NPD + BPD culture is needing to be useful and extraordinary or else no one will need nor want me
.
I feel like there’s a lot of symptoms that neurodivergency advocates will 100% support…unless they come from NPD.
You shut down at all criticism, are absolutely terrified of failure and not being perfect, don’t respond well at all to negative comments? When it’s due to something like RSD, anxiety, etc, you deserve help and support! When it’s due to NPD, you’re a manipulative asshole.
You’re bad at social cues and struggle with relating to other people due to Autism? That’s not your fault at all and you should be accepted! But when you struggle with those things due to NPD, you’re abusive.
Of course, some people are just ableist across the board, but there’s even more people who are 100% accepting of symptoms that come from certain “normalized” disorders, but will show their true colors if the exact same symptoms come from a “scary” disorder.
ppl will be like ‘i support people w mental health issues!!1!!!’ until it’s about a societally demonised disorder. ppl will be “allies” until they’re asked to stop using psychotic as an insult, to stop equating low empathy with being inherently evil, to stop calling anyone they don’t like a sociopathic narcissist. it’s so telling how people will immediately resort to the exact same ableist language the second they’re not talking about a ‘sympathetic’ disorder like depression or anxiety.
if ur respect for people w mental health issues is conditional on what sort of issue they have, it’s not respect at all.
NPD culture is PLEASE ASK ME THINGS!!!!! PLEASE BE GENUINELY INTERESTED ON WHO I AM AND ANALYZE ME AND TELL ME EVERYTHING YOU THINK ABOUT ME, MAKE A LIST IDK BUT PLEASE.
.
npd culture is getting called stupid in an internet argument over something really inane and still getting unreasonably mad over it, like how dare you call me that?? especially when everyone else in the replies was disagreeing with you?? go die genuinely
.
Sending good vibes to all my cluster B pals 💕
reblog to tell your local narcissist that they’re the best ever
I know there's already an NPD flag, but I'll be honest...some of its color symbology and language feel both stigmatizing and yet also too lax. If you'll hear me out, I'll explain my version's changes.
I like that some of the colors on the original are picked off of the narcissus (daffodil), so I reincorporated that and added the green of the leaves for growth and recovery instead.
Something about the black strip being support for people with NPD felt...dark, sad, and generally like it added to this idea that were are a dark mark on the population. Instead, I made the white strip for this as a way to say...I want to wipe the slate clean on how others see us so we can be really supported. Additionally, the black, red, orange gradient kinda looked like raw meat. Just felt too violent. We aren't inherently violent.
Finally, I changed the verbiage of "normalization of symptoms" to "destigmatization of symptoms" as I feel the distinction is a healthier way for us to view our of symptoms.
We are struggling with bad coping mechanisms that DO need to be correct, but are misunderstood and need to be destigmatized.
Lastly, the overall more childlike palette as a whole represents trauma stemming from childhood and how suffering from this PD often feels like being thrown back that childhood pain and never learning safe coping mechanisms.
Thank you for reading!
I also previously made a comic about the comorbidity of personality disorders with autism. Though it only briefly mentions my NPD/NPD traits, I still think it's important to add here:
some of yall forgot, so im gonna remind you:
- Moral Purity is unattainable. This is recognized in philosophy too.
-Moral purity culture today is HEAVILY ableist
- Immoral actions can be justified
- Your personality disorder doesnt make you a "bad person" even if it makes you do "bad" things
- Moral Purists are NOT welcome in real leftist spaces
-Moral Purity is pushed even more in christianity, which should tell you all you need to know.
- You deserve love , even if moral purists label you a "bad person"
- You deserve love. Period. Full Stop.
I wish people who believe in narcissistic abuse and act like people with NPD are so evil were not even human understood that having NPD can absolutely motivate people to do good things.
I have NPD and I work in education. At the school I work at, we have a couple Ukrainian kids who don’t speak English. I have begun learning Ukrainian (or well, trying to, this is my first time trying to learn a language that uses a different alphabet than English so progress is slow), specifically because I want to be the one to make these kiddos feel welcome. I want to be the one teacher who has put in effort to learn their language, rather than just trying to teach them ours. That’s a good thing to do, but if I didn’t have NPD I probably wouldn’t bother to do that and would just use google translate (like all the rest of the teachers).
I, like other narcissists, find that most of my motivation comes from looking for another narc high, and for me, I am much more likely to get a narc high from doing something good and feeling good about myself because I did something good, than I ever would from making someone else feel bad about themself. Why would I spend my time going around hurting other people for no reason when I could put my effort into doing something actually cool and then everyone will think I’m awesome because I actually did something awesome?
I know I’m not the only narcissist like this, but sure, let’s keep spreading the rhetoric that narcissists only exist to hurt people.
