. âWeâre stargazing.â
âWhy?â the question comes out sounding a bit meaner than Jamil intended it to. He shakes his head quickly, as if to dismiss the question. âIâIâm sorry, I meanâŠâ
His father chuckles before placing a hand on Jamilâs shoulder, âitâs okay, I understand what you meant. Have you heard about making wishes on stars?â
âLike that one song? From Cinderella?â he tries to say it rather nonchalantly, but due to his younger sisterâs recent obsession with Disney princesses and their movies, Jamil begrudgingly has the song lyrics memorized at this point.
âJust like that,â his father chuckles again, his eyes sparkling in amusement as if he could read Jamilâs thoughts. âSometimes, when I canât sleep, Iâll just sit out here and look at the stars. Itâs very relaxing to me. And sometimes, maybe on the days when I feel too stressed out about something, Iâll make a wish on one.â
âWhy are you stressed out, dad?â Jamil inquires with a prominent frown to his face.
âBecause⊠of adult things that you donât have to worry about for now.â
âOh⊠but can I still make a wish anyways?â
âOf course, you can. Just pick a star and think about your wish. You canât say it out loud or it wonât come true,â his father ruffles his hair and gives him a kind smile before returning his attention back to the sky.
Jamil also looks up at the sky where a bright star immediately catches his attention. Perhaps it was because he didnât take the time to look elsewhere, but he could have sworn that one was the brightest of them all.
He wasnât sure what he wanted to wish for. Heck, he wasnât even sure he believed in wishing on a star.
But thereâs a first for everything, right?
So, with his dark orbs fixed on that bright star and his stomach inaudibly grumbling, Jamil wishes for the first thing that comes to mind: sushi.
He didnât say it out loud and there weren't any special occasions coming up that would warrant it â but when Jamil woke up the next morning, he found a wide assortment of sushi rolls laid out on the kitchen table.
He thought that there was no way it could have been a coincidence, that the star must have heard him and granted him his wish. That moment made him a believer, and he began to make wishes more frequently.
âDeuce, whatâs the name of that star? That really bright one,â Jamil asks without thinking, the question interrupting the conversation his friends had been having.
âWhich one?â Deuce looks towards the sky, trying to pinpoint exactly where Jamilâs index finger was gesturing towards. âI think you may be looking at Arcturus. Itâs the brightest star in the Boötes constellation.â
âSo thatâs its name,â Jamil mumbles to himself.
âWhat was that?â Deuce asks with his head tilted slightly.
âNo, itâs nothing. Thank you,â Jamil shakes his head dismissively.
His silence after that is enough of a signal to his friends that he was done with the brief conversation. If he tries to explain his attachment to the star, would his friends think that he was being silly?
He thinks even Deuce, the one who is absolutely in love with them, would think that it was weird.
So, Jamil keeps the star as a secret to himself.
Perhaps he isnât afraid of his friends thinking of him as foolish. No, perhaps it is merely a part of his selfishness that if the star could truly grant wishes, he wanted to keep that ability all to himself.
That brings him to a wish that suddenly blossoms inside his heart. Heâs not sure when the seed was planted there, but a sudden thought occurs to him.
If the star could really hear me now, I wish I could meet them and say âthank youâ to them.
Jamil has to fight the sudden urge to slap himself because of how silly he finds the thought. Where did it even come from?
The lack of sleep and feelings of nostalgia must be causing him to think irrationally.
He finally sits up and scoots himself closer to the small circle his friends have formed around Deuceâs telescope.
âDo you want to take a look?â Deuce asks when he notices the thoughtful look on Jamilâs face. His body is slightly turned towards him as he nudges his telescopeâs eyepiece aside. âAt the stars, I mean.â
âCan I?â
âSure. If it was Lilia, Iâd think twice.â
âHey! Iâm not the one that spilled spaghetti on Aceâs laptop!â Lilia protests loudly which causes the other three men to shush him before they receive a complaint. He grimaces before lowering his voice, âsorry, sorry.â
âI only spilled it because someone decided it was the perfect time to body slam me in the cafeteria,â Jamil jokingly bites back before getting up and making his way towards Deuce.
âArcturus, right? I adjusted the telescope so if you look, you can see it even more closely,â Deuce takes a seat on a short bench besides the telescope, watching as Jamil closes one eye and peers through the eyepiece with the other.
âWhoa,â Jamil says in awe under his breath once his eyes have adjusted to the new way of seeing the night sky, âitâs even prettier through a telescope. I can see why you enjoy this so much.â
âItâs never too late to change your major if you want to join the dark side,â Deuce chuckles as his head tilts back to look at the sky as well.
âIn your dreams,â Jamil mumbles with a grin on his face when he finally leans away from the telescope. âPlus, Ace would literally bury me ten feet under if I left him in the program by himself.â
âI heard that,â Ace calls out before chucking a handful of grass towards Jamilâs head that falls down almost as quickly as it was sent up.
Deuce laughs again and sends Ace an apologetic look, âdonât worry, your best friend is safe and sound in the architecture department with you.â
Ace immediately makes a gagging sound at the mention of âbest friendâ before turning his attention back to the game he and Lilia were busy playing.
âWell, Iâm just about done here. Maybe another hour and we can start heading back,â Deuce announces. âAnd⊠thanks for coming out here with me tonight, guys.â
The news is met with an unanimous âokayâ from the rest of the group. Jamil moves away from the telescope so Deuce could take his place and continue whatever project heâd been working on prior.
âHuh, thatâs weird. Arcturus is gone,â Deuce says aloud, mostly to himself, but the words capture Jamilâs attention.
Jamilâs gaze trails up to where heâd been captivated by the bright star mere moments ago, only to find that it was truly gone.
Just like before. How strangeâŠ
â„
The following Monday, thereâs someone Jamil has never seen before sitting at the seat next to his usual one in one of his classes. He makes eye contact with them almost immediately after walking into the room and thinks they definitely must be a new student.
Thereâs no way Iâd forget such an attractive face like that.
Someone behind Jamil clears their throat, signaling for him to move, because heâs blocking the flow of traffic by standing right in the middle of the doorway.
âOh, sorry,â Jamil mumbles and bows his head apologetically.
He makes his way towards his seat with his eyes glued to his shoes, all of his usual confidence slowly leaking out. Heâs not sure why the unknown person beside him is making him feel so nervous, and heâs not quite sure how to deal with it.
Lucky for Jamil, he doesnât have to make the first move today.
âUm⊠excuse me?â
Jamil feels a poke on his upper arm. It makes him look up and make eye contact with you once again.
âYes?â Jamil answers, his voice barely above a whisper.
You laugh lightheartedly and lower your voiceâs volume to match his, âJamil Viper, right? Iâm Arcturus, but you can call me y/n.â
Jamil blinks rapidly while his mouth continuously opens and closes. Heâs clearly caught off guard by the mention of the bright star, but you seem completely unphased by his reaction.
âYouâre pranking me, right? Did Ace tell you to say that?â
âWhoâ ah, your friend with the heart marking? No, he didnât.â
âThen Deuce did?â
âNot him either. This isnât a prank, Jamil. Iâm really Arcturus,â you state firmly.
The man narrows his eyes suspiciously at you, âprove it.â
âHm⊠letâs see,â you tap your chin as you mentally sort through the many wishes Jamil has made as a child. âAh! When you were 10 years-old, you wished for a pet tyrannosaurus rex after watching the Jurassic Park movies.â
âThatâs a lucky guess.â
âFine. Wouldnât it be better if you made a wish now and I grant it? You canât tell me I just got lucky then.â
âAre you tricking me into making a wish? Are you sure youâre not just a sneaky little genie?â Jamil asks playfully.
âI can see why youâd think that Iâm a genie, but as you can see: thereâs no magic lamps involved here,â you state with a bright smile, one that doesnât do justice to how brightly you shine in the sky. âAnd I wouldnât trick you like they would either. Just tell me your wishes as they come to your heart, and Iâll make them come true. Thatâs what Iâve always done, right?â
Jamil wasnât expecting for you to answer so genuinely. They were just rhetorical questions he asked without thinking, but he could tell that you were being truthful.
Still, a big part of him is suspicious.
In what world would a star become a human? And out of all the things they could do, why would they come and find him?
The other, smaller part of him wants to believe you. So he plays along and decides to humor you.
âJust like that?â Jamil asks with an eyebrow cocked up apprehensively.
âWell, you know, there are rules. But yes: just like that.â
âOkay⊠and what are the rules?â
âTheyâre exactly what youâd think theyâd be: nothing illegal, nothing that can harm othersâ which, uh, I guess ties into the first rule.â
âAnd how many do I get?â
âThree.â
âAhah, so you admit that youâre a genie.â
âNot a genie,â you giggle before tapping the tip of Jamilâs nose gently. âSo, what would you like to wish for first?â
âThatâs a very important decision, Arctââ
âY/n,â you quickly interrupt the man to correct him.
âY/n,â Jamil articulates with a raise of his eyebrows and a nod, âyouâll have to give me some time to think. Iâm not even sure what I want to wish for yet.â
âBoo!â you whine, leaning over the long desk with your arms stretched out in front of you. âWell, if I have to wait then it shouldnât be in the middle of a boring history lecture.â
As if on cue, the screen of Jamilâs phone lights up to indicate that he has a missed notification. He narrows his eyes at you one last time before unlocking his phone.
âHuh,â Jamil makes a sound that's mixed with surprise and confusion when he reads a new email on his phone. âMy professor has never canceled class before. Did you⊠did you do this?â
You shrug when Jamil points his phone at you accusingly. But youâre pleased to see that he seems to believe you a bit more now.
Thereâs loud shuffling noises coming from all around you as students busy themselves by cheering for their canceled lecture and packing up their untouched laptops.
âSo?â you ask, an expectant look on your face.
Jamil bites on his lower lip and taps the cap of a pen on the desk rhythmically. He stares off into space, seemingly deep in thought, and you wait patiently for him to sort through his predictably long lists of possibilities.
âWould itâŠâ you start, poking at Jamilâs forearm to make him look at you. âWould it help if I mention that you can still make wishes even after the three?â
âWhat do you mean?â Jamil tilts his head, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion.
âI mean, I only came down here because hanging out in the sky all night long is so boring. You try doing it for a countless amount of centuries, then trust me â youâll understand,â you wave your hands dismissively. âAnyways, thatâs besides the point. The point is: you had unlimited wishes when you were a child, and youâll still have unlimited wishes after I finish granting the three here.â
Jamil nods in understanding before abruptly standing up and slinging a backpack strap over his shoulder, âyou shouldâve led with that, y/n.â
âIâm sorry, Iâm not used to speaking to humans directly,â you say before your eyes shift between Jamilâs face and the hand heâs holding out towards you. âWhat?â
âI think I might know what my first wish is, so come on,â Jamil inches his hand closer to you, a signal for you to place yours in his.
You comply, allowing the man to pull you out of the empty classroom and towards an unknown location.
Itâs a sunny day, a perfect day for an afternoon stroll. And despite it being the middle of the fall semester, thereâs more than a handful of students frolicking in the spacious college yard instead of studying.
The sight of them being so happy and carefree brings a smile to your face. Itâs rare for you to see humans during the day time â and even more rare for you to see them not stressed out by something when you do get the chance.
Really, most of the time the bright sun rays block the sight of earth from you. It restricts you to only observing them during the nighttime, when most of the population is already asleep.
Soon, the large crowds of students become much more sparse until only a few of them are left hanging around.
âUm, Jamil? Where are we going exactly?â you chime up.
It takes a few more minutes of walking before Jamil finally stops, and your shoulder accidentally bumps into his back from your lack of attention.
âHere,â Jamil turns around to face you, his ears completely blocking out your murmured apology.
You lean over to the side to peek behind Jamil only to straighten up and raise an eyebrow at the man a second after, âand what are we doing standing by this long stretch of pavement?â
âWeâre here for my first wish: I wish to learn how to roller skate.â
âReally?â
âReally.â
âThatâs⊠a very tame wish,â you state plainly.
You take Jamilâs backpack off his shoulder before squatting down and unzipping it. Your hand digs into the textbook filled space and pulls out a pair of roller skates.
Jamilâs eyes practically bulge out in shock when he sees them, because thereâs no way something like that could have fit inside his small backpack.
âBut as you wish,â you grin as you hold the roller skates up towards Jamil.
âWhoa, howâd you do that?â Jamil gasps as he takes them from you.
âDo you believe me now?â you counter, crossing your arms and watching as Jamil hurries to replace his tennis shoes.
âIâm ninety-nine percent convinced. Just depends on how quickly I learn how to roller skate now.â
âYou know that Iâm not a miracle worker, right?â you stand up quickly, your arms reaching out just in time to catch Jamil as he slips forward.
When the man turns his head, your faces are so close to one-another that the tips of your noses touch.
âSâsorry. Thaâthank you,â Jamil manages to stammer out, his ears immediately turning a bright shade of red from embarrassment as he straightens up.
Youâre undeterred from the close proximity, human feelings of embarrassment or shyness not a part of your vocabulary. So you giggle and merely find Jamilâs reaction dramatic and adorable.
âDonât be so jumpy. How am I supposed to teach you if you donât let me get close enough to do so?â you stand behind Jamilâs wobbly frame, your hands placed on either side of his waist to steady him.
âWell, I thought youâd snap your fingers and Iâd just magically know,â Jamil mumbles.
âI could, but thatâs no fun, Jamil. And I came here to have fun.â
âI thought you came here to grant my wishes.â
âOh, that too,â you nod, though the carefree tone of your voice does nothing to convince Jamil of your intentions. âNow, weâll start off by teaching you the correct posture. The most important thing here is balance, so Iâll have to let you go now.â
âPerfect,â Jamilâs body stiffens once he feels your warmth leave his body.
The chilly autumn air does nothing to help him from missing your earlier proximity. But the more you try to coach him through the basics of roller skating, the warmer his body gets.
To anyone on the outside looking in, it may seem that Jamil is a natural at the sport. But, as fast a learner Jamil is regularly, there is no way heâs able to pick up on things as quickly as he did today.
Not to mention, his friends have already tried multiple times to teach him how to roller skate before with minimal success.
Who would have thought all-rounder Jamil Viper actually had a weakness?
Now it feels as if Jamil is moving off of muscle memory. The things that you instruct him to do sounds unfamiliar to his ears, but his body follows everything to a T.
You watch like a proud parent while Jamil glides up and down the long walk of pavement as if heâs been doing it his entire life. The sound of his gleeful laughter ringing through the air makes you smile brightly in response.
âShould we try doing some tricks now?â you ask as Jamil passes by you again.
At your question, Jamil presses down hard on his right toe to break and gives you a panicked look, âare you serious?â
âIâm serious and I havenât failed you yet,â you place your hands on your hips, the determined look on your face telling Jamil that he couldnât back down now.
âIf you can actually teach me how to do tricks by the end of the day, then Iâll believe you.â
âOh, done deal!â you clap in excitement, âletâs get started then!â
â„
âRemind me again why weâre here, Jamil?â you ask as you gaze up at the intricate entrance to the Centre Pompidou.
âIâm studying architecture. I wanted to see all the famous monuments of France for my studies since my classmate Rook wouldnât stop talking about it,â Jamil replies, his hands busy taking pictures of the complex building with his phone.
âAnd here I thought you were just making any excuse to miss your classes.â
âWould you judge me if I say thatâs kind of true?â
âNo, I wouldnât,â you shake your head before holding your hands out. âHere: do you want me to take a picture for you?â
âOh, sure. Thank you,â Jamil hands you his phone before jogging a few feet forward and facing you.
With a few clicks of the Camera app, you complete the routine thatâs been established for the past few days since youâve arrived in Paris, France.
Jamilâs second wish was quickly made the day after you taught him how to roller skate. After spending the night thinking about all the things he never got the chance to do, he went out to find you again.
It wasnât hard for him to, youâd already told him that youâd be hanging around one of the many coffee shops surrounding the college campus.
âOh, thank goodness you found me. I was starting to get bored,â you sigh in relief when you look up from your laptop to find Jamil sliding into the seat across from yours.
He doesnât bother to ask where your laptop came from, or how you have the money to pay for the mocha latte in your hands. At this point, he believes that youâre capable of more things than he could possibly ever understand.
âAre you okay? Is there something on my face?â you ask when Jamil doesnât say anything.
You gently pat your cheeks in search of anything that feels out of place, assuming thatâs why Jamil is staring at you wordlessly.
âWhat? Oh. No. Sorry, no. You, uh, youâ you look great,â Jamil shakes his head quickly before he presses his lips into a thin line and averts his eyes down to the coffee table. âI didnât mean to stare.â
You know that Jamil is usually not shy, usually not someone who stammers unless heâs nervous â itâs a rare occurrence.
So, you think perhaps he finds you intimidating: a celestial body who could probably strike him down if heâs not being too careful with himself.
It could explain why he treats you like one of his friends one minute but becomes flustered the next.
âYou know that Iâm not going to strike you down with lightning, right?â you lean forward with your arms crossed on the table and your lips curved up into an amused smile.
âLâlightning?â Jamil asks nervously as he scratches the nape of his neck. âWould you be able to? Strike me with lightning, I mean.â
âMy name isnât âMalleusâ, but yes: I could if I really wanted to,â you shrug nonchalantly. A horrified look appears on Jamilâs face, and you would have found it comical if he didnât look exactly like a deer in headlights. âBut you havenât done anything to warrant that, so donât be so scared.â
âIâm not scared. Itâs just that youâre⊠kind of intimidating,â Jamil huffs.
âAre you intimidated because Iâm not actually human, or because your charmingly good looks donât have any affect on me?â
âUmâŠâ Jamil looks at you in the same way a guilty child would look at their parents during a scolding: with wide puppy dog eyes and lips jutting out into a pout. âThe first one?â
âYou mean the second one,â you correct the man confidently. âItâs not the first option because you still donât believe me yet, but you will soon.
âSpeaking of which,â you clear your throat before leaning in closer and lowering your voice, âdo you have any ideas for your second wish?â
âOh. Actually, yâyeah, I do,â Jamil says slowly, almost hesitantly.
âYou donât sound very confident about that.â
âWell, itâs a very big wish. I, uh⊠I wish I could go to France.â
âNow thatâs the kind of wish Iâve been waiting for,â you nod in approval before taking your last sip of coffee and firmly placing the cup down. âLetâs go.â
âWhat, now?â Jamil emphasizes the last word with the raise of his eyebrows. âY/n, youâre always in a rush, arenât you?â
âIâm sorry, Iâm just used to getting these wishes done right away. So⊠not right now?â
âOh, no, we can go today. Iâd just need to pack some stuff first.â
âAh, thatâs right,â your mouth opens into a small âoâ when you realize youâve been rushing to get moving without thinking first. âYes, go pack whatever you need and come find me again when youâre ready to go.â
âOkay. Iâll see you later?â Jamil is already up from his chair before he could finish the question.
The excitement he exudes is contagious and you couldnât hold back the giggle bubbling up in your chest.
âYou know where to find me,â you wave the man off, gesturing for him to leave the coffee shop quickly.
Less than a week has passed since Jamil made the wish that has you turning into a tourist, but it feels like youâve spent at least a month together.
You spend every day in the same fashion as you did today: head off to a famous French monument that was in a far too long list Rook provided Jamil, he takes who knows how many pictures for future references, and then you offer to take his pictures.
You have the steadiest hands out of anyone you know â which, to be fair, isnât that many humans in the first place â yet those pictures always turn out somewhat blurry.
Todayâs pictures at the Centre Pompidou is no exception to this.
âIâm sorry, I donât know why I bother anymore. You should just delete those,â you sigh, your shoulders drooping in defeat as you watch Jamil swipe through his camera roll.
Despite you telling him that every single time, Jamil always keeps the pictures that you take of him.
Then, when you arenât looking, when youâre busy taking in the beautiful sights around you, Jamil sneaks in a few pictures of you.
Heâs not sure what will happen to them once youâre gone. Would they stay on his phone and you simply become a J. Doe to the rest of the world? Or would they disappear forever as if you were never there to begin with?
He bets if he asked you nicely, youâd allow him to keep those memories with him.
âSo, shall we go inside?â you ask as you shove your hands into the pockets of your wool overcoat.
Your question interrupts Jamilâs brief thoughts, who merely blinks before he turns his attention to you, âIâm sorry, what?â
âDo you want to go inside?â you reword and repeat your question.
âOh. Yeah, letâs go,â Jamil nods and holds a hand out towards you.
You hesitate for only a moment before you take a hand out of your pocket and place it in his. Your skin feels cold against Jamilâs, though itâs uncertain if itâs because of the weather or something else.
Still, in an attempt to keep you warm, Jamil intertwines his fingers with yours and sticks your hands into his kangaroo pocket.
How did Jamil get from jumpy and intimidated to becoming comfortable enough to hold your hands in a matter of a week? Even he wouldnât be able to give you an answer for that.
Perhaps his courage is influenced by the atmosphere that the city of love provides; itâs where couples in love roam freely, they hold hands and sneak in kisses whenever they can.
Jamil tells himself that the two of you are merely blending in with the crowd â that thereâs no way he has a crush on you.
But as he watches you studying the artwork displayed neatly along cream-colored walls, he finds that heâd prefer to look at you instead of the exhibitions.
Snap out of it, Jamil Viper.
As if you could read his thoughts, you defy him, appearing in front of the man like an unexpected dream. Like always, thereâs a beautifully wide smile on your face that makes Jamilâs heart skip a beat just at the sight of it.
âAre you okay? Youâre all spaced out today.â
âWhat? No, Iâm not,â Jamil huffs before he steps aside to let a group of tourists walk past.
âNo, youâre not okay or no, youâre not spacing out?â
âNo, Iâm not spacing out. I was just deep in thoughtâ yeah, deep in thoughts of what this painting could possibly mean,â Jamil gestures towards a medium-sized canvas to his right without really looking at it.
âThatâs a painting of the Mona Lisa holding a chubby ginger cat. Iâm not really sure that thereâs any special meaning to it,â you chuckle briefly before you reach out to gently tug at the sleeve of Jamilâs hoodie. âCome on, mister, letâs go.â
âWhere are we going, exactly?â Jamil asks as he uncrosses his arms and allows you to drag him past the long and heavily populated hallways of the art gallery.
âI figured you could use a change of pace from all the art museums and historyâ not that thereâs anything wrong with any of those places. But I planned a little surprise for you.â
âYou did?â Jamilâs eyebrows quirk up in surprise.
âOkay, I admit the idea just popped into my head,â you glare playfully at the man. âBut Iâm not the one trying to find a deeper meaning to a cat painting.â
Jamil doesnât say anything in response, doesnât try to tell you that he finds you even more mesmerizing than all the artwork in the building combined â and that heâd been staring at you this entire time.
He just lets out a short laugh and nods in agreement.
You stop in front of an emergency exit door before turning around to face Jamil. The serious look on your face is a rare sight to see and the man knows that he should take your next words seriously.
âDonât freak out when I open this door,â you say slowly, making sure to enunciate every word.
Jamil nods again before his eyes trail up to the bright exit sign above the door, âare we⊠going to trigger the fire alarm for fun?â
âDefinitely not. Iâm sure that actually goes against both of my rules,â you take a few steps backwards until your back is pressed against the push pad of the exit device.
Jamil braces himself for bright flashing lights and loud alarms when you push the door open, but heâs met with neither of those things.
Instead, he sees beautiful shades of orange on the other side of the door. Thereâs a generously wide and long stretch of grass lined with various types of trees, and both locals and tourists lounging about the large space.
âDonât worry, weâre here for a picnic,â you nod your head towards the scene, waiting for Jamil to walk past the threshold of the door to follow him out.
Jamil glances back when the door softly shuts behind you, the surprise evident on his face when he finds that itâs been replaced by a black Peugeot 208.
âSometimes I forget that youâre actually a magical being who can do stuff like that.â
âAnd you donât seem as shocked as you should be for a human being,â you shoot back with a grin. âNot that Iâm complaining. Iâd much prefer that to you screaming in fear.â
Jamil looks unamused at your last sentence. He knows exactly what you are referring to: the first time he experienced the unexplainable things that you are capable of.
That experience was similar to what youâd done just now, and it was what solidified his belief in you.
âOkay, but you didnât warn me that opening the door to a washroom was going to lead me to the top of the Eiffel Tower. This is a lot more acceptable.â
âWell, I figured we could make the journey a lot easier and faster by doing that,â you shrug, the contents of the picnic basket in your hands making soft shuffling noises as you move. âNow, letâs go find an open space to sit.â
You follow closely behind Jamil as he maneuvers around small clusters of chatty folks, most of which doesn't hear his muttered âexcuse me.â
You follow him until you reach nearly the end of the grassy terrain where there is a decent amount of available space for you to lay a blanket on top.
âWhere are we anyways?â Jamil asks once youâre situated on top of the thick blanket protecting your clothes from the damp grass.
âThe Luxembourg Gardens. I overheard someone saying that itâs the perfect spot for a picnic, and figured you could use the change in scenery.â
Jamil has to admit that youâre right about that.
The much needed fresh air aside, Jamil finds that he surprisingly enjoys seeing all the beauty that nature has to offer as much as he enjoys studying the intricate ways buildings can be made.
Or, at least, he used to enjoy it.
That was before he decided to take on as many classes as he could in a single semester when he started college. All his time is spent on studying and making sure he got all his assignments done on time.
Somewhere along the way, he even managed to secure an internship that took up even more of his time and attention.
What little free time he earned would be spent on making sure his friends knew that he was still a functioning member of society. Even then, Jamil would spend the entire time thinking about both the assignments heâs already completed and the ones he left for later.
Ace would say that heâs burned out and needs to step foot outside of the college grounds more often.
Now heâs really taken that advice to heart, because how much farther away from college could he get than Paris, France?
âClear your head and eat a carrot, Jamil,â you interrupt the manâs thoughts by waving a baby carrot in front of his face.
âVeggies,â Jamil groans before a look of utter disgust overtakes his features.
âWhat?â you ask in the most innocent tone you could muster up and bring the carrot closer to Jamilâs face.
âPlease, Iâll literally eat anything else,â Jamil sticks his tongue out in a mock gagging motion as he leans further away from your hand.
âYou mean youâll eat anything thatâs not fruits or vegetables, right? Thatâs bad, you know,â you click your tongue in disapproval before taking a small bite of the baby carrot. âMaybe you should use your last wish to make all of it taste like pasta.â
âCan you do that?â
âI could but I wonât.â
âWhy not?!â
âBecause I will not be the person responsible for you getting tired of eating pasta. Youâll hate me forever and I donât want that.â
âWell, Iâll hate you anyways if thereâs no pasta in that basket,â Jamil says jokingly, his teasing causing you to throw the baby carrot towards his chest in retaliation. âOkay, Iâm sorry, Iâm sorry!â
You narrow your eyes at the man before you stick a hand inside the picnic basket and pull out a plastic container filled with chicken alfredo. Jamil lets out a loud cheer at the sight and smell of the food, his abrupt holler earning him a few glances from nearby visitors.
âYou get so excited about food, Jamil. I remember you used to wish for sushi and ramen all the time as a child,â you giggle, watching with sparkling eyes as Jamil takes the container from your hands and hurriedly opens it.
âWell, the purpose of life is to eat and enjoy as much food as you can, you know?â
âOh, is it now?â
âIt sure as heck is the purpose of mine,â Jamil nods firmly.
You hum in response and curl up into a loose ball with your arms hugging your legs and chin resting on top of your knees. Your eyes flutter shut just as a gentle breeze begins to blow.
The sun is setting behind Jamilâs hunched over figure, the warm sunlight illuminating your figure and making you appear nearly ethereal in Jamilâs eyes.
Youâre so beautiful.
Jamil averts his eyes just as quickly as the thought enters his mind; and as he shoves forkfuls of pasta into his mouth, he tries hard to ignore the warm feeling igniting inside his chest.
â„
âThis is a dream, isnât it?â
âWhat?â you ask, turning your head to look at Jamil who is laying towards the opposite direction of you but with his head resting right by yours.
âI keep thinking that this entire trip â and you â are all just part of a really long dream,â Jamil sighs before he also turns his head towards you.
âWould you like me to pinch you? Isnât that what people do when they think theyâre dreaming?â
Jamil laughs at your questions, his warm breath fanning across your face and his eyes curving into rainbows. He knows that youâre genuinely asking, but he still finds you too innocent and adorable for your own good.
âNo, I think Iâd like to stay inside this dream. But thank you for the offer.â
âYouâre welcome.â
Comfortable silence blankets over the two of you as you resume your previous activities of stargazing. At least, an attempt is made because there aren't as many stars in the Paris night sky as youâd like there to be.
Regardless of that, Jamil tries to savor every moment of relaxation heâs been awarded since youâve come into his life.
He canât remember the last time heâs been able to take a step back to just breathe like this.
His normal life has no time for hobbies â there isnât any time to spare to learn how to ice skate, roller skate, snowboard, or any other fun activities his friends like to do.
This is the first time heâs been able to travel out of the country, for vacation no less, and he isnât even stressed out about the schoolwork heâs probably missing out on right now.
It feels like a dream: being able to lay on the grass of the Luxembourg Gardens with no worries and with you by his side.
âI wish that this dream would last forever,â Jamil whispers, his voice barely audible but youâre close enough that you can still hear him. âCan you make that happen?â
âYouâll have to be more specific, Jamil.â
âItâs just that⊠since you came along, I feel like I can finally breathe again. This is the most relaxed and carefree Iâve felt in a very long time. I didnât even realize how stressed out I was before, andâand I donât want to go back. â
You had an inkling that Jamil may have gotten attached to you, may have gotten used to having your constant presence by his side. Thatâs why he feels so comfortable around you now â at least, enough to make jokes and tease you when he could.
It never occurred to you that he may want to keep you by his side when youâre not able to do so. Not until now.
âI wishâŠâ
You hold your breath as you wait for Jamil to continue his sentence. You know that once he makes his third and final wish, youâll immediately and completely disappear from his life.
Perhaps, it is for the better that heâll have no recollection of you besides as a star in the sky.
âI wish I could continue to feel this way. I wish, among all the stress and madness, Iâll also have the time to be free and enjoy life,â Jamil laughs at himself, finding himself silly for saying the words out loud. He turns to you with a soft smile on his face, âcan you make that happen? Itâs a pretty tall order.â
You nod slowly, refusing to look at the man as you mumble, âas you wish.â
With those words, your body begins to emit a gentle white glow.
At first, Jamil thinks itâs a reaction of you granting his wish. But as your body becomes more and more transparent, the panic settles more and more inside his heart.
âY/n?â Jamil calls out, his voice shaky as he reaches out to cup your cheek. His hand passes through your disappearing body, causing him to panic even more and the volume of his voice rising as he calls out for you again. âY/n!â
A final burst of bright white light makes Jamil shut his eyes tightly and shield them with his hands. Just as quickly as the light came, he finds himself surrounded by darkness and quiet once again.
When Jamil finally opens his eyes, he finds himself lying down in the backseat of Aceâs car. He groans, carefully getting up without moving Liliaâs sleeping figure too much.
He rests his friendâs head on his shoulder after he sits up and looks out the car window, âwhere are we?â
âOh, youâre up?â Ace replies as he glances up at the rear-view mirror to look at Jamilâs dark silhouette.
âYeah, I had the strangest dream: I was in Paris.â
âYou must have been hanging out with some mimes because you were laughing a lot in your sleep.â
âWas I?â Jamil raises an eyebrow skeptically. âI canât even remember what the dream was about anymore. All I remember is standing on top of the Eiffel Tower.â
âWell, donât go back to sleep because weâre about half an hour away from the dorm now.â
âSure,â Jamil adjusts his position so he can prop his elbow and chin up on an arm rest.
He watches as they drive past a handful of traffic lights and countless street lights, a strange feeling of being out of place poking at him.
But he pushes the feeling away for the remainder of the drive back to the dorms. He continues to push it away when he sinks into his dorm bed in exhaustion 30 minutes later and dreams of seeing Paris from the top of the Eiffel Tower.
The next morning, Jamil wakes up to about a dozen emails that all include some sort of revision to the class syllabi.
âWhat in the world?â Jamil asks, his voice groggy from sleep and his eyes blinking against the bright light of his phone screen.
Once his eyes have adjusted, Jamil scrolls through the emails before logging into every student portal available to him. He double, triple, and quadruple-checks every platform to make sure his professors werenât simply playing a trick on him.
âGood morning, Jamil!â a familiar voice gleefully calls out.
Light pours into the room as the door is opened by none other than a smiling Ace. His cheerful demeanor further confirms that Jamil wasnât simply imagining the emails.
âDid you hear the good news yet?â Ace ignores the protests of Jamilâs roommate as he prances into the room and plops down on the edge of his friendâs bed. He doesnât wait for Jamil to answer before he continues talking, ânow we have all this free time outside of getting our major projects done. What are we gonna do with ourselves?â
Despite still being half-asleep, Jamil canât deny that heâs also filled with delight at the unexpected news. His mind is already going through all the things heâs been holding off on doing â but he canât seem to wave off a major sense of dĂ©jĂ vu as he does so.
âOh, wait. How about we finally teach you how to roller skate?â Ace pats Jamilâs shoulder to catch his attention.
âNo offense, Ace, but youâre way too energetic in the morning,â Jamil groans and pulls his blanket up to his chin. He squints at Aceâs unwavering grin for a few silent seconds before he finally sighs and rolls his eyes. âOkay, Iâm in.â
âThatâs the spirit! Iâll let the guys know,â Ace silently cheers, saving Jamilâs roommate from the unwelcomed noise before he saunters out just as quickly as he came in.
On a normal day, even if Jamil said that he was in, he still wouldnât have enough free time to actually learn anything besides the basics â if that.
So itâs a nice change of pace when, less than an hour later, he meets his friends besides the same stretch of pavement as where you granted him his first wish.
He doesnât remember those events in detail, only as fleeting events of a strange dream, and dismisses his sense of dĂ©jĂ vu as having been at this spot many times before.
âYou still remember the basics, right?â his friend Kalim asks as he holds his arms out towards Jamil.
Jamil gratefully grabs onto the long limbs for support as he slowly gets up, his legs wobbling while he tries to balance himself on the roller skates.
âHave you been practicing without us?â Lilia asks with his gaze fixed on Jamilâs legs.
Itâs a harmless question thatâs only asked because Jamilâs not very big on balance. No, usually he and Kalim would have to keep a close eye on their friend to make sure his legs arenât floundering like fish on dry land.
But today, Jamil seems stable on his own, and they step back and watch in surprise as Jamil glides freely without them.
âOh, Aceâs not going to believe this,â Lilia laughs before dragging Jamilâs backpack to his side and rummaging through the pockets for his phone.
Lilia unlocks the phone with every intent to take a video of Jamil acing the Basics of Roller Skating 101. But a recent picture displayed on the lower left hand corner of the Camera app catches his attention.
âJamil, do you have a partner? Theyâre cute,â Lilia comments after heâs clicked on the display and enlarges the photograph. âI mean, thanks a lot for not telling us though.â
âWhat? Where? Who?â Kalim quickly appears behind Lilia to peer over the shorter manâs shoulder.
âI have no idea what youâre talking about. When do I have the time for a partner?â Jamil furrows his eyebrows in confusion as he makes his way over to his huddled up friends.
Kalim and Lilia exchange looks of disbelief before Lilia holds the phone out so Jamil could look at whatâs displayed on the screen.
His breath hitches when he sees a picture of you.
Theyâre the same photographs that you didnât know heâd taken of you. Theyâre proof that you were real â and you existed in this world briefly although Jamil has no recollection of who you are.
And if youâd known those pictures existed, theyâd have been erased from Jamilâs memory just like everything else had been.
âI⊠I have no idea who this is,â Jamil says unconvincingly as he takes his phone away from Lilia.
He canât bring himself to tear his eyes away from the still of your face. The bright smile youâve always graced him with is permanently captured within a photograph of a J. Doe.
Jamil canât remember meeting someone with your face. He certainly doesnât remember your name or why he would have your picture on his phone.
But the longer he stares at the pictures, the farther the warmth igniting in his chest spreads throughout his body.
A single, short thought enters his mind.
Thank you.
And although he doesnât know why he thought that, he has the sneaking suspicion it has something to do with the person in the photographs.
Pairing: Floyd x GN!Reader Genre: Fluff A/N: This is for @seajellyx for the Secret Santa Project held by @twstedsecretsanta. Happy Holidays, I hope you enjoy this small fluffy-fluff gift!
âY/n.â
At the call of your name, the large gymnasium is filled with the sounds of gasps and mummering. You stare up at the podium with your face permanently set into a look of utter shock, because thereâs no way that your name was just called.
Right?
The last thing you remember before spacing out was that the Christmas Royalties were about to be announced.
Itâs apparently a tradition here at NRC: a celebration thatâs a combination of what is a prom back on Earth and Valentineâs Day, where the popularly voted Christmas Royalties will have the chance to confess to their crush after being crowned â or challenge their rivals to a fight, for the less romantically inclined.
You always thought it was a ridiculous tradition. Especially when the chances of rejection and embarrassing yourself is ever present.
Youâd given a thought before as to who you would confess to â though youâd hope youâd never have to. There is always a chance considering you are pretty well-known amongst the student body, courtesy of your friendsâ overblot incidences and your magicless status.
And, as if the Sevens are playing a cruel joke on you, the student who had been called up to the podium first had been none other than your very own crush, Floyd Leech.
Youâd met Floyd after your string of bad luck had you paired up with him as an Alchemy lab partner for the year.
At first, you thought he would be a difficult person to work with. The idea formed itself out of your preconceived notion that he is the louder and more uncontrollable of the Leech twins, thus he would never get any actual schoolwork done.
You had only witnessed him spending his free time messing with other students â your friends included â outside of class, after all.
But you were pleasantly surprised when Floyd took the initiative to reach out to you first with an offer to help, especially when the homework load got heavier as the year went by. His assistance, of course, was exchanged for a couple tight squeezes â and heavily dependent on his unpredictable mood.
Sometimes, Floyd could also be a bit flirty. Heâd given you cheeky winks every now and then, or you would catch him staring at you in the middle of class with an unfamiliar glint in his heterochromic orbs.
Yet you thought nothing of it.
It was predictable of you to end up developing a crush on the man. It was a reality that your friends encouraged you to confess with the hidden hope that Floydâs squeezes will only be reserved for you from then on.
But youâd also threaten that youâd transfer over to RSA if Floyd ever found out the truth.
But now? Flyodâs answer to âwho would you like to call out to the stage?â was your name.
It was then that you began to wonder if all those times heâd been so cheeky in the middle of class was because he actually like-likes you?
âIs y/n here?â Riddle inquires into the mic again.
âThatâs you. Haul ass, pal,â your friend Ace whispers as he elbows your side to bring you back to reality.
âUgh⊠right,â you groan as you slowly stand up and make your way towards the stage.
Your body jerks in surprise when the overhead spotlight nearly blinds you, the bright light following your path exactly until youâre finally standing right beside Floyd.
âWell, this is quite the surprise,â you finally comment, arms crossed and an eyebrow raised at the taller man.
In typical Floyd fashion, the man reaches out and envelopes you in his arms. The squeeze he gives your body is much more gentle than normal. You manage to steal a glance at the man and return his wide smile with an amused one of your own.
âShrimpyyyy,â Floyd coos before clearing his throat and speaking more clearly right by your ear, âsorry for doing this in such a public setting, but you wouldnât pick up on any of the hints Iâve been giving you.â
âThere isnât much of a difference between the way you flirt and the way you treat your friends,â you chuckle, bending backwards slightly to properly look at Floydâs face. From this close, you can see just how red his ears have gotten â and just how handsome he looks dressed so formally.
âYou look marvelous, by the way. Not that you arenât always,â Floyd compliments you as if heâd read your mind and wanted to beat you to the punch.
The cheesy words cause your cheeks to start burning up and earns more than an earful of awâs from your briefly forgotten audience.
âThank you, so do youâ ugh,â you let out a short grunt when Floyd pulls you into another tight hug.
If anyone wanted to laugh at how silly you were making yourselves look, they didnât. But if you werenât busy trying not to suffocate in his arms, youâd have noticed how Floyd had thrown your audience a threatening look before they could even inhale.
âThanks, Shrimpy,â Floyd finally takes a step back and squeezes your cheeks between his hands, tilting your head back so youâd meet his eyes. âHow about a dance? Iâm kind of tired of these people staring at us.â
Your lips curve up into a grateful smile as you nod, âsure.â
âIâm guessing you already know why youâre standing up here with me, but I do like you, Shrimpy. As more than a friend. Iâd love to take you out on a date sometime soon.â
Itâs as if those words unlocked a cage filled to the brim with butterflies. They flutter around in your stomach, leaving behind beautiful hues of reds, oranges, and yellows; warm colors that remind you of the beacon of sunshine that is Floyd Leech. You find it ironic, considering heâs from the sea.
You canât hold back the grin that breaks into your face as you nod your head yes.
âWell, Iâm glad you said something first because I like you too. Idiot,â you stubbornly admit with a playful roll of your eyes.
âThatâs so cute! Congratulations!â Cater, whoâd been standing and watching silently on the sidelines, suddenly yells.
With his lead, the rest of the student body begins to clap and the large gymnasium is filled with the sounds of cheers. Floyd tugs on your hand gently, and you allow him to guide you down the stage and straight to the dance floor. Large clusters of students come along, with most of them throwing confetti over your heads.
Youâve never seen them so lively outside of a good Spelldrive Tournament.
It takes a few minutes for the high energy to settle down, but finally everyone begins to break off into their respective pairs or small groups of friends.
Floyd wraps his arms around your waist, taking the opportunity provided by the slow melody playing to pull you close to him.
âHi, Shrimpy,â Floyd beams, any signs and feelings of shyness already washed away.
âHey,â you giggle as you wrap your arms around his neck and begin to sway together. âYou sure know how to make a scene, huh?â
âIâm sorry, but you didnât give me much of a choice. I thought I was being pretty obvious about it,â Floyd huffs, his lower lip jutting out into a pout.
âWell, Iâm sorry too. For not noticing sooner,â you offer the man an apologetic smile.
Floyd hums for a moment before the mischievous glint is back in his eyes, âyou can make it up to me somehow.â
âDidnât I already agree to a date, sir?â
âBut thatâs different!â Floyd practically whines, and youâre surprised heâs not stomping his feet to match his tone.
You find him adorable, albeit a bit childish.
âI think I could get used to you being so cute,â you speak your thoughts aloud without meaning to. One of your hands moves to cover your mouth as you meet Floydâs widened eyes. âIâI mean⊠what do you want?â
âHow aboutâŠâ Floyd pauses before his eyes travel up above your heads. You follow his gaze up to find multiple mistletoes dangling from the ceiling, âbut only if youâre comfortable with it.â
Wordlessly, you place your arm back around Floydâs neck and gently pull him closer to you. Your faces are mere centimeters apart, just a breath away from your lips touching.
âYou know itâs bad luck to not kiss under a mistletoe, right? We shouldnât risk it.â
âNo, we shouldnât,â Floyd mutters before he makes the first move to close the distance between you two.
Your eyes flutter shut right as your lips meet in a chaste and brief kiss. You couldnât even hear the sound of your friends cheering from the top of their lungs over how hard your heart was beating.
âFloyd, donât forget about us forever!â one of the Octavinelle residents in the crowd yells dramatically once the two of you finally pull apart.
âI guess thatâs my cue to leave. Iâm sorry,â Floyd rolls his eyes at his friendâs antics, but doesnât let go of your hands despite his apology.
âIâll see you tomorrow anyways, donât look so sad to go!â
âYouâre right, but Iâll still kick their ass for interrupting our moment.â
You laugh and nod slowly, âI can get behind that.â
âThatâs my Shrimpy,â Floyd grins before planting a quick kiss onto your cheek. He finally lets go of your hands and takes a few steps backwards towards his waiting friends, âmaybe Iâll come find you again for another dance?â
âIâd love that. Iâll be waiting.â
Roller skating at Skate City. That was your boyfriendâs bright idea when you told him that youâd let him choose where to go for your next date night.
Itâs not that you had a problem with how relatively lowkey the activity is. No, itâs more so that the last time you tried doing something like this, both you two and your friends ended the night with mouthfuls of ice.
But still, you couldnât deny all the fun that was had, so the night was fondly known as The Christmas Ice Skating Disaster amongst your friends.
All this to say that you can only imagine this date night ending with more than a couple of bruises on your shins.
âCome on, y/n!â Trey calls out, one hand stretched out towards you while the other is holding onto the rink barrier. He notices the skeptical look on your face as you stumble towards him and rolls his eyes, âI promise that youâre going to be okay.â
âHold on, Iâm coming,â you huff, your voice barely audible above the loud old-school pop music playing.
Your eyes are fixed on the carpet below you as you focus on trying not to slip on the glow-in-the dark material. You feel a hand grab onto the bend of your elbow and look up in confusion to find Trey standing beside you.
âYou were taking too long. Iâll help you,â Trey explains with a teasing tone in his voice.
He sticks his tongue out before moving to stand behind you and pushing you towards the skating rink. You had half the mind to scold him for endangering you, but the words die in your throat when you realize that you were moving without a single stumble.
Well, thatâs a pleasant surprise.
âCome on, baby,â Trey repeats, mimicking his earlier actions after heâs stepped inside the rink.
âShould I be concerned that youâre acting really confident for someone who sucks at skating?â you ask half-jokingly but place your hand in your boyfriendâs outstretched one anyways.
âThat was ice skating. This is roller skating,â Trey grins as he watches you stumble ungracefully. âWhich â no offense, babe â you definitely suck at more than me.â
âUh⊠I definitely take offense to thâ ah!â you let out a yelp as your feet suddenly slip back, causing your upper body to lurch forward.
You squeeze your eyes shut, bracing yourself for the fall that never came. Instead, you fell straight into Treyâs waiting arms and your hands instinctively clutch onto his sweaterâs sleeve. You open one eye to peek at your boyfriend, who has a relatively proud look about him.
âSo⊠are you planning to stay glued to my side the whole day?â Trey asks with another cheeky grin, âor should I let you flounder around the skating rink on your own?â
Now it was your turn to roll your eyes, âokay, just because you havenât fallen over yet doesnât mean youâre the better skaterâ okay, wait! Iâm sorry!â
Your grip on Treyâs sleeve tightens when he makes a move to pull his arms back. You both know that he would never actually let go of you, but your body reacted out of pure survival instincts. In this case, you wanted to save yourself from an embarrassing public face plant.
âGlued to my side it is!â Trey chuckles as he loosely wraps his arms around your waist from behind. âDonât worry, baby. I got you.â
âY/n?â
The seemingly empty classroom is briefly illuminated followed by the sharp, loud crack of thunder. The shockwaves cause the floor beneath Jamilâs feet to shudder, and he hears the faint sound of a whimper coming from the farthest corner of the room.
âY/n,â Jamil repeats before making his way to the small space beside a long row of lockers at the back of the classroom.
There, he found you curled into yourself with your hands pressed firmly against your ears and your eyes tightly shut.
He was only gone for a second to retrieve the cleaning supplies from the janitorâs closet. But heâd underestimated how bad the thunderstorm had been, because a particular boom of thunder caused the lights in the nearly vacant school to shut off without warning.
Itâs also just his luck that you have a fear of both the dark and thunderstorms. Heâs not sure why heâd suddenly felt guilty for leaving you by yourself, but his feet didnât hesitate to turn on their heels and run back to the classroom where you awaited.
He stands there, waiting patiently for a few minutes to see if youâd calm down on your own.
It becomes quite apparent that the answer is no.
âIâm coming down,â Jamil sighs before sliding his back down the wall until heâs seated in a similar position as you.
You still havenât moved an inch, but he can tell that your body is a lot less tense than before. But how can he comfort you?
A sudden thought pops into his head: a scene from a romance anime that Kalim had forced him to watch with him this summer. Would it work?
He decides to give it a shot.
Jamil shrugs his school blazer off and drapes it over your heads. The heavy material turns everything in your line of vision black, and you finally work up the courage to lift your head properly.
You donât realize how close your faces are until you feel Jamilâs warm breath fanning across your cheeks.
âWâwhat are you doing?â you manage to squeak out, trying to scoot away despite your back being pressed against the lockers already.
âIâm distracting you,â Jamil answers as if it should have been the most obvious thing. âIs it working?â
âUm⊠kind of?â you canât say that the close proximity isnât making you feel like a cage of butterflies have been released in your stomach.
A few moments of silence pass before another boom of thunder strikes, causing the goosebumps on your arms to rise and you instinctively reach out to grasp Jamilâs arms. Youâre surprised that he doesnât move away immediately.
âI want to try something,â Jamil declares.
âRight now?â you ask in disbelief. âWhat is it?â
You feel his arms shifting in your grasp before his cold hands are cupping your cheeks, and you hold your breath as you wait for his next move.
Without any hesitation, Jamil leans forward and presses his soft lips against yours.
To say that youâre surprised is an understatement, but you respond to his touch anyways. Your lips move against one another, hesitantly at first, before Jamil makes the first move to deepen it.
You donât realize just how fast your heart is racing until you finally break apart.
âUmâŠâ you gasp, your fingertips running across your lips. âWhat was that?â
In that moment, Jamilâs glad that the darkness provided by his blazer is hiding how deep red his ears have turned. He clears his throat before simply answering, âa distraction.â
Pairing: Epel x GN!Reader Genre: Fluff
In this world, soulmates do exist.
No one knows when they will meet theirs or if they ever will, but chances of the latter is very unlikely.
See, the universe has a funny way of bringing two destined souls together; in this case, soulmates are brought together through music.
As a result, it isnât strange for one, or two, or even a dozen people to suddenly start singing in the middle of the street. The more fortunate members of society are able to contain this urge, and youâre fortunately one of them.
But balance is a must.
So, while most soulmates will start singing the same song no matter where or how far apart they are, you have to deal with a song playing on repeat in your head for an undisclosed amount of time. Itâs similar to how people say they have a catchy song stuck in their head, but you hear your soulmateâs voice singing to you instead.
Luck is truly on your side though, because you think that your soulmate has one of the loveliest voices that youâve ever heard.
Or do you only think that because itâs your soulmate?
You wonder what they must be like. Definitely an interesting person based only on their music taste â which is completely random. They could be singing a tune that probably should belong in an opera and suddenly change to a song about baking a cake the next.
You never knew what to expect from them, least of all silence.
But thatâs exactly what you got today.
If this wasnât something out of the ordinary, you wouldnât have been so worried. But you couldnât help but think of all the things that could be wrong.
Itâs for this reason that youâve dragged your friends out to the nearest tea shop: to worry incessantly about someone you havenât even met yet.
âNo, Iâm telling you that they have never not sung, Ace,â you groan while rubbing your eyes with the palms of your hands. âWhat if they tripped on their way to work and cracked multiple teeth, or something?â
Ace looks up at you with utter unamusement on his face as he takes another sip of his bubble tea, âthatâs pretty dramatic, y/n. Maybe theyâre just busy.â
âI mean, isnât it nice to have some peace and quiet? Theyâll probably go back to singing by tonight,â Jack offers before you could say anything else. âIt could be worse.â
âHowâs that?â you sigh before occupying yourself by taking small sips of your matcha latte.
âOur friend from college has never heard his soulmateâs voice â well, not since he was little.â
âAre you serious?â you raise an eyebrow, feeling a bit skeptical about this information.
But you werenât one to talk; youâd always opted to wait until the late hours of the night to sing. A small part of you reasoned that you only did so to not disturb your soulmate throughout the day. But the bigger part of you knows that youâre just afraid to embarrass yourself.
âYeah, you can ask him yourself,â Jack nods before nudging his chin towards the space behind you.
âWhat?â
You turn around to see a young man at the cash register paying for his drink. You can only make out the top half of his face due to his face mask, but you can already tell that heâs attractive â with wavy lavender locks that perfectly frames his face and double-lidded eyes that curve slightly at the ends, as if he has a natural wing.
Youâre not sure why you canât take your eyes off of him. Youâve seen plenty of attractive men in your life, yetâŠ
Jack clears his throat at the same time Ace pokes at your forearm, forcing you to divert your attention back to the two.
âWhat?â you ask again, your eyes shifting between your friends who keep exchanging knowing looks with one-another. âWhy do you look like that?â
The pair donât answer you and instead wave over the handsome stranger thatâs caught your attention. He immediately makes his way over to your table and places his hands on the chair right next to yours.
âMay I sit here?â he asks, his eyes curving into crescent moons as he smiles â though itâs not visible to anyone.
You look up and accidentally make eye contact with him; and that alone is enough to make a comforting warmth spread from your heart to the rest of your body.
Both of your eyes widen in surprise, though you donât realize that the stranger is experiencing the same exact warm comfort as you.
But why?
Jack and Ace exchange another set of knowing looks before Ace pats the table loud enough to snap you both out of your trances.
âOh, um⊠yâyeah, go ahead,â you manage to stammer out, your hands nervously tucking loose strands of hair behind your ears as you turn to sit upright again.
What is wrong with you all of the sudden?
âThank you,â the man clears his throat and moves to situate himself onto the empty seat before extending a hand out towards you, âIâm Epel, by the way.â
âOâoh,â you hesitantly reach out to wrap your fingers around Epelâs hand in a handshake, your skin immediately tingles upon contact. âItâs nice to meet you. Iâm y/n.â
ââY/nâ? Thatâs very pretty,â Epel says as his eyes curve into crescent moons once more.
âThâthank you,â you bow your head in hopes that the shadows will conceal the blush creeping up your cheeks.
âEpel, you have a pretty name too,â Ace comments in a playful tone as he pats the said manâs cheeks.
You shoot a glare at your friend, mentally cursing him for teasing you at such a time, but he only smiles innocently at you in response.
âCall me âprettyâ again and youâll never see the daylight again,â Epel chuckles. âHow are yâall?â
âWeâre good. Whatâs with the mask?â Jack gestures towards Epelâs face, and he assumes that he must mean the face mask.
âI caught a cold â just my luck,â Epel sighs.
âIs Vil going to cut you some slack today then?â
Epel shakes his head, ânah⊠I just wonât be able to sing as much as I usually do. Which is why Iâm saving my voice as much as I can.â
âWhat if theyâre sick?!â you suddenly exclaim, prompting Epel to turn towards you with his eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
âExcuse me?â
âTheyâre talking about their soulmate again,â Ace whines before planting his face onto Jackâs shoulder.
âOh? Why, whatâs up? Did you finally meet them?â
âNoâŠâ you shake your head before giving your friends an apologetic look, âtheyâve just stopped singing â and they always sing. So maybe theyâre sick!â
âSounds like me,â Epel says jokingly with a grin, but his laugh is cut short by the alarmed look on your face. âIâIâm kidding. I just meant that I sing all the time too forâwell, really because Housewarden Vil asks me to.â
Watching the awkward exchange prompts Ace to hunch over and start coughing, but you can hear his hidden âsmoothâ in between the sharp sounds. You shoot your friend a glare before placing a hand on top of Epelâs â and itâs just a gesture of reassurance.
At least thatâs what you try convincing yourself of.
âSo,â you start, hoping to change the conversationâs topic for everyoneâs sake, âis there any particular reason why youâre being made to focus on your singing skills?â
âOh!â you can see the glimmers of happiness in Epelâs eyes as he begins to talk animatedly about his hobby. âItâs âcause of my familyâs apple farm. Which, hear me out, âcause I know youâre prolly thinkinâ âhow is that even relatedâ? ButâŠâ
Then Epel begins to explain how his family business experienced a boom in business after this yearâs SDC, and he saw this as motivation to work on strengthening his charms. After all, Harveston isnât a well-known part of Twisted Wonderland; and if he works hard enough, he could help not only his family, but the other elders in the village as well.
âThen Vil had this great idea that we should start an NRC radio show. I like to call it the Epel Farm but Vil was not a fan of that. And, wellâ itâs more of a âdaily podcastâ than it is a radio show. I do a lot of different things depending on my mood; sometimes Iâll give advice to my listeners or just play music â and sing, of course. I surprisingly like it a lot.â
âYou seem to be very passionate about your family and apples. Itâs wonderful that youâve got such a strong source of motivation,â you can only offer a sheepish smile as your head is still spinning from the overload of information Epel just spilled onto you. âI havenât gotten the chance to tune in yet, but your radio show sounds great.â
And the two of you continue your conversation just like that, completely forgetting that you have other friends sitting right across the table. Too enamored with one-another to even notice their amused stares.
Truth be told, Ace and Jack had a sneaking suspicion that they knew who your soulmate was for a while now. Epelâs too.
At first, it seemed like a coincidence. Youâd whine about the fact that you couldnât focus well when your soulmate keeps singing a song about washing the dishes. Then that same night, they would hear Epel singing a similar song in a pre-recording of Epel Farm.
When asked, Epel had told them that he rarely hears his soulmateâs voice unless he stayed up late enough. Heâd wake up with swollen eyes the morning after and was surely scolded by Vil, but he always thought that it was worth it.
They connected the distant grey dots when you told them you try not to sing until nightfall in fear of disturbing your soulmateâs day.
The coincidences continued to pile on from there, and Ace finally convinced Epel to meet you for confirmation.
Except he left out the part where you were going to be here today.
But Epel is smart and he catches on very quickly. It also helps that your friends were not very subtle with the way they were gawking at you two as you conversed.
You must be someone special. He could tell from the moment you made eye contact earlier.
Whereas your parents never told you the feeling of meeting your soulmate â not to mention your friends havenât experienced such things either â Epel was more blessed.
Heâs been excited to meet you since the moment his parents recounted the day that they met. The feeling of comfort and warmth, like basking under the hot summer sun or wrapping yourself up in your favorite blanket on a snowy day.
The same exact feeling he had when he first saw you.
But heâs not one to jump to conclusions. He needed solid evidence, and thereâs only one way he knows how to collect it. Subtly.
âDo you want to come back to Pomefiore with me then? Iâm about to head down, and itâll give you a chance to finally listen in,â Epel offers, holding his breath as he waits for your answer.
You hum in thought, glancing over at your friends for their confirmation before nodding, âsure, I would love to.â
âPerfect, Iâll go grab my drink and we can go.â
Underneath the face mask, Epel is absolutely beaming in delight but he tries his best not to jump for joy right away. Instead, he counts to ten in his head to calm his nerves before he gets up from his seat, âohâ Ace and Jack, you guys can come too. Just donât break anything this time.â
âWhâ it was totally Jackâs fault for scaring me!â Ace tries to defend himself but the shorter man is already out of earshot. He sighs, lips jutting out into a pout as he crosses his arms and slumps back down his seat.
âYour soulmate sucks, y/n,â Ace grumbles due to his hurt pride, the weight of his words not registering until he notices the way you stare at him with raised eyebrows.
âWhoâs my soulmate?â you snort and lean forward to gently smack Aceâs hand. âDonât joke around like that!â
âSâsorry,â Ace scratches the back of his head, the toothy smile he offers you filled with awkwardness.
Were you always this naive, or pretending to ignore the fact that he just slipped up?
His eyes shift up to look at something behind you and he breathes a sigh of relief before jumping out of his seat, âEpel! Great! Letâs get going before youâre late!â
âUhâ Okay, okay,â Epel holds his hands up in defeat as he allows Ace to usher him out of the tea shop.
You and Jack follow not too far behind, with you clinging onto your friendâs arm for warmth and protection against the chilly autumn breeze.
Thankfully â and surprisingly â the walk back to the Pomefiore dorm was only about one mile, tops. It was still a half an hour walk, but you canât complain in the presence of good company. Plus, it probably would be a few daysâ walk if you didnât have a mirror to transport you to anywhere you want to go.
âHere we are,â Epel announces, his voice quieter and a softer tone than it had been at the tea shop. He stops walking right outside a door to a room marked with a medium-sized apple sign. âPlease come in.â
Epel hurries to hold the door open for you, and you canât hold back the giggle that bubbles up your throat as you walk past him.
How adorable, you think to yourself.
You absolutely adored the way that he so enthusiastically talked about his radio show earlier, and you can see now that he truly treats this place like his second home.
True to its name, the interior of the room is decorated with shades of green and various apple drawings randomly placed on the wall. Just like an apple orchard.
The environment is bright and warm, and if Epel was a room this is what you imagine he would look like. Is that strange?
âOkay, follow me. You guys can sit right outside of the broadcasting booth, and weâll be able to see each other,â Epel gestures for your trio to follow him deeper into the room.
His face mask is pulled down now, exposing the lower half of his face, and you canât help but to steal glances at him every few seconds. You had the gut feeling that he would be attractive, but nothing could prepare you for how pretty the man truly was.
Lost in thought â well, more like Epelâs face â you donât notice that your friends have stopped walking and you face plant directly into Jackâs shoulder, causing you to stumble back ungracefully.
âAre you okay?â he looks back in concern.
âUh, yes,â you affirm, a hand rubbing at your sore forehead.
âBe careful,â Epel comments before reaching out and taking a hold of your hand. He gently pries it off your forehead and leans forward to study the blanket of red on your skin. âIt doesnât look bad, but if it still hurts and you want to ice it, please let me know.â
âOkay, tâthank you,â you whisper.
From the close proximity, you have the opportunity to see his features more clearly â from his piercing light blue orbs to his adorable plump cheeks down to his rosy lips.
Youâre not sure why you couldnât stop staring at him, or why the same warmth as before is spreading through your body again. But the feeling is very much welcomed.
Unbeknownst to you, Epel feels the same way.
The sound of someone clearing their throat pops the momentary bubble you were encased in, causing the two of you to take a step away from one-another.
âEpel. We need to go check the sounds now,â a very familiar man stands off to the side, his face seeming as if heâd showed up someplace he wasnât supposed to.
âThank you, Housewarden Vil. Iâll be right there.â
âAlright. And Jack. Ace. Y/n. Itâs a pleasure to see you all again,â Vil greets you all politely before he turns on his heels and hurries back inside what you presume is the broadcasting booth.
âHave a seat. You should be able to hear the broadcast through the speaker here,â Epel gestures towards a seemingly misplaced large speaker just outside of the broadcasting booth. When he turns back to you, he flashes a bright smile that has your heart suddenly skipping a beat. âI hope youâll like it.â
With that, you both part ways. Epel walks to the broadcast booth while you walk over to where your friends have retreated minutes earlier.
âI feel strange,â you confess after situating yourself in a seat facing the glass door to the booth.
Jack and Ace exchange looks for what seems like the hundredth time that day before Jack says, âa good strange? Or did you already catch Epelâs cold?â
âI donât know, but⊠I feel so warm and fuzzy. So I guess thatâs good? Iââ your sentence is cut off by a familiar voice in your head, and you let out a short sound of relief.
Your friends give you looks of confusion mixed with worry, mostly because your mood suddenly changed and they canât tell if youâve suddenly lost your mind. But you shake your head and whisper, âmy soulmate is singing again!â
Jack eyes flicker briefly towards Epel, who seems to be speaking into a mic, before coming back to you, âwhatâs he singing?â
âActually, itâs not a made-up song for chores this time,â you hum along to the lyrics in your head, your brain working to figure out what song is playing before it clicks. âAh! Itâs âPiece of My Worldâ.â
Jack nods as he hops off his seat and makes his way to the speaker Epel pointed out earlier. His fingers fumble with the controls before you suddenly hear the same song blasting through them as the one in your head.
âHow?â you ask, your eyebrows furrowed in confusion as you stare at the speaker. âThatâs such a weird coincidence.â
Surely this was just a coincidence, right? But the more you listen, the farther away the voice in your head gets, the voice coming from the speaker replacing it instead.
The same voice that youâve heard every day for as long as you can remember.
Your soulmateâs voice.
You stand up, hesitantly inching closer to the speaker, where Jack is giving you an apologetic look. How long had he known?
A million thoughts were running through your mind per second, faster than your heart is racing at the moment.
But when youâre a few feet away from the glass door, it suddenly makes sense to you. The way you felt so comfortable around him, how easily attracted you were to him, and why your friends had insisted you meet him all those times before.
Somehow they always knew, but now you know too.
Feeling eyes on him, Epel looks towards the door and makes eye contact with you. His mouth falls open to a small âoâ when he sees the look of utter astonishment on your face.
Did you figure it out? Was he right?
Your lips moved, though he couldnât hear what you were saying through the soundproof walls. That didnât matter, however, because suddenly a voice greets his mind. One that he hasnât heard sing to him when the sun is still up in years.
âYouâre my soulmate.â

Everyday life as a librarian is as mundane as you can get within the walls of Night Raven College. With the exceptions of the occasional ruckus caused by groups of college students â mainly Floyd â or Crowley coming to offer yet another deal that you canât seem to refuse, the library serves as a quiet haven for those who canât find it elsewhere; you included.
At first you werenât sure what you wanted to do here, or what you could do here. Youâd spent the last couple of months just cramming as much History of Magic knowledge as you could into your brain, simply trying to make sense of the new world that you were in, without giving much thought to how you could fit in if you werenât going home anytime soon. So, it comes to no surprise that once that was done and over with, you found yourself with way too much free time on your hands.
Itâs when youâre in the midst of a particularly rowdy lunch, that your friend Epel mentions a new job opening at the library on-campus. Heâd insisted that you apply, explaining that the library was in desperate need of someone that has competent knowledge of literature and you were perfect for the job.
You were hesitant at first, mostly because you were shy and quiet â especially in public settings â and thatâs why you gave up trying to befriend more people here. But Epel reasoned it wouldnât be too bad, or busy, at all because he would be helping you out. Plus, Vil told him that the practice would help him get used to speaking âproperlyâ. So, you applied for the position.
Now youâve found yourself working at the library for a little over half a year already, and Epel was right: working at the library wasnât all that difficult. While he offers to deal with inquiring students all day â just to save you the anxiety of having to do so yourself â youâre left to acquire, classify, and catalog materials away from their prying eyes.
Todayâs arrangement is no different.
Youâve just finished cataloging this weekâs new batch of books, and after carefully stacking them onto your handy-dandy book cart, you head over to the elevator to the second floor. The doors slide apart with a quiet ding! to announce your arrival before you push the book cart to the first set of bookshelves labeled âFiction: 001 - 200.09â, all the while nodding your head and mumbling polite greetings to the people you pass by.
Your hands busy themselves by putting the books into their respective spots, first alphabetically then by call numbers. Youâre halfway through your stacks when someone gently taps on your shoulder, causing you to jump in surprise before you turn around to see Epel standing there.
âUh⊠yes?â you ask, clearing your throat as you straighten up and fiddle with the hem of your sweater.
âCould you work the front today? Iâm exhausted,â Epel runs a hand through his hair as he sighs in exasperation.
You squint your eyes at him and try to figure out if heâs simply trying to trick you into socializing, but the way his eyebrows are furrowed and his jaw is clenched tells you otherwise. Rather reluctantly, you nod in agreement to his request, âI guess so. Are you alright?â
âYeah, I just didnât expect working at a library to be the same experience as working retail. Like, excuse me, we sent you the notification that your books were overdue. Donât yell at me because you didnât pay attention and now you have to pay the fees, sir,â Epel slams his hand down the top of a book as he emphasizes the last word, the loud sound making you jump.
Epel begins to shove books into the empty slots of the bookshelf, not truly caring if they belong there or not. You canât help but wince as you watch him do so, the feeling youâre experiencing is like watching someone try to drink soup broth with a fork: itâs just not right.
âOkay, Epel, Iâm heading to the front then.â
At this point, the man doesnât even hear you anymore; too busy in his own thoughts cursing at the disrespect heâs been shown and taking out his frustrations on the bundle of papers in his hands. You turn on your heels before you can change your mind and tell Epel to get the heck away from your precious books and make your way back down to the checkout counter on the first floor.
Itâs quiet for a Friday afternoon. Usually youâd expect a small crowd of students to trudge in, their backpacks heavy with textbooks and eye bags as dark as a cloudy sky. Sometimes you miss the days when you used to be like that too; even though it was difficult you made a lot of fond memories that made it all bearable.
You situate yourself on the worn-out leather office chair Epel usually occupies, the backrest creaking a bit too loudly for your liking when you lean against it.
Maybe you can strike up a deal with Crowley to get a new one later. No, scratch that idea â you never know what that man wants in return.
The computer in front of you is just starting to boot up when the entrance of the library swings open, causing your gaze to shift out of curiosity.
Your eyes land on the figure of an attractive young man dressed in the classic NRC school uniform, the purple ribbon secured to his left arm showcasing that heâs a part of the Octavinelle dorm. You canât shake the feeling that you know this man from somewhere, but you also canât quite put your finger on where.
Feeling eyes on him, the man turns his head towards you and gives you a polite smile when you make eye contact. You can feel your cheeks heating up in embarrassment from being caught staring, and you avert your eyes almost immediately â opting to stare at the brightly lit computer screen instead.
âExcuse me,â the man calls out, and you think to yourself that his soft-spoken voice matches his angelic appearance very well.
âYes?â you answer after a few moments of silence, reluctantly glancing up.
As the man approaches the checkout counter, you canât help but to stare at him with slightly widened eyes and a thin-lipped smile. It must look like youâre in pain to him â in this case, your pain is just downright embarrassment â but you were always one to have your emotions and thoughts written all over your face, so you couldnât hide it even if youâd wanted to.
âIs Epel out today?â the man asks as he rests his hands on the counter and his eyes scan the space behind you.
ââEpelâ?â you echo your friendâs name, your expression quickly changing into one of confusion. âNo, he's here⊠why?â
âOh, no reason. Heâs just usually the one to be sitting here so I was just wondering,â the man chuckles while shaking his head, a finger pressed to the bridge of his glasses to keep them from moving.
âOkayâŠâ your voice trails off as you werenât sure what to say next.
Is it usual for Epel to make small talk with everyone? You have to commend him for being able to do that every day with who knows how many people when you can barely think of what to say to this one person. He must have sensed how uncomfortable you feel, because the man takes a step backwards towards the staircase with his thumb pointing over his shoulder.
âI'm guessing heâs upstairs, so Iâll go there,â he announces before giving you another smile, this one more unsettling than the last. âIâll see you later. Have a great evening.â
You wave goodbye to the man and give him a small, less awkward smile back, watching as he turns and speed walks up the stairs as if someone is chasing him. The smile doesnât leave your face even after heâs disappeared from your view.
âOf course he would see me later. He has to pass by the checkout counter to leave the library anyways,â you think as you focus your attention back to the computer screen.
On display is a website with the daily list of upcoming school events a.k.a. your number one resource of finding which areas of the school you should avoid like the plague. Your eyes spot a familiar name: Mostro Lounge, and you canât help but roll your eyes.
âIs there ever a time this place isnât up to no good?â you wonder aloud to yourself as you click on the direct link provided to learn more about the newest event.
If youâre being completely honest, thereâs no real reason you feel so negatively towards the Octavinelle restaurant. Youâd merely heard rumors from Ace and Deuce when they practically bet their livelihoods to the housewarden for good exam scores, and you decided to avoid the place on the off chance that you get suckered into another bad deal.
You stare at the screen for a few seconds once the browser finally refreshes before rubbing your eyes with your knuckles.
âNo way,â you lean closer to the screen while eyeing it in disbelief.
According to the webpage, the Mostro Lounge is holding a promotion for the next week and a percentage of the profits will be donated to the library. You scroll further down to see if there was any other information provided, stopping when a particular headshot catches your eye.
âNo way!â you repeat louder this time, your mouth hanging open from the shock that hits you.
ââNo wayâ what? Are you okay?â a familiar voice asks, causing your head to snap up.
You can only shake your head wordlessly as Epel approaches the checkout counter, empty book cart in hand. He pauses, an eyebrow raised as he questions you impatiently, âwell, are you going to tell me whatâs wrong?â
âTâ this⊠Epel, youââ you manage to stammer out incoherent words as you look back and forth between the screen and your friend, a finger pointed accusingly at him. âHave you made a deal with the Octavinelle housewarden?â
âWho, Azul?â Epelâs face is full of confusion when you mention the manâs name. âWhy do you ask?â
You shoot up from your seat and turn the computer screen around, and Epel leans forward to look at whatever it is you keep aggressively tapping at. Itâs only then that it crosses his mind that he hadnât told you about the deal Crowley and Azul had made.
âOh, right. So, uh⊠about that,â Epel starts off slowly, a hand rubbing the back of his neck while he tries to keep the guilt from showing on his face. Just like you, Epel has a hard time masking the emotion on his face. âAzul has apparently been complaining that thereâs a lack of useful books here during one of the Housewarden Meetings; so the Headmage agreed to allow him to choose our next couple batches as long as he pitches in.â
âWhat in the Sevens is a âuseful bookâ in his standards?â your eyebrows furrow in frustration, side-eyeing the endless shelves of books you spend every day organizing.
âBooks that will help him fulfill his end of his contracts, of course. Probably for potions like the one that he makes for Vilâs skincare,â Epel speaks matter-of-factly before he turns back to the book cart, humming a show tune while strolling away to the storage room behind you.
Leave it to Epel to be so nonchalant about anything and everything.
You close your eyes and take a deep breath to calm your heart that you didnât realize was racing from adrenaline, your body slowly sinking back down onto the office chair with a short creak.
Meanwhile Azul is on the second floor, leaning against the wooden railing as he observes you curiously. Of course Azul is aware of the reputation heâs built around himself: a man capable of granting any wish, though the price is steep. One should be wary when agreeing to enter a contract with him. With such a reputation, he would have expected you to know who he was as soon as he walked in, but apparently you never knew what he looked like in the first place.
Secretly, he likes that fact: thereâs someone who exists who doesnât merely seek him out for their own needs. Not that you were seeking him out in the first place, which also stings.
Azul, please make up your mind.
Azul smiles to himself as he pushes his body away from the railing, turning to eye the multiple bookshelves around him as an idea comes to mind. Since it didnât seem that you like to converse with strangers, heâll have to find another way to befriend you.
And so, half an hour later, he finds himself standing at the checkout counter, a satisfied smile on his face as he glances down at the stack of books in his arms.
âAre you ready to check out?â you ask, a polite tone to your voice, as you look up from the computer.
Your smile falters for just a second when you see Azul standing in front of you, the sight of the Octavinelle symbol filling you with a sense of dread.Â
Be nice, y/n, itâs not like itâs his fault youâre going to be working overtime for the next foreseeable future.
You clear your throat before shifting the chair around, your hands stretched out to take the books from Azul. He merely shakes his head and carefully sets the pile down on the counter before leaning side to side to make sure none of the books have shifted.
âHave a good day, y/n. Iâll see you tomorrow,â he lightly taps the top of the book pile with his fingertips, drawing your attention away from him and to the books before he steps out of the library.
You furrow your eyebrows, your lips curved into a frown as you ponder whether or not youâve told him your name yet. You decide that you must have, itâs just that your memoryâs getting worse as you get older. A sigh escapes your lips at the thought, your still outstretched hands pulling the books Azul left behind towards you so you could put them back where they belong.
âHeâs definitely not checking these back in; he wasnât even carrying any books when he came in earlier. But then why would he bring them here if he wasnât planning on borrowing them?â you think and eye the books curiously, your chin sandwiched between your fingers.
Hello, Sunshine by [redacted] Itâs a Beautiful Day by [redacted] Introduction by [redacted] Humans by [redacted] Peach by [redacted] How to Make Friends for Dummies by [redacted]
You furrow your eyebrows while thinking to yourself that Azul has â well, not strange â but definitely an interestingly wide taste in book genres. But the thought quickly goes away when you give the books a second glance, now wondering if the stranger was trying to give you a secret message through⊠book spines?
âHey, Epel!â you call out, not moving your gaze away from the books as if they might disappear if you look away.
âWhat?!â Epelâs muffled voice answers from the storage room.
âCould you come here for a sec?â
You hear the click of a door opening behind you followed by the shuffling of feet as Epel makes his way over to you. You gather the books into your arms before turning in the chair to face Epel.
âLook, look. Whatâs this?â you nudge the pile towards Epel.
âUh⊠books?â Epel crosses his arms before looking down at the items in your arms with an unimpressed look. âIs this some kind of trick question?â
You roll your eyes at his sassy tone and nudge the books even closer, âno, Epel. Someone left these here. Look at the titles.â
âHuh,â Epel huffs, eyes carefully scanning the titles as he's told to. âWhat about them?â
âIâm not sure. Is this supposed to be a message or what?â you canât help the impatient tone that creeps into your voice as you drop the books onto your lap.
Epel gently bites his thumb as he ponders it for a bit. Some of the students here did have some unconventional ways of communicating sometimes. That was apparent from the way Rook asked Epel for help with an Alchemy project last month: by sliding a heart-shaped sticky note under his dorm room door at 4 A.M..
âYeah, it could be,â Epel finally answers you with a shrug. âWhy donât you try giving them a response? The worst-case scenario is you got it wrong.â
And with that suggestion, Epel leaves you alone again; but not before giving you a, what you assume is supposed to be reassuring, pat on the shoulder.
âMaybe I should,â you think as you glance down at the stacks of books once more, a shy smile creeping onto your face.
â„
The next morning, you enter the library with a feeling of anticipation that you havenât felt in a long time. You spent a good chunk of last night thinking of how to properly respond to Azulâs message: should you use book spines like he did? Or perhaps try a blackout poem?
You decided on the latter but didnât have the heart to color inside a book or rip out a page. As a compromise, you wrote out a page of Azulâs first book on a separate piece of paper instead. And that paper is currently tucked into the back pocket of your pants, awaiting the right moment for you to pass it along to its intended receiver.
âGood morning, Epel,â you sing-song, almost skipping around the counter to give the man a hug.
âMornâ ah!â Epel yelps when he suddenly finds himself engulfed in your arms and he raises a hand hesitantly to pat your back, ânice to see you too? Someoneâs happy this morning.â
âI am, Iâm sorry,â you giggle, unwrapping your arms around the man before taking a step back, âcan you do me a favor?â
âDepends on what,â Epel hums, his eyes narrowing because he should have known you werenât being so nice for no reason. He watches as you shove your hands into your back pocket and pull out a piece of light pink paper folded into an origami peach fruit. His eyes cross when you hold it up a bit too close to his face. âWhat am I supposed to do with this?â
âCould you please give this to the stranger from last night?â you ask quietly while giving your friend your best puppy dog eyes.
He blinks, his gaze shifting between your face and the paper peach in front of him. He purses his lips before reluctantly nodding and snatching the paper out of your hands, âOkay⊠but I donât even know who Iâm looking for, so why canât you do it yourself?â
âYou know why,â your lips jut out into a pout while Epel shakes his head into his hands. âI canât be there to look him in the eyes if I was actually wrong!â
âYouâre actually hopeless, y/n. Maybe you should be meeting with Vil to work on your confidence.â
âIâll hard pass on that one.â
âSo, whatâs he look like?â
âFair-skinned. Beauty mark on the left side of his chin. Short, wavy grey hair. Oh, and Iâm ninety-nine percent sure heâs in Octavinelle.â
Epel peeks up at you from between his fingers, glad that his hands are hiding the shocked look on his face. Surely thereâs no way that youâre actually describing Azul Ashengrotto without realizing it.
Speaking of the devil, the entrance to the library swings open and the aforementioned man comes striding in with a certain loud eel following closely behind.
Your body automatically straightens as you shoot daggers at the tall man, âFloyd, please try not to cause a disturbance today â and please leave Riddle alone.â
âOh? Iâm afraid you have the wrong brother,â the man chuckles, fist coming up to his lips as he shoots you a polite smile. âSee the way this part of my hair curves to look like a âJâ? Thatâs the easiest way to make out that Iâm Jade.â
âOh, Sevens. Iâm so sorry,â your face begins to heat up in embarrassment once you take a closer look at the man. âI see you two so often, I canât believe Iâm still making that mistake.â
âNo worries at all, itâs a common mistake. Housewarden Riddle will be safe to study in peace today.â
âWonderful, then our heads are safe for today,â you place your hand on your chest and breathe a sigh of relief.
You then glance at the familiar man standing next to Jade with his hands nervously clenched together in front of him. You flash him a warm smile and a quick âgood morningâ before excusing yourself to the storage room.
No one within a five-feet radius could miss the way you waved aggressively at Epel as you walked away.
âRight,â Epel drawls once he hears the sound of a door click. He holds out the peach origami unceremoniously, his face screaming boredom when no one moves. âI believe this is for you.â
âMy, my, you have great craftsmanship, Epel,â Jade smiles again, leaning in to study the pink paper in the otherâs hand.
âI didnât make it, y/n did. And itâs not for you,â Epel rolls his eyes, shifting his hands towards Azulâs direction.
Azulâs expression is a mixture of surprise and embarrassment. First, surprise from you understanding the message he had conveyed from the books last night. He admittedly had never done something like that before, and didnât have enough time to go scavenger hunting for the right books.
Second, embarrassment from having been discovered in front of one of the twins. Thereâs no way this isnât going to reach Floydâs ears and heâll have to mentally prepare himself for a royal tease storm later.
Azul clears his throat and ignores the way Jadeâs eyes follow him curiously when he takes a few steps forward to grab the paper from Epel, âthank you for this.â
âI must have missed a couple chapters here,â Jade comments in amusement. âWould you care to share?â
âAbsolutely not, Jade.â
â„
Itâs not until Azul is in the safety from prying eyes of the V.I.P. room that Azul finally decides to read what youâve given him.
He picks up the paper peach delicately like it is his motherâs fine china, turning it over and over between his fingers to study your origami work.
Itâs a shame I have to ruin this, Azul thinks to himself as he gingerly unfolds your note. He stares at the long thick lines of black drawn on the page, mentally reading the words that were purposely made legible.
[illegible] Itâs nice to meet you, [illegible] You have [illegible] a beautiful smile [illegible] I like [illegible] your [illegible] books.
A few more lines of black.
Iâm sorry [illegible] Itâs a bit awkward, but [illegible] See you soon.
Azul rests his cheek on the palm of his hand, an amused smile appearing on his face as he re-reads your note.
âTheyâre certainly creative,â he mutters to himself as he follows the creases of the paper to re-fold your origami peach, ideas already popping into his mind as a feeling of anticipation similar to yours bubbles up inside of him.
Thus, begins your unique form of communication with the housewarden.
On the night the promotion is to begin at Mostro Lounge, Azul drops yet another pile of books for you at the checkout counter. His lips are curved up to a rare timid smile as Epel stares at him from his seat, âI assume these arenât for yourself.â
âUm⊠no,â Azul rubs the back of his neck, suddenly feeling a bit awkward.
âIâll make sure y/n gets this,â Epel canât help but laugh at the expression on Azulâs face as he slides the books closer to himself. âWhy do you look like that? Iâm not judging you.â
âI know you arenât!â Azul quickly retorts, his voice rising slightly in defense. âItâs just⊠I feel a little weird. Weâve never spoken more than a handful of words to each other, but now I'm getting excited to talk to them like thisâŠâ
Epel waves his hand in the air dismissively, âtrust me: even Iâm surprised at how things are unfolding between the two of you.â
âIâm surprised you havenât told them who I am yet.â
âIâm not doing it for you. Iâm just glad y/nâs finally opening up and making new friends,â Epel says plainly before sticking his tongue out at the older man. âNo matter how suspicious the new friend could be.â
Before Azul could question him further, Jade appears by his side, whispering into his ear that they will need to return to the lounge soon. Azul reluctantly excuses himself and follows his vice-housewarden back to the Hall of Mirror.
Itâs the busiest that youâve ever seen the library, watching from the safety of the opened door to the storage room as an endless circulation of people come in and out the door. In the crowd, you catch a momentary glimpse of Azulâs warm smile just before he left. The mere sight of it causes butterflies to flutter in your stomach and you tiptoe over to the counter where Epel is situated hoping to catch another glimpse of it.
You immediately hear a soft shuffling sound coming from beneath you and it causes you to look down. There lies yet another stack of books, and you give Epel a questioning glance though his eyes remain glued to the scene in front of him. Did he expect you to put these back? Right now?
When you bend down to grab the books, you almost want to facepalm yourself for being such an idiot. Because there laid yet another message from Azul; this one shorter than the last.
The Sun Says Hello by [redacted] Thank You by [redacted] You Are Beautiful by [redacted] Look Below by [redacted]
Look below? you think before following the instructions and literally looking down, but only seeing your feet. Of course, thatâs not it. What aboutâŠ?
You lift the pile of books off the table, a grin appearing on your face when you see a folded piece of paper where the books once were. You glance over to where you last saw Azul and canât help but wonder if this is how the characters in romance novels felt; the nervousness of passing each other a new secret message, the anxiety of wondering if theyâve said the right thing, the excitement of awaiting a response, and the exhilaration of the whole process.
You gently pat your warming cheeks with your hands and snap yourself out of your brief thoughts. With a shake of your head, you take the note and make your way back to the storage room before closing the door behind you.
âYou need to get out more,â you say aloud to yourself, referring to your ridiculous thoughts of comparing your humdrum life to a romance novel.
You click your tongue in disapproval, your hands busy unfolding Azulâs note to read the contents written inside.
Y/n, Iâm sorry if this was too corny. I didnât want to make you uncomfortable by approaching you directly. Thank you for your response, I really wasnât expecting it. You guys have so many books here that itâd take a long time for me to find the ones I need to send another book spine message. I mean, not that thatâs a bad thing! I hope you donât mind a good old fashion letter though. Why donât we share quotes from our favorite books instead? That way I don't have to trouble you and make you put back the books I took. Iâm curious to know what kinds of literature you like to read. Iâll go first. âHe stepped down, trying not to look long at her, as if she were the sun, yet he saw her, like the sun, even without looking.â Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy - Azul Ashengrotto
You feel like your eyes are going to pop out of their sockets from how suddenly they grew wide, âWhaâ you mean, like, the Octavinelle Housewarden Azul?!â
â„
A few weeks pass by with more than a handful of letters being exchanged between you and Azul; though, truthfully, you were tempted to stop your correspondence once you were aware of Azulâs identity.
âEh, why? Did he say something wrong?â Epel had inquired when you came to him for advice once again.
âWell, no, but he did put Ace and Deuce into a predicament, soâŠâ
âThey kind of had that coming for opting to cheat instead of just studying like we did.â
âYou sound just like Jack.â
âIâll take that as a compliment. What else?â
âUh, because of the dang promotion heâs doing, weâre going to be a lot busier than usual.â
âY/n. We work in a library â located on-campus, might I add. And itâs almost finals season,â Epel looks about ready to throw a book at you so maybe thatâll knock some sense into you.
âOkay⊠but what if this is just a ploy to get me to sign my livelihood away in some contract?â
âAzulâs a straightforward business man. He definitely wouldnât be wasting his time like this just for a contract.â
You paused and thought through Epelâs words for a moment. It did make sense: why would Azul be spending his precious free time to entertain you in this way if he couldâve simply approached you with a salesmanâs pitch?
You felt guilty for immediately assuming that his intentions were bad. Afterall, your only experience with the man outside of this long exchange was from word of mouth. Not to mention that his restaurant promotion was beneficial to both the library and the students.
âOkay, you may have a good point. Several good points, in fact,â you sigh in defeat.
In the beginning, both you and Azul had to badger Epel to pass along secret letters to the other person; and the requests were almost always followed with a look of utter displeasure.
There was more than one occasion where Epel was tempted to just lock the two of you inside the storage room until you would eventually talk.
Luckily for all three of you, he never had to resort to that.
There eventually came a point when you felt comfortable enough to approach Azul first, and he would always welcome you with a heart-stopping smile; one that would leave your cheeks feeling warm and catch your words in your throat. If the man knew the effect that he had on you, he was certainly gracious enough not to show it.
In his free time, Azul likes to stroll around the library with you. While itâs usually in a comfortable silence, heâll sometimes ask you to elaborate on things from your last correspondences.
Other times, heâll ask you to proofread his contracts or ask for your ideas on how he can improve sales at Monstro Lounge â things he usually either did himself or asked for Jadeâs assistance. You always tell him that youâre not qualified enough to give him such advice, but he always insists anyway.
Just like that, you learn more about each other and your tastes in literature than you would have with anyone else.
Today Azul arrives at the library just as youâre finishing up your afternoon tasks. You rush over to the checkout counter as soon as you see him come in, the warm, welcoming smile on your face immediately lifting his spirits.
âHi, Azul! Welcome back,â you call out to the man, waving at him with your free hand while the other is clutching a clipboard full of inventory paperwork.
âHi, y/n,â Azulâs lips quirk up into his signature sweet smile that doesnât betray the quick beating of his heart. âHow was your day?â
âTiring⊠but I kind of like seeing the new faces around here so I donât mind that trade-off,â you answer, referring to the influx of students scrambling to prepare for finals at every available corner of the building.
âIâm glad that youâre starting to warm up to strangers,â Azul chuckles, his hand reaching out to gently ruffle your hair. You stare up at Azul with widened eyes, and he stares back with his hand slightly trembling; clearly you both are surprised by the affectionate gesture.
Azul suddenly clears his throat, breaking you both out of your momentary trance as he pulls his hand away. Even if he didnât plan on showing his affection as such, he couldnât deny that heâs started to develop romantic feelings for you.
That's why he came today, so he could finally ask you something that heâd been delaying for the past week or so.
âSo, anyways,â Azul starts, and you can hear the subtle tone of nervousness in his voice.
You watch with furrowed eyebrows as Azul slips a strap of his backpack off his shoulders and unzips the largest pocket. After a few seconds of digging around, Azul finally flourishes a handful of books that he holds out towards you with the spines purposefully facing away.
âWhatâre these for?â you ask curiously, though you donât wait for an answer before taking the books from Azul and clutching them to your chest. âAre we going back to book spine messages now?â
âYeah, I hope you donât mind,â Azul nods in confirmation before shrugging his backpack strap back on. He presses his lips into a thin line, eyes fixed to the floor beside you and cheeks a rosy tint as he asks, âum⊠Iâ Iâll get a reply before I leave today⊠right?â
âOf course, thatâs been our routine for a while now,â you giggle as you find it quite adorable how shy Azul suddenly got, even if you donât know the reason why yet.
âIâll be waiting then,â Azul flashes an uncharacteristic half-smile before heading up to his usual writing spot on the second floor.
Although Azul seems to be acting strange today, you think that maybe heâs had a difficult time convincing Floyd to study today and has a headache. You roll your eyes at the thought while shaking your head and mumbling, âIâll squeeze that eel twice as hard the next time I see him.â
With a loud sigh, you make your way around the checkout counter and plop down onto Epelâs vacant office chair with a familiar loud creak. You wince, bowing your head apologetically at the few people who turned towards the source of the sudden noise that disturbed their peace.
Once their attention is averted back to whatever they were doing before they were so rudely interrupted, you turn your attention back to the books Azul handed you earlier. The last time he gave you something like this was when he asked to start exchanging letters instead; so, youâre curious as to why he suddenly decided to change his method again.
You place the books on the counter in front of you, your clipboard and paperwork long forgotten underneath the stack.
Friday Nights by [redacted] Dinner Recipes by [redacted] Together by [redacted] If Youâd Like To by [redacted]
You stare at the books with a dumbfounded expression, not wanting to jump into conclusions about its meaning; but what else could it mean besides Azul Ashengrotto asking you out to dinner this Friday night?
It suddenly makes sense why he was acting kind of shy earlier.
The thought makes you feel warm inside, and you have to hide the wide smile appearing on your face behind your hands.
You donât want to wait until Azul leaves tonight to give him an answer, and you make up your mind almost right away to tell him your answer verbally â mostly because your brain is not comprehending whatâs going on well enough to function properly and think of a creative response to his invitation.
You shake your head while patting your cheeks rather roughly, getting up from your seat carefully to not make any more unwanted noise.
Your feet rush you up the stairs to the second floor before you can talk yourself into chickening out, before you can change your mind, beforeâ
The sight of Azul makes you stop in your tracks, your heart hammering wildly against your chest. Was it from seeing the person that you adore, or was it from the sudden rush of adrenaline? You honestly canât tell anymore.
Azul is hunched over a short pile of papers â the lack of paper balls around him makes you think that heâs at least got a good start to his studying session â his cheek is resting against his fist as the other hand is busy writing away. His eyebrows are furrowed in utter concentration, so much so that he doesnât even realize that his glasses are slowly sliding down the bridge of his nose.
You quietly make your way to the chair across the table from the man and settle yourself down onto the wooden material with your eyes still fixed on him. Youâre not sure if itâs just the harsh lighting of the library or you werenât paying attention earlier, but you can see faint dark circles under his eyes.
âArenât you sleeping enough?â you mumble, though Azul still doesnât hear you. Your hand reaches out without you meaning to, your fingertips gently brushing aside the locks of hair that were starting to cover Azulâs eyes.
This finally gathers his attention and the man jolts in surprise, his eyes wide as his head shoots up to see you sitting across from him.
You canât help but giggle at how adorable Azul looks, pulling your hand back to cover your mouth as you do so, âIâm so sorry. I didn't think you could get so focused in, like, five minutes.â
âOhâ Iâ yeah, sorry,â the man snaps back to his senses before his hands are spread out to cover whatever heâs written â not that he needed to. You wouldnât have peeked anyways, and you both know that well enough: youâd never look unless he asked you to. âDid you need something?â
âHuh?â you question before cursing yourself mentally, because just a fleeting look at Azul could make your mind go completely blank. You quickly shake your head before Azul could elaborate, âno, no! I just⊠I'm saying yes. To your, uh⊠invitation.â
âMy inviâ oh,â Azulâs mouth forms a small âoâ as he realizes what youâre referring to; and just like the first time you gave him a response, heâs caught by surprise.
To be honest, he was mentally preparing himself for rejection. Lack of self-confidence aside, he wasnât sure if you felt the same way he did; whereas he ended his letters with quite corny quotes from romance novels, you missed his hints and always ended yours with quotes from novels in any other genre.
âIs that⊠okay?â you ask hesitantly when Azul doesnât say anything else. You can feel your entire body starting to feel warm from embarrassment, the thought that you must have misinterpreted his words hitting you like a brick.
âYâyeah, of course!â Azul answers a bit too quickly, and the more time passes by, the wider his smile gets and the redder his ears turn. âIâm the one who asked, why are you asking if itâs okay to say âyesâ?â
âI thought I misinterpreted,â you confess after releasing the breath you were anxiously holding in.
Azul chuckles and places his hands on yours before giving them a reassuring squeeze, âIâm sorry, I was caught off guard. But thank you for agreeing to go out with me.â
âI wouldnât miss it for the world,â your cheeks begin to burn as the clichĂ© phrase leaves your lips. âbut um⊠where are we going? Are you actually going to cook dinner?â
You donât doubt that the man probably has skills in a kitchen. He owns a restaurant after all, but youâve never visited before so youâre not sure who actually does all the cooking. Azul merely runs his thumb and index finger across his lips in a zipping motion.
âItâs a surprise!â
â„
The next few days follow in a blur of excitement and expectancy. Youâve tried to ask Azul multiple times for even just a hint of what your plans would be for Friday night, but he stays true to his word of keeping everything a surprise.
So, come Friday, you decide to dress comfortably with a pair of straight leg jeans and an oversized, lilac-toned sweater. Itâs simplistic, but when Azul comes to pick you up at the library that night, it seems that the two of you had unintentionally matched â though his sweater is slightly darker in color.
When you first see each other, you point at one-another as if you were the infamous Spider-man meme. Small bursts of laughter leave both of your lips as you decide to make the first move and reach out for his hand.
Without his gloves on, you can feel how clammy Azulâs hand is from nervousness. You donât mind it very much though, his hand is still very soft and warm and comforting to you.Â
âAre you ready?â Azul asks, daring to give your hand the tiniest squeeze.
âUh, as ready as someone can be when they donât know where theyâre going.â
Azul chuckles as he nods, âokay, fair enough. Itâs nowhere bad, I promise. Iâm not a serial killer.â
âThat sounds exactly like what a serial killer would say in a mystery book, but Iâll trust you.â
âYou read way too many crime books,â Azul comments, thinking back to the quotes youâve written to him in your letters.
âIâd like to say Iâve broadened my horizons just a little bit. Though I never wouldâve taken you for such a romantic,â you tease back, smiling sheepishly when the man chokes on his own spit at your words.
âIâ uh, Iâm most definitely not,â Azul says defensively between coughs, his cheeks reddening though you arenât sure if itâs because he choked or because heâs actually feeling shy. âItâs just research for my, uh⊠contract work.â
âSure, sure. Whatever you say,â you chuckle, rubbing the manâs back with your free hand until he ceases to cough.
The rest of the walk is blanketed in a comfortable silence, your gaze fixed on the fairy lights decorating the exterior of the school buildings. Once the lights have all but disappeared, your initial thought is that the dark hallways really donât help Azulâs claim of not being a serial killer. If itâs true, then at least your last sight would be of a handsome man.
A few more minutes pass before you finally set foot inside the familiar Hall of Mirrors, Azul slowly guiding you to the mirror that connects to the Octavinelle dorm.
âYouâve never been to the Mostro Lounge before, have you?â Azul asks when he sees you staring apprehensively at the mirror.
âNo, I havenât.â
âItâs my pleasure to accompany you on your first visit then,â Azul smiles with a hand on his chest. âHopefully, youâll enjoy your time tonight so you can come visit again in the future.â
âIâm sure Iâll enjoy it since Iâm with you, but will the tweels be there tonight? I can only imagine the amount of teasing weâre going to be enduring soon. Not that I mind!â you quickly add before Azul can take that as a sign to cancel.
âHah, I thought about that too,â Azul mutters, two fingers rubbing circles on his temple as if to fight back an oncoming headache. âButâŠâ
âBut?â you tilt your head curiously, prying when Azul refuses to make eye contact with you.
Azul takes a deep breath, mentally willing himself to say possibly the cheesiest thing heâs ever said in his life, âbut I donât mind suffering just a little bit if youâll be by my side.â
Now itâs your turn to start choking on air. Yeah, he definitely reads way too many romance novels.
â„
When you finally set foot inside the Monstro Lounge, it isnât quite as busy as you had anticipated it to be. There are just a handful of patrons sitting around, mostly chattering amongst themselves and only momentarily stopping when you and Azul pass by.
Itâs peaceful, and you have to wonder why Azul prefers to work in the library as opposed to here. And well, to be fair, itâs only this âslowâ tonight due to Azulâs own doing. Ah, the sacrifices on profits he has to make for love.
You place your hand in Azulâs outstretched one after you enter the lounge, shy smiles on both of your faces as you allow him to guide you towards the kitchen. You donât even notice that Azul hasnât let go of your hand when you bump into Jade and Floyd.
âOh, my, what a surprise to see you here, Azul,â Jade calmly says as he bows his head, âand y/n is here too. What a pleasant surprise. Good evening, y/n.â
âOhhhh? Azul, you didnât tell us you were bringing over a date tonight,â Floyd grins mischievously, only a second away from springing forward to squeeze you if Jade wasnât holding on to the back of his shirt. âAnd itâs the dolphin from the library. Hi, dolphin.â
âHâhello,â you quickly greet the two men, your hand grasping Azulâs tighter in fear of an oncoming squeeze, âI hope weâre not intruding.â
âNot at all. I already told Jade beforehand that we were coming, so weâll have the place to ourselves in a moment,â Azul answers you, his free hand adjusting the bridge of his glasses. âPlease spare me that shocked look, Floyd. You know youâre the last person I would inform of a date.â
âAw, Azul, youâre a meanie! I wouldnât have teased you that much, I swear!â Floyd huffs and pouts.
âI can hardly believe that.â
âNow, now, Floyd. Letâs leave the lovebirds alone,â Jade coos, patting his brother on the back before slowly pushing him towards the direction you had just come in from. âHave a wonderful time, y/n. Azul.â
âYouâll be hearing from me later,â Floyd grumbles, pout still very apparent on his face while he reluctantly follows his brother out the door.
With their departure, the kitchen falls eerily silent, safe for the quiet hum of the commercial freezer in the corner. Azul silently lets go of your hand and dares to place a hand on the small of your back instead as he guides you deeper inside.
Youâre not surprised by how impeccably clean the kitchen seems to be, surely Azul checks in often to ensure that everything is up to his standards and beyond. But what you are surprised by is the sight that greets you when Azul finally opens a door at the very back of the kitchen.
Youâre greeted by the afternoon sunlight streaming through a window that doesnât seem to belong in an underwater dorm. But thereâs no way that you could be hallucinating the sight in front of you.
In the middle of the room is a long, wooden farm table with about four mismatched wooden chairs encompassing it; the wide window sill you saw first is showcasing several small pots that are homes to what you assume to be herbs and vegetables.
Azul notices your awe-filled gaze and retracts his hand, allowing you to roam around the room freely while he heads back to the kitchen to check on tonightâs dinner â courtesy of Jade. The acoustic in the room allows for your voice to be heard loud and clear though youâre technically in separate rooms.
âI didnât know that they have rooms like this in the Coral Sea,â you say aloud, the tone of your voice conveying that your statement is serious.
âWe definitely donât,â you hear distant Azulâs chuckle and you can mentally picture the kind of smile the man has on his face at the moment. âThat room is typically used as storage, but I borrowed a magic projector from Vil a while ago to make it look more home-y for you.â
âIt certainly does look like homeâŠâ you say to yourself as you slowly take in your surroundings more carefully.
Youâre not sure how Azul would know it himself as youâve never talked to him about it before, but the setting before you â brought by a magic projector or not â does remind you of the dining room from back home. Itâs been so long since youâd last seen it that youâd almost forgotten what it looked like.
Itâs a kind gesture that brings tears of joy and nostalgia to your eyes.
âThank you, Azul, this is really thoughtful of you. I donât have anything to give you in return right now, but⊠what is it that you wish for, Azul?â youâve made your way towards the kitchen by now, your shoulder leaning against the doorway as you gaze at the man with a look filled with curiosity.
Azul glances over his shoulders to look at you, his lips curving up into a soft smile as he shrugs, âif I tell you my wish, then it wonât come true.â
You fold your arms and hum in response, âokay, fair enough. I thought you were going to say âworld dominationâ.â
âThatâs such a plain wish, but I bet younger me wouldâve wished for something just like that,â Azul laughs aloud at himself before shaking his head, âI think nowadays my wish is to be more confident in myself and my own abilities.â
You nod in understanding as you recall the brief stories he would share of his childhood. It seems that Azul has gone through so much in a short amount of time, but heâs also changed so much since then.
You walk over to the man and place your hand above his own, the steam from your dinner eventually warming your hand and dampening them as well.
âI think youâre doing a wonderful job right now, and Iâm very proud of you,â you smile fondly at Azul, causing his eyes to widen in surprise and his chest to tighten as if he may burst into tears at any moment now.
âTâthank youâŠâ itâs the first time someone has said anything like that to him before, and heâs not sure how he should respond. Right now, heâs only focused on making sure his face isnât turning as red as Riddleâs.
âOf course! Iâll remind you of that as often as youâd like!â
Just as quickly as his expression changed before, Azulâs face brightens up once more at your response. He turns on his heels, his arms balancing a variety of plates packed with food. You reach out to help alleviate the burden on his arms, but he moves his arms away from your reach before leaning down to get to eye level with you.
âThen I have even more of a reason to be grateful, right? We got to meet each other, and my wishful thinking⊠may not be such after all.â
Your features crease into a look of confusion at the manâs unexpected words, but when you gaze into his dark grey orbs you can see the sincerity in them.
Unknowingly, the space between your faces starts to become smaller and smaller. Azulâs gaze shifts between your eyes, then your lips, then back up again. But before anything can happen, as if the universe is playing a joke on you, a plate in Azulâs arm shifts ever so slightly and causes the two of you to jump apart.
A rather awkward laugh makes its way past your lips and you hurriedly reach out to grab a few plates from Azulâs arms before he can protest. You donât say a single word as you set the plates down onto the farm table, your mind too busy screaming a million incoherent thoughts, and Azul follows suit.
âIâm so sorry,â Azul is the first to break the silence once youâve taken a seat diagonal to each other, on either side of a table corner.
âWhat? Donât be sorry,â you shake your head while simultaneously waving your hands. Your fingers slowly curve into loose fists that you rest atop your lap, the small smile on your face mirroring Azulâs own.
âDo you⊠know why I asked you out tonight?â Azul hesitantly asks, a quiet sigh leaving his lips when you shake your head ânoâ. âWell, itâs just that I realized that weâve spent most of our time together in the libraryâ well, in fact, I have never seen you outside of the library. It finally occurred to me that I might be making you feel like you donât matter outside of that space. Which you do!â
âI donât feel that way thoughâŠâ you try to reassure him, but it seems like your words only enter one ear and exit the other as he continues to speak.
âIâve truly enjoyed exchanging all those letters with you and being able to connect through our shared love for books. But, if you donât mind, Iâd like to start seeing you outside of that too.â
It doesnât take you long to process the situation and, to your utmost surprise, your heart isnât hammering in your chest like you think it should. Instead your entire body feels comfortably warm and you have the overwhelming urge to embrace Azul.
At this point, youâve garnered enough courage to do just that.
You stand up and quickly make your way over to him, your arms immediately wrapping themselves around Azulâs shoulders while your face hides in the crook of his neck. It takes a moment for him to respond, but Azulâs arms eventually find their place around your waist to press your body firmly against his.
âYouâre such an idiot, Azul,â you mutter after what feels like an eternity has passed.
Your words cause the manâs lower lip to jut out into a pout, and he leans back ever so slightly so he can look at your face; you almost whine when the warmth of Azulâs body leaves you.
âWhy am I an idiot?â Azul inquires, a hand moving to tuck loose strands of hair behind your ear.
âBecause⊠if I really felt that way then I never would have kept reciprocating for so long. It doesnât matter if we spent all that time in one place because it never got boring or tiring with you around,â you pause to flash a fond smile at Azul. âAnd even now, Iâm having the time of my life just being here in your presence. Is that too corny to say? Itâs the truth though.â
Azul chuckles in amusement while shaking his head, âitâs not corny. I think.â
Itâs the first time that youâve been so straightforward without getting flustered, and heâs not sure where your sudden courage came from.
Not that heâs complaining about it though.
When you two first met, you could barely hold a conversation with him for more than a minute. While he did feel a pang of disappointment every time, he never took it personally â especially not after seeing you interact with other students in a similar manner.
You caught him off guard when you finally approached him first, weeks after your first correspondences, though your cheeks were permanently warm while you tried your best to converse with him.
He found you adorable, like a newborn seal pup being introduced to the world for the first time.
Azul has always enjoyed your company since the beginning, whereas heâd prefer to be left alone to work in the past. But then he found himself going back to the library time and time again, until it became a regular occurrence.
He admittedly never got a lot of studying done when he was at the library â at least, not at the times when he accompanied you on your daily runs to shelve book returns.
Azulâs still not sure when his feelings developed beyond those of curiosity and friendship.
Perhaps it was when you could finally meet his eyes and hold contact, allowing him to gaze deep into your eyes that always seemed to sparkle with light and joy.
Or perhaps it was when he told you a dad joke so bad that it actually made you burst into a fit of giggles that left you breathless â the mere sight of you smiling gleefully tugging at his heartstrings in the best way.
Regardless of the when, where, why, and howâs, Azul is certain of his feelings for you.
âI wonder if this is how Benedick and Beatrice felt when they finally agreed to marry,â you comment, breaking through Azulâs thoughts.
Azul nearly snorts at your remark, âBâBenedick and Beatrice? You mean the ones from âMuch Ado About Nothingâ?â
âYeah⊠why?â
The man laughs after your confirmation, your cheeks being partially squished between his palms as he brings your faces closer together until the tips of your noses are almost touching, âno offense â I adore that beautiful mind of yours â but I donât think those two exactly exude the idea of âwholesomeâ.â
âBut think of the relief they mustâve felt after they didnât have to pretend they didnât love each other anymore.â
âSo, you love me?â Azul quirks an eyebrow up challengingly.
âWhâ youâre taking that too literally,â you grumble with a fist hitting the manâs chest gently, though the way you avoid his eyes and your cheeks are flushed tells him that he may be somewhere on the right path.
âThen⊠do you like me?â Azul inquires, and you can see the mischievous glint in his eyes when you finally meet them.
âDo we really have to say that out loud after we already did our monologues?â
âI want to hear it from you. Please.â
You swallow the small lump in your throat, though thatâs the only sign of nervousness in your entire body.
You find it fascinating how quickly your bodyâs reactions change whenever Azul is around. Thereâs a sense of nerves and shyness when youâre in the midst of new experiences, but it just as quickly changes to feelings of calmness because the man brings you such a sense of comfort you never expected.
Just like how the lump in your throat dissipates and leaves you to gaze at Azul with complete fondness.
Thereâs not a moment of hesitation before your whispered confession of âI truly like you, Azul Ashengrotto.â hangs in the air.
Just those simple words of affirmation make Azulâs entire face light up, the sight of his bright smile making you feel like you were standing in the middle of a field and soaking in the warm summer sunlight.
âAnd I like you, y/n.â
Your bodies act as if on muscle memory, Azulâs face tilting ever so slightly while your eyes flutter shut. Youâre not sure who closes the distance first. Perhaps it was both of you moving simultaneously, but your lips eventually meet in a fleeting and gentle kiss.
There were no fireworks igniting behind your eyelids like theyâd described in the countless books youâve read, but it still leaves you feeling lightheaded. Like youâre melting into Azulâs arms. Like thereâs only the two of you alone in this vast world.
When you pull apart, the two of you giggle like schoolgirls but the action isnât fueled by feelings of awkwardness or nervousness. You both gaze at each other with eyes full of admiration and budding feelings of love, the feelings that were hidden before from fear of being rejected finally bubbling up to the surface.
Youâve long forgotten about the now-cold plates of food sitting in front of you; opting to spend the rest of the night exchanging even more gentle kisses and whispered sweet nothings.
â„
The dynamics of your relationship with Azul hardly changed after you confirmed your feelings for one-another, and you truly feel grateful that there was no pressure on you to act differently.
Of course, now there were a lot more lingering touches, your fingers almost always intertwined if there was nothing to keep them busy. Youâd even sneak brief kisses behind the cover of bookshelves when you thought no one was looking.
Even if neither of you were a fan of P.D.A., you made an exception for each other.Â
Nothing was made official between the two of you after that fateful night, as Azul opted to wait another half a year before asking you to be his partner.
You didnât mind his decision to take things slow. You both wanted to make sure that your feelings for each other werenât just illusions brought forth by letters on paper â though you knew that wasnât the case anyways.
When he felt that the time was right, Azul asked the question in the best way that he knew how to: through book spines. Though unlike how heâd asked you on your âfirst date,â Azul didnât shy away after dropping the books off.
Heâd waited patiently for you to have some time to spare for him, his chin resting atop his folded arms at the checkout counter as he watched you help patron after patron check out books.
âI have something for you,â Azul could hardly contain his excitement when you finally turned to him and let him know you were free.
âWhat is it?â
You felt a sense of dĂ©jĂ vu watching Azul dig into his backpack and pull out a stack of books. He placed them down on the counter with the book spines facing you, and youâd half-expected him to walk away like before.
But he stayed there; his eyes curved into double rainbows coupled with a sweet smile, and his hands trembling ever so slightly in nervousness.
Will by [redacted] You by [redacted] Bees by [redacted] Mine by [redacted]
You had to hold back the squeal that was threatening to escape your larynx when you finally looked away from Azul long enough to read his message. Your mind already went over the fact that Azul had to substitute the word âbeâ with âbeesâ and you nodded so hard Azul thought your head might fly off.
Now itâs been exactly a year since you two made your relationship official. In the year youâve spent as a couple â and even before then â youâd fallen into a pleasant routine.
During the weekdays, while youâre working at the library, Azul would be studying in his usual spot in the corner of the second story. After some time, heâd suspiciously stopped asking you to proofread his work.
Every Friday night, he would try out new dinner recipes and you would be in charge of baking dessert â and you wonder how his kitchen has managed to stay so spotless after all this time.
Sometimes you would invite Epel, Ace, and Deuce to come over too, and the first time your friends agreed to come, they were appalled by how sweet you and Azul were; but they secretly loved seeing you genuinely happy in this strange new world.
Saturdayâs were reserved for the show-and-tell of Azulâs enormous coin collection, with the latter recalling stories of when he found them on solo adventures in the Coral Sea. When you asked why he had so many, Azul explained that they help with his memory and itâs exciting to learn of the history behind especially old coins. You canât argue with him there.
Sundayâs are for those who may say that your relationship seems too mundane. You both agreed to do something new during this day, may it be something as small as feeding ducks near the pond or as adventure packed as tagging along with Jade on his strolls in the mountains.
Either way, you always ended the day cuddling up next to each other in Azulâs bedroom.
The collections of books in this world are endless, and youâve made it a habit to take turns reading aloud to each other until you both fell asleep late into the night.
But this Sunday, the exact day of your one-year anniversary with Azul, the man had asked if you could stay at home. Your homebody-self answered âyesâ without hesitation.
Itâs already nightfall by the time you find yourselves stuffed with dinner and cake and situated under the wooden pergola illuminated by Vilâs borrowed magic projector. Your comfortable silence is accompanied by the soothing chirping of crickets and a night sky sprinkled with the brightest stars.
âHappy anniversary, angel,â Azul says with a warm smile before bringing your hands up to press tender kisses along your knuckles.
âAngelâ: itâs a hypocorism that Azul has grown fond of calling you by. When he first started to call you as such, you found it amusing because itâs a name that better suits him.
âHappy anniversary, darling,â your smile mirrors Azulâs own, a quiet giggle escaping your lips when his lips tickle your skin.
Itâs a wonder that time has passed so quickly.
It felt like just yesterday you saw Azul entering the library, with not a single clue as to who he was â and now here you are, more than positive that youâre in love with the man sitting in front of you.
âI love youâ: itâs a sentence that has remained unspoken between the two of you. Not because you donât love each other, because even a jellyfish could see that you do, but because neither of you ever felt the need to verbalize those feelings.
Until now.
âAzul,â you call out, waiting until he glances up and hums in response. âI love you.â
A minute of silence follows, then two, then three, and as more time passes on, you can feel a sense of panic growing stronger in the pit of your stomach.
Had you thought wrong? Did you just jump the gun when Azul didnât feel as strongly for you as you did for him?
âI have something for you,â Azulâs soothing voice cuts through your anxious thoughts.
You try to ignore the pang of disappointment that accompanies your panic.
He didnât say it back.
âWhat is it?â you ask, your voice sounding weak.
âClose your eyes.â
You do as youâre told, keeping your eyes closed as Azul lets go of your hands. You can hear him rummaging around for something, and you have to wonder what it could be.
Your eyes only open again when Azul gives you the okay to.
Azul places what appears to be a manuscript atop your lap, and you look at him with a puzzled expression on your face as you pick the bundle of papers up, âwhat is this?â
âI didnât tell you this before because I was too embarrassed, but I decided to try writing a book of my own,â Azul chuckles, one hand rubbing the back of his neck. âIâm getting close to done. I just wanted you to see it first, even though I know you hate spoilers.â
âI absolutely do,â you declare as you roll your eyes in a playful manner.
âI know, I know, butâŠâ Azul bites on his lower lip, his voice trailing off as he contemplates how to word his next sentence. âIâm better at writing out my feelings than I am verbally expressing it, and Iâve included it here. Iâd love for you to read it first before the rest of the world.â
âI think youâre better at expressing your feelings aloud than you think you are, darling.â
You canât deny that you feel honored to have Azul regard you highly enough to have you be the first to read his nearly completed work. Sure, youâve spent hours proofreading essays and the like before, but this felt different.
Azulâs hands are clasped together tightly enough to make his skin appear a few shades lighter, anxiety coursing through his body as he watches you flip to the first page of the manuscript where the dedication page is. Heâs not sure why he feels that way when he knows exactly how you feel about him.
Your eyes and mind slowly take in the words written on the page.
Were you suddenly hallucinating sweet words onto paper? A quick glance up at Azul tells you no.
His written feelings bring tears of happiness to the corners of your eyes, and it takes all your willpower to not throw your arms around the man and kiss him right then and there.
To my muse, my angel, my wonderful y/n, You know what people say about meeting your soulmate? It feels like youâre at home the moment you meet them. I think theyâre right, because while the sight of your beautiful smile makes my heart race, you also make me feel safe and comfortable. Itâs like one look from you lifts the weight of the world off my shoulders, like thereâs absolutely nothing for me to worry about. Without you, I would never have experienced things and feelings that I thought were only possible in books. Itâs with our fond memories in mind that I write this book. Thank you. Thank you for choosing to spend your days with me. Thank you for being a beacon of support during the times I was clouded with self-doubt and during the times I wasnât. I love you. âYours is the light by which my spiritâs born: you are my sun, my moon, and all my stars.â - E.E. Cummings
